Chapter 1: Beginnings

Chapter Text

Morning always dawns early at Kurain. Somehow, being on her own schedule for so long makes the morning even earlier for Elise. Or perhaps that is simply because Pearl wakes early these days, as children do.

Phoenix finds her walking through the village, staff in one hand and book in the other. She had been expecting him since she opened her eyes and finds herself grateful that he hasn't made her wait too long. A smile of greeting crosses her lips as she motions for him to join her, knowing full well why he is here and how difficult this will likely be for them both.

"So... my side of the story," Elise muses, as though Phoenix has asked her about her next book. "You do realize that I remember nothing of the time while Dahlia was in possession of my body."

"I know. But I want to hear what you do know."

What an interesting concept. Few people care enough past the actual trial to want to hear more. Fewer still want as many details as Phoenix seems to crave. Not that Elise minds, exactly; she had simply been under the impression that Godot would have told him everything by now. Perhaps it really is as Phoenix said: he wants to hear the story from Elise.

She supposes, just this once, she can indulge in a little personal storytelling.
