Chapter Text

Peem's brush danced over the canvas, blending colors into a serene landscape as the late afternoon sun painted the walls of the room with a warm, golden light. The art room hummed with the comforting sounds of brushes whispering against canvas and the occasional squeak of the chairs. The aroma of paint filled the air, a scent that never failed to relax Peem after a long day.

Q sat at the adjacent easel, his strokes more deliberate and methodical, creating a stark contrast to Peem's free-flowing style. They had been working together in companionable silence for hours, only breaking it to exchange occasional joke or critique. As Peem stepped back to assess his work, Q glanced over.

"You know, Peem," Q said, laying down his brush and wiping his hands on a stained rag, "you've got a real knack for this. It's like you're capturing the soul of the place, not just the view."

Peem chuckled, his eyes never leaving the canvas. "Thanks, Q. I'm just trying to get the light right."

"Well, you're nailing it," Q said nodding. He picked up a fresh brush, dipped it in paint, and went back to his own piece.

Peem took a sip from his water bottle, the condensation cool against his hand. "By the way, how's everything with you and Toey?" he asked, the question slipping out naturally.

Q's face lit up, and he paused in his work, looking over at Peem with a soft smile he had whenever Toey was mentioned. "Things are amazing, actually," he said, his voice filled with genuine warmth. "He's like the sun in my life, you know? Always brightening up even the dullest of days."

Peem nodded, a knowing smile playing on his lips. "That's great to hear, Q. You guys are so adorable together."

Q rolled his eyes, a grin spreading across his face. "Yeah, I guess I'm pretty lucky, aren't I?" Then he went back to painting, adding a few final touches to the intricate design that was taking shape. The room grew quieter as the afternoon stretched on, the only interruptions being the soft rustling of fabric and the gentle ticking of the clock in the room.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Peem set down his brush and sighed contentedly, his eyes sweeping over his creation. Q, shortly after, also finished, his brush hovering over the canvas as he assessed his own work.

"I think we're done here," Peem said, glancing at the time on his phone. "Wow, we've been at it for hours."

Q nodded, his eyes glued to his artwork. He took a deep breath and stepped back, the corners of his mouth lifting in satisfaction. "We did a good job."

Peem couldn't help but agree. "Yeah, we did"

He looked at Q's painting, his gaze lingering on the intricate details that seemed to pulse with life. Q had always had a way with colors, a mastery that Peem envied and admired. The way the light played off the textures he created was nothing short of mesmerizing.

Peem's phone buzzed in his pocket, pulling him out of his reverie. He fished it out and read the message from Phum. "Looks like I've got to go," he said to Q, trying to keep his voice casual. "Auntie needs me at the bar."

Q looked up, his eyes searching Peem's. "Alright, dude," he said, his voice tinged with understanding. "I'll stay here a little longer, I have to finish something."

Peem gathered his supplies into a worn messenger bag, suddenly feeling the weight of the secret that now seemed to fill the room. As he slung the bag over his shoulder, he couldn't shake the feeling that Q knew something was up, but he pushed it aside.

"Take care, Q," Peem said. "I'll catch you tomorrow."

With a nod, Q turned back to his painting, his eyes lingering on the spot where Peem's canvas had been. "You too, Peem. Don't let Auntie work you too hard."

After that Peem stepped out of the art room, the door closing softly behind him. The hallway outside was empty, the only sound the echo of footsteps and the hum of the air conditioner.

Phum was leaning against his car, the sun casting a halo around his head, and when he saw Peem, his face broke into a grin that was as warm as the late afternoon sun. Peem felt his heart skip a beat as he approached Phum, the tension of the day melting away at the sight of him.

"Hey, handsome," Phum said, his voice a gentle rumble that seemed to resonate in Peem's chest. Peem couldn't help but smile in return, his eyes sparkling with affection.

"Hi," Peem replied. Phum reached out, taking Peem's hand in his own. His thumb traced lazy circles on the back of Peem's hand, sending shivers up his arm.

"How was your day?" Phum asked, his eyes holding Peem's in a gentle embrace.

Peem couldn't help but feel a thrill at the sound of his boyfriend's voice. "It was good," he said, his voice a little shaky. "But it's about to get better."

Phum raised an eyebrow, a playful glint in his eye. "Oh? What's the plan?"

Peem shrugged, his eyes suddenly twinkling with mischief. "Dunno, but I've got a feeling it involves you and me, and not much else."

Phum's grin grew wider, and he tugged Peem closer. "Now, that's a plan I can get behind," he said, his breath warm against Peem's cheek. They stood there for a moment, basking in the simplicity of their connection. Then Peem's heart raced as Phum leaned in, his eyes dropping to Peem's lips.

The kiss was soft and lingering, filled with the promise of a thousand unspoken words. Peem melted into it, his arms wrapping around Phum's neck. For a moment, the world outside ceased to exist, and all that mattered was the warmth of Phum's embrace.

Meanwhile, in the art room, Q packed up his own supplies with meticulous care, placing each brush into its designated slot in his kit. Lost in his thoughts, he took a moment to appreciate the quietude that had descended upon the room, the kind that only comes when an assignment is completed and the mind is at ease.

With a sigh, he hoisted his bag onto his shoulder and made his way to the door. As he stepped into the hallway, the cooler air outside was a welcome change from the stuffy art room. The corridor was deserted, the last of the students having left for the day. Q's footsteps echoed against the linoleum floor, the only sound in the quiet in that late afternoon. He thought about the evening ahead, the quiet dinner he had planned with Toey, and the few sketches he wanted to complete before going to sleep.

As he approached the exit, the fading light cast long shadows across the pavement outside. The world was bathed in the soft glow of the setting sun, and the sounds of the city began to drift in, a gentle reminder of the life that went on beyond the university walls.

Q pushed open the heavy doors, the sudden influx of fresh air a stark contrast to the stale scent of the art room. He stepped out into the courtyard, his eyes immediately drawn to the sight of Peem and Phum standing by Phum's car.

They were lost in their own world, completely oblivious to their surroundings. Phum's hand was resting on Peem's waist, pulling him closer as their lips met in a kiss that was as sweet as it was passionate.

Q didn't want to intrude on their moment, so he took a few steps back, making sure not to be noticed by them. He had suspected something was going on between his best friend and Phum, but seeing it with his own eyes was still quite a shock.

Peem playfully pulled away from the kiss, giggling as Phum chased his retreating lips. Q felt a twinge of happiness for his friend, his heart swelling with joy. He had noticed the subtle changes in Peem's demeanor over the past few weeks, the secret smiles and the gentle touches that seemed to pass between him and Phum, when the latter was around.

Then he watched as Peem slid into the passenger seat of Phum's car, his eyes still sparkling with mirth. Phum closed the door with a gentle click, leaned in through the open window, and whispered something that made Peem's cheeks red. Then, with a final wink, he circled the car and climbed into the driver's seat.

Q felt a warmth spread through his chest and as he watched the car drive away from there he couldn't help but feel a profound sense of happiness for his best friend. Peem really deserved this, deserved someone who could make him laugh like that, who could coax the light from his eyes so easily.

He turned away from the sight, a smile playing on his lips. He knew he would have to talk to Peem eventually, but for now, he was content to let them have their secret. They'll tell everyone when they are ready, and of course he'll be there to support them.
