Work Text:

Kuro yawned and stretched, sitting up as the sunlight from the window hit his eyes. Blinking himself awake, he processed the empty spot in the bed next to him. He was used to Shiro waking up first, of course, they'd been living together long enough for the norm to be established, and it had the added benefit of getting Kuro out of bed to find him when he would usually turn right over and fall back asleep.

Having crawled out of bed with another yawn, Kuro made his way to the kitchen. He stopped in the doorway and took a moment to admire his lover. Shiro was up and going, already dressed in his day clothes, waiting for his morning tea to steep. The sunlight coming in through the window haloed his pristine white fur and made him look almost angelic, and Kuro quickly lost count of the minutes he spent just watching him. Eventually though he shook himself out of it and quietly padded over, wrapping his arms around his hips and nuzzling his head into his shoulder, earning a surprised jolt from Shiro.

"Well, you're awake early for once," he said as he settled into his embrace, leaning his head against Kuro's, "I almost didn't know it was possible for you to wake up on your own at this time of morning."

Kuro stuck his tongue out. "Good morning to you too."

With a light chuckle, Shiro nuzzled his head and removed the teabag from his drink, setting it aside and then taking a sip. They stood like that for a bit, just enjoying the morning air, until Shiro heard a light snore come from Kuro and stepped away from him to jolt him back awake.

Falling to the floor and then jolting back upwards, Kuro rubbed his head and grumbled. "Alright, alright, I'm awake......you're just cozy."

With a bit of a chuckle, Shiro sat at their table and watched as his lover made his way around the kitchen to make himself breakfast. Getting the milk from the fridge, the cereal from the pantry.....narrowing his eyes at the order he poured them in, but that was an argument they'd had many times before. He kept his mouth shut to keep the peace of the morning, savoring this rare occurrence. Kuro finally joined him at the table, eyes still droopy as he shoveled spoonfuls into his mouth.

They sat in silence while consuming their food and drink, listening to the birds chirping outside and enjoying the feeling of the warm sun pouring in through their apartment window. Kuro especially got to enjoy the sight of Shiro backed by the light. In his brain he was basically sparkling, almost too good to be true, and Kuro only looked away when Shiro gave him a puzzled look whenever he stared for too long.

Finally finished with his tea, Shiro stood up with a sense of certainty and a stretch. Noticing Kuro not-so-subtly staring at him with a spoon in his mouth, he spoke up. "Since I clearly have your attention, useless robot, are you ready for our game later today? I thought I'd remind you since your waking up seems like a fluke."

The way Kuro spit out his cereal in shock certainly proved his point.
