Work Text:

Tony furrowed his eyebrows as he watched Pepper sway yet again from her seat. He knew something was wrong. Maybe she was sick?

He sighed, dropping his head into his hands before standing up abruptly. "Alright, I'm bored. See you next, uh, never? Great."

Pepper huffed. "Tony, you can't just walk out of a meeting with SHIELD because you're bored." It's working.

"Yeah, I can, and I will. Try and stop me." He stepped towards the door, and Pepper stood from her chair abruptly.

"Tony!" It only took two steps before her knees buckled and she tilted to the right.

He was next to her in an instant. "Woah, Pep. Too much to drink?"

She responded with a little pained hum and a slurred "'s not ev'n noon".

"Okay, sick, then. Let's go, hm?" His voice was unusually gentle as he guided her from the room; the only thing keeping him from sweeping her into his arms was the room of board members. He knew she wouldn't want to be embarrassed like that.

The second they stepped out of the room, Tony picked her up. Pepper shuddered as she settled into his arms.

"I'm not sick, Tony." She shivered again, her pallor complexion and clammy skin telling a different story. "'s just a migraine. Happens."

"Uh-huh. How often do you get these?" He stepped into the elevator, instructing FRIDAY to take them to the penthouse. "Because I feel like that's something that I should have known about before it became immediately relevant."

"Ev'ry once in a while. Month or so." Pepper let out a sound that was nearly a whimper.

Tony's breath caught. "Pep. How often do you just work through it?" He could barely believe that he'd been letting this wonderful woman, the love of his life (probably), the best thing that ever happened to him, work through disabling migraines. She was four steps away from passing out!

"Mm. Can't miss work." He laid her on the couch, covering her with a blanket, and kissed her forehead.

"Let me know next time, okay? I own the place. I'll give you a day off if you need it."

And if he sat by her side until she woke, refusing to leave in case she needed anything, that's no one's business but his own.
