“Hinata, I only came because you asked me to! You cannot ditch me now,” Yamaguchi was mad. To be fair, he just wanted to stay home today. School was so stressful for no reason today. He only came to the stupid school fair because Hinata wouldn’t stop asking him.
Ditching him for a guy? At the county fair? Seriously?
“I know, I know! I’m sorry! But Kageyama is right there,” Hinata blushed.
He and Kageyama are currently have something going on but they aren’t dating. Honestly, if you didn’t know you would think they were in a full on relationship. Unfortunately, both of them are too scared to get to that title.
Yamaguchi thought about it, there’s no point of being mad forever. Hinata definitely owes him big time though.
“Whatever. Go have fun,” He sighed, pushing his friend into Kageyama’s direction.
“Love you! I will buy you breakfast, lunch, and dinner all next week!” Hinata ran off with a huge smile on his face.
Yamaguchi loved seeing his friend happy, but lord help him if they don’t get together anytime soon. He can’t deal with their bullshit anymore.
I might as well look around.
Yamaguchi didn’t mind fairs. They’re fun, but pricey for no reason. He and Hinata already bought tickets for rides so he might as well use them.
He settled for a merry-go-round type ride. When he got in the single rider for obvious reasons and was in front of it quite quickly.
“I swear I thought this ride was meant for 3 people!”
A group having to be broken up. Yamaguchi’s been there and it sucks. He feels bad for the person that’s going to be taken out, even if he doesn’t know them.
It’s final Yamaguchi’s turn to get on the ride. He doesn’t really like interacting with complete strangers but it’s a ride. They don’t have to talk.
“Sorry Tsukki-poo!”
Yamaguchi giggles a little. The name was adorable and hilarious. He looks towards the person who said it and saw a tall blonde guy coming his way. He’s guessing that’s Tsukki-poo and they’re paired for the ride.
The blonde was cute. Yamaguchi noticed it right away. Made the ride 10x better.
They both didn’t speak and the ride started.
The ride was okay. It was nothing out of the ordinary. Yamaguchi was craving a funnel cake right after. He contemplated whether he should get it from the booth in front of ride or walk around until he finds another booth.
He decided it would be better to get it from the booth in front. He could enjoy it while walking around.
“As our formal apology, will you accept a funnel cake, Tsukki-poo?” Yamaguchi turned his head slightly to see a guy with really bad bed hair and another guy with white and black spikey hair, practically on their knees begging for forgiveness.
“Whatever, and stop calling me that.”
Yamaguchi had already been in line and they got right behind him.
Must be nice. Yamaguchi sighed at the thought. Who wouldn’t want to be with some friends right now?
“Hey, Yamaguchi right?” Yamaguchi turned to Tsukki-poo wondering how does he know his name?
“Um, yeah? Sorry, do I know you?” I know I was just on the same ride as him but to my knowledge I’m not wearing a name tag.
“Probably not. We just go to the same school, I think you’re in my culinary class.”
Yamaguchi is taking culinary but how has he never notice Tsukki-poo? You could for sure spot the guy from far away. School also just started.
“Oh… I don’t think I’ve seen you before? What’s your name?”
“It’s Tsukishima Kei, and I haven’t shown up in a while,” he said.
“Makes sense. The teacher is kinda, bitchy…” Yamaguchi didn’t know how else to put it. His teacher was supposed to retire last year but something happened and she didn’t. She’s very snappy and gets annoyed easily. She also expects you to understand things in five minutes and gets mad when you don’t. He’s trying to get out of the class but it’s hard when everyone else is too.
“Kind of?” Tsukishima snicker a little.
“Alright, fine. She is bitchy. Can’t blame her though. Imagine planning your retirement and it doesn’t end up happening. I would react the same way,” Yamaguchi shrugged.
“Good point.”
It was Yamaguchi’s turn to order and they made his funnel cake quickly. Maybe he could catch one of those free concerts? The music might not be good but it’s peaceful in that area.
He starts making his way there when he hears his name, “Yamaguchi!”
He pauses, and soon Tsukishima is by his side.
“I got ditched. Care to enjoy the together?”
“Sure!” Yamaguchi smiles. Tsukishima seems nice and it wouldn’t hurt him to make a new friend.
They walk towards the plaza where the free concert is being held. They talk about school mostly on their way there.
“Volleyball? I didn’t know we had a team.”
“Are you serious? You also didn’t know about lacrosse team, I’m wondering if you even go to that school.”
“I do, I swear! I’m go to it but I’m not involved enough. I should be, but I’m not,” Yamaguchi sighs. Would he like to be involved? A little, not that much though. He has the next three years to join clubs and stuff.
Tsukishima laughs at this. Although he’s forced to involved in school and know stuff he didn’t care about because of his friends.
They reach the plaza and take a seat at an empty table. Luckily for them the music isn’t bad. It’s just some band covering some songs.
“What do you listen to, Tsukki?”
“Tsukki?”
“I heard your friend calling you Tsukki-poo earlier. I can call you Tsukishima if you don’t like it.”
“No, no. It sounds cute when you say it. Just don’t add anything to it.”
Yamaguchi cheeks flush a little. He could’ve said the name just sounded cute, but he said it’s cute when Yamaguchi says it.
“Got it.” He simply responds.
They’re end up talking about music for a while and even followed each other on Spotify. Tsukishima suggested making a playlist for one another and Yamaguchi didn’t see a reason not to. But that would have to be done later.
They talk for a while finishing their funnel cakes. Once they finish, they decide to walk around the games.
“Look! That so cute!” Yamaguchi heads towards a booth with a green dinosaur plush, Tsukishima following shortly.
It’s a ball in a bucket game, Yamaguchi’s favorite. Even if he doesn’t win a lot it’s still fun.
Before Yamaguchi has a chance to ask the staff member about playing, Tsukishima already bought a round.
“You didn’t have to do that,” Yamaguchi sighs.
“I didn’t but I already did, so…” he hand Yamaguchi a baseball so he can toss.
The round came with 4 baseballs. Yamaguchi makes the first one in the bucket and Tsukishima misses. They both end up making the last two, which means they won the dinosaur plush.
The staff member hands it to Tsukishima and he immediately gives it to Yamaguchi, “For you.”
“Aw, thank you Tsukki. I’ll win something for you!” Yamaguchi smiled, Tsukishima smiling back.
There’s a bigger crowd in this area than any of the other, because of this Yamaguchi intertwines his arm with Tsukishima. Tsukishima doesn’t abject, he was a caught off-guard first, but he couldn’t be happier.
Both head towards different booths playing a variety of games. Yamaguchi ends up winning a star plush and gifting it to Tsukishima.
Sort of feels like a date… Yamaguchi can’t help but think. Maybe he’s looking into it too much. He wants to push this thought to the side but he can’t help but thinking about it, a lot.
He’s barely met Tsukishima today and spent hours with him already. It just clicked for them.
______
The fair was doing a firework show near an hour before closing time, they decided to sit down on a grass area with a great view. There weren’t many people there because it was hidden. Tsukishima knew about it, and decided it was the perfect stop for them.
“Alright, next question. What’s your everyday superpower?”
Yamaguchi thought about it for a good 10 seconds before responding with, “I can fall asleep literally anywhere. I fell asleep at the dentist once.”
“What? Like in the waiting area?”
“No, in the chair. They’re so comfy!”
“You’re crazy if you think they’re actually comfortable…”
“You’re crazy if you think they’re not. Anyway, what about yours?”
“I have a great sense of smell, it sucks sometimes,” Tsukishima answers.
“Really? I was expecting you to say something like you’re good time keeping. It seems you are.”
“I just guess a lot.”
“Seriously? You got us here exactly at 9:50, on the dot. You didn’t even check your phone the whole time!
“Luck I guess?”
“Crazy, just crazy. Also, I have a really bad sense of smell, it’s funny.”
“I would love that. Some parts of the fair smell like ass,” Tsukishima sighed. He took off his glasses to clean them.
Yamaguchi couldn’t help but stare at him. The moonlight was hitting him and he’s already handsome with his glasses, but without them he’s just… breathtaking.
Tsukishima notices him staring, and he can’t help but blush a little. Does he have something on his face? He puts on his glasses and stares at the sky. The fireworks are starting. Yamaguchi turns his attention a towards them instead.
Tsukishima glanced towards Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi was in awe of the fireworks. He looked adorable. Tsukishima was paying more attention to him than the fireworks.
His long hair is long and half is tied back, his freckles Tsukishima would love to count, his ear piercings…
How can a person be so beautiful?
“Do I have something on my face, Tsukki?” Yamaguchi asks without turning his head.
“Uh, no… I was just admiring.”
Yamaguchi laughs at this, becoming a little red. Tsukishima can’t help but smile towards him.
They both stare at each other as the show continues. Neither of them moving. It’s as if the world stop, and it’s just them.
“Hello, Tsukki-poo~” Tsukishima’s friend say scaring the shit out of both of them.
“What the fuck Bokuto?!”
“Look, sorry for interrupting your date. I e’ve been calling you for hours,” Bokuto shrugs.
“What’s the point of having a phone if you aren’t going to use it?”
“Fuck off Kuroo,” Tsukishima tone makes it clear he’s mad.
Kuroo sits in between the two whole Bokuto takes a seat next to Yamaguchi.
“So sorry for interrupting. What’s your name?” Kuroo smirks.
“Yamaguchi Tadashi and it’s fine…”
“Oh! Yamaguchi? You don’t say! You’re in Tsukishima class! It’s an honor. I’m Kuroo and this is Bokuto, we’re his best friends!”
“You know, Tsukki-dude has been talking about you since school started-“ Bokuto added before Tsukishima got up and dragged Yamaguchi away.
“We’ll see you at the car!!! Have fun!” The duo yelled before laughing.
Since school started? What? Yamaguchi thoughts or sort of all over the place as Tsukishima drags him away.
He looks towards him and Tsukishima ears are flushed. It’s cute.
“Tsukki? Can we stop?”
“Yeah, sorry. Sorry about them.” Tsukishima let’s go of Yamaguchi. They’re both quiet.
“The fair is about to end, we should leave,” Yamaguchi says. He hates silence, he doesn’t care if it’s a little awkward right now, but he needs to break it.
“Yeah. Let’s go.”
They start walking. Tsukishima brain is going through 1000 thoughts at once. Does Yamaguchi find what Bokuto said weird? Is that why he isn’t talking?
But really, Yamaguchi is just trying to figure out what to say without bringing up with Bokuto said.
“Yamaguchi!”
Thank you to whatever is on my side.
It’s Hinata with Kageyama walking towards them.
“Thank you,” Yamaguchi whispers to Hinata leaving him confused but he just shrugs it off.
“Who’s this?” Hinata asks looking up at Tsukishima.
“This is Tsukki! He’s in my culinary class. Tsukki, this is Hinata abd Kageyama.”
There’s tension in the air around Tsukishima and Kageyama but it’s not bad. They just aren’t fond of each other.
“We’ve met,” Kageyama says.
“Unfortunately,” Tsukishima sighs.
Hinata makes the connection this is Tsukishima who’s on the volleyball team with Kageyama, who Kageyama complains about all the time.
They were all heading towards the exit before so they decided to go together. Yamaguchi and Hinata being in the walking in between Tsukishima and Kageyama.
Luckily Hinata loves to talk which helps making conversation. They all talk and even laugh together.
They make it to the parking lot.
“Hinata, do you need a ride?” Yamaguchi asks.
“Nope! I’m going over to Kageyama’s house.”
With that Kageyama and Hinata leave, and Yamaguchi pulls out his keys. He got the best parking spot. It’s not go far of a walk and it’s near the exit.
“You drive?”
“Yeah, surprisingly.”
“Surprisingly?”
“I barely, just barely passed the test last week,” Yamaguchi laughs recalling all his past attempts.
Tsukishima offers to walk him to his car and lets Yamaguchi talk about how on his first attempt at his driving test he ALMOST ran over a cyclist. He said the guy came out of nowhere. His second attempt a lady just started walking across the road, not even bothering to check if cars were coming right in front of him. He was told he “failed to anticipate the actions of pedestrians.”
Thankfully he passed the third time, but could’ve failed because he’s pretty sure he hit a trash can a little. The instructor didn’t notice though.
Tsukishima just laughed at all of this.
“I will always be better at written tests. I passed the first time, but actually driving? Wild,” Yamaguchi says. He notices they’ve reached his car, “Well, this one’s mine. I would offer you ride but I don’t know you enough to know if you’re a serial killer or not.”
“Valid.” Tsukishima smiles.
“Um, today was fun like really fun. You’re really cool, Tsukki,” Yamaguchi smiles.
“Uh, you’re really cool too, Yamaguchi. We should hangout again. Could you give me your number?”
They’re both blushing at this point. It’s inevitable.
“Of course, Tsukki.”
Yamaguchi gives Tsukishima his number and gets in his car. He knows the just met today but why is heart beating so fast?
Tsukishima is just happy, too happy… It makes his friends uncomfortable.
