Work Text:

«Dokja woke up.»

When Yoo Joonghyuk heard these words coming out of Han Sooyoung’s mouth, his mind froze.

He was playing video games with Lee Jihye, completely decimating her at Mortal Kombat like the professional gamer he was. The girl could have used this moment to seize victory, but she too had her mouth wide open. This was how important this news was to them.

It has now been five years since Yoo Joonhyuk came back from collecting Kim Dokja’s fragments. Everyday he had been hoping for this moment since the man’s stories started playing again.

Yoo Joonhyuk rose abruptly from his gaming chair. He ran out the door to his companion’s room in a way very out of character, his two friends on his heels.

Lee Seolhwa was standing by the bed, fussing over the figure of a man who was all skin and bones. He had bags under his eyes, as if he didn’t just spend years sleeping.

The pro gamer closed his mouth, - which was open since he just sprinted with all his might from the other side of their big shared house - pulling the corner of his mouth downward, and frowned his eyebrows. His pupils were shaking. To those who knew him very well, they would say to you that the man was very happy and very grateful and that he was very glad, and that, andthathewantedtocry, and that, and…

All of Kim Dokja’s Company members were crying (except the sunfish).

With the most emotional face Yoo Joonhyuk ever made, the protagonist stared at his reader.

«You…» He said. «Kim Dokja, you look like shit.»

The man in the bed started laughing, albeit weakly.

«And you look as handsome as ever Yoo Joonhyuk.» He replied with his usual teasing smile.

They were in their own world, the ex-regressor gazing at his star, his constellation.

«I’m glad.» Dokja could detect the sincere smile in Joonhyuk’s eyes. «I was worried.»

They spent a few seconds, which felt like eternity, staring at each other. They could have stayed like this in their little bubble for hours if it wasn’t for the very competent doctor in the room who could see that her patient was quite distracted.

«I know everybody is excited that Kim Dokja-ssi is awake, » All the residents of the house were crowding the doorstep, the buff gamer blocking the way to the medium-sized room. « but he needs to rest. All of you go away! » said the pretty doctor with a scary face.

Lee Seolhwa pushed them all out with impressive strength, and slammed the door in their face. Despite this, the sunfish wasn’t mad. The squid did look like he could snap in two.

He walked down the hallway with soft steps that would put martial art masters to shame by their grace, and by how little sound they made. He was going to the kitchen. (The favorite place of our malewife.) Of course, his (favourite) companion hadn’t eaten in a long time.

This was the reason Yoo Joonhyuk gave himself when, in reality, he really wanted to show to Dokja how much he cared for him, and that he had been missed. Cooking was his love language after all.

While Yoo Joonhyuk is Kim Dokja’s reason to live, the contrary is also true, even if Yoo Joonhyuk forgot for a (long) while.
