The sky was cloudy and raining, it made the atmosphere was cold and grey. Despite that, Ice walked over towards Herbs treehouse.
“Hey Herb! You up?” Ice called out for his friend.
A response was only but a sniffle coming from the leaves.
“Heeeerb?” Ice walked over and went up the treehouses ladder. He poked his head up and spotted Herb. “Hey! How’re you doing?” He asked, and walked over to his friend who was on his bed.
“Mmmmmpphh..” Herb got up and wearily looked at Ice.
“…You.. You okay?” Ice tilted his head, confused but also a concerned expression spread over his face.
Herb didn’t respond but looked away from the avian.
“Heeerb.. Here, look at me..” Ice hesitantly took Herbs face and gently moved it so they could see each other. “Can you talk to me, Herb? Please?”
Herb looked at Ice, tears in his eyes. He leaned forwards and hugged his friend tightly.
“W-woah- it’s okay.. Sshhh.. It’s okay..” Ice said softly and gently rubbed Herbs back trying to comfort him.
“W-why do you like me?” Herb stuttered out. “I- I don’t understand.. You’re so nice.. and you always l-look out for me an-“ He sobbed.
Ice pushed Herb out from the hug, his hands on Herbs shoulders. His face serious. “I like you and I’m nice to you becuase- well- you’re… you. You have your flaws but I care so much about you. I wouldn’t change you in any way.” His gaze softened. “You taught me it’s okay to trust people and to care for people.. I didn’t have that back then.”
“B-but I-“ Herb started but he was quickly cut off by Ice.
“It’s okay.” Ice said softly and hugged his friend again. “Everything’s okay.. I’m here, you don’t need to change for anyone. You’re okay.” He said, and rested his head into the crook of Herbs shoulder.
The avian and the sheep hybrids stayed like that for a while, all was quiet then. But the silence was comforting. Hours later the two were sleeping on Herbs bed. Herb wrapped in Ices wings and Ices face buried in Herbs hair.
The world was comforting then.
