Chapter 1: 1.
Chapter Text
It had been ages since Donghyun had last seen Dongmin. They were best friends since the kindergarten, had grown up through thick and thin, but life took them in different directions after elementary school. Donghyun now found himself working at a cozy coffee shop, his days filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the bustle of student chatter. One crisp October morning, as the leaves outside were ablaze with autumn colors, the coffee shop door opened, and a familiar face walked in - Dongmin. Donghyun's heartbeat quickened as he recognized his old friend, but he tried his best to maintain his composure. He offered a warm smile, trying to hide his surprise. "Welcome to Beans & Brews. What can I get you today?"Dongmin looked around the coffee shop, taking it all in, before his gaze settled on Donghyun behind the counter. His eyes widened slightly in recognition. "Donghyun? Is that really you?"Donghyun couldn't help but grin a little wider at being recognized. "Yeah, it's me. How long has it been, ten years?" He chuckled softly to hide his nerves."Seems like a lifetime ago," Dongmin mused, taking a seat at the counter. "I still remember when we used to chase each other in the playground during recess."Donghyun chuckled, recalling the same memory. "Yeah, and how we used to share our snacks during lunchtime." He started preparing Dongmin's coffee order. "How have you been? What are you doing now?" "Oh, you know," Dongmin said, his voice nonchalant, but his eyes revealing a hint of melancholy. "Just living life. I'm studying at the local university right now." He paused, studying Donghyun closely. "What about you? Still stuck in this coffee shop after all these years?"Donghyun felt a pinch of embarrassment but chuckled it off. "Hey, don't diss the coffee shop. It's a nice place." He placed the freshly made coffee in front of Dongmin. "Besides, I'm the one making the coffee now, not hogging the monkey bars like we used to."Dongmin took a sip of his coffee and let out a satisfied sigh. "Hmm, still make a good cup of coffee I see." He paused for a moment, contemplating something, then looked directly into Donghyun's eyes. "Can I ask you something?"Donghyun felt a flutter in his stomach at the intensity of Dongmin's gaze. A bit nervous, he answered, "Sure, what is it?"Dongmin looked around to ensure there were no eaves droppers before leaning in closer to Donghyun. His voice dropped to a whisper. "Do you remember that time, during our final year of elementary school, when we..." His words trailed off, as if the memory was too precious to verbally express.

Donghyun suddenly felt flustered as the memory flooded back. He coughed a little, trying to compose himself. "Yeah, I remember," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "We... we promised not to forget each other."Dongmin nodded, his expression a mix of nostalgia and something else that Donghyun couldn't quite place. "Yeah, we did." He looked down at his coffee, stirring it absently. "I don't know why, but sometimes I would find myself wondering how you were doing, wishing we could see each other again..."Donghyun's heart pounded a little harder as he listened to Dongmin's words. He had often thought of his old friend too, missing the carefree days of their childhood. "I've thought about you too," he admitted, his voice soft. "I used to pass by our old school sometimes, just to reminisce."There was a brief silence between them, the air thick with unspoken words and pent up emotions. Then, as if Dongmin was psyching himself up for something, he suddenly blurted out, "Hey, do you... do you want to hang out sometime? Catch up properly?"Donghyun felt a rush of excitement, but he tried to play it cool. "Yeah, I'd like that," he said, hoping his smile didn't give away how much the prospect of spending time with Dongmin thrilled him. "Just like old times, right?""Just like old times," Dongmin echoed, a small, almost wistful smile on his lips. "Maybe we could go to the park, you know, like how we used to?"Donghyun chuckled. "We were quite the reckless duo back then, weren't we? I still remember that time you dared me to climb that big tree and then I got stuck halfway up."Dongmin laughed at the memory. "I was so scared you would fall and break something, but I didn't want to seem like a wuss so I just stood there pretending I wasn't terrified."Donghyun woke up with a strange mixture of excitement and nerves. Today was the day he would meet Dongmin at the park. The weather was perfect - a slightly cool breeze, the sun just the right amount of warm, and the sky painted with streaks of blue and white.
He spent an embarrassingly long time picking out his outfit, finally settling on his favorite dark jeans and a plaid shirt that he hoped didn't make him look like a lumberjack.Stepping out of his apartment, he took a deep breath, the crisp morning air filling his lungs. As he walked to the park, he couldn't help but feel a mix of anxiety and anticipation. It had been so long since he'd seen Dongmin.Reaching the park, he spotted Dongmin waiting under a large oak tree - their favorite spot from childhood.Dongmin stood leaning against the tree, his hands stuffed into the pockets of his hoodie. He looked the same as he did all those years ago, his hair still unruly, his smile warm and familiar. When he noticed Donghyun, his face lit up with a wide grin."Donghyun!" he called out, pushing off the tree and walking over. "You made it!"Donghyun felt a wave of nostalgia as he approached Dongmin. "Of course, I wouldn't miss it," he said, his voice a bit shaky from nerves. They stood facing each other for a moment, a comfortable silence hanging between them, but there was a hint of shyness in the air, a hesitance after so many years apart.Dongmin chuckled suddenly, breaking the silence. "You know what's funny? You look almost the same as you did back in elementary school. Just a bit... taller." He motioned to Donghyun's height, a teasing glint in his eyes. Donghyun chuckled, his nerves settling slightly. "And you're still as cheeky as ever," he retorted, grinning. "Still got that same smirk, don't you?"There was a pause, an electric moment of silence. Then, Dongmin's smirk turned into a sheepish grin. "There's something I've wanted to do for a long time," he confessed, his voice quiet. Before Donghyun could even respond, Dongmin stepped closer, closing the gap between them. His hand came up to rest on Donghyun's hip, and he leaned in, their faces just inches apart.Donghyun felt his heart skip a beat. The proximity of Dongmin was intoxicating. "W-what are you doing?" he managed to stammer, his voice a whisper.
Dongmin's gaze was intense, almost hungry. His thumb gently stroked Donghyun's hip, sending a shiver down his spine. "Something I should've done years ago," he murmured, his voice low and raspy. Before Donghyun could respond, Dongmin's other hand came up to cradle his cheek, the touch gentle but firm. He moved even closer, his body almost pressing against Donghyun's. "Donghyun," he whispered, his breath warm on Donghyun's lips, "I've been wanting to do this for a very, very long time."This was all happening so fast, so unexpectedly. Donghyun couldn't think straight, couldn't form coherent thoughts. All he could do was stare into Dongmin's eyes, his heart thudding loudly in his chest. He swallowed hard, trying to find his voice. "You... you have?" he managed to croak out, his throat dry. Dongmin nodded, his thumb tracing circles on Donghyun's cheek. "I've thought about it a lot," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "Every time I saw you, every time we were near each other. I just never had the guts to do anything about it."His gaze drifted down to Donghyun's lips, his own lips parting slightly. He leaned in even closer, his body nearly flush against Donghyun's.Donghyun could hardly breathe. He felt a strange mix of emotions, but amidst the confusion, one thing was certain: he wanted this, he wanted this more than anything.
But before he could say or do anything, Dongmin closed the remaining distance between them and kissed him. It was soft, tentative at first, just a gentle press of lips. But then it deepened, growing more passionate, more urgent. Dongmin's hand on Donghyun's hip slid to the small of his back, pulling him closer. Donghyun, overwhelmed by sensation, tangled his fingers in Dongmin's hoodie, clinging to him as if he might disappear if he let go.
They kissed for what felt like an eternity, the world around them disappearing into nothingness. It wasn't until they both desperately needed air that they broke apart, panting, foreheads resting against each other. They stayed like that for a while, just enjoying the closeness, the sensation of each other's breath on their skin. Finally, Dongmin spoke, his voice slightly shaky. "That was... wow," he breathed, a small laugh slipping out. "I can't believe I waited so long to do that."

Donghyun managed a weak laugh, his knees still feeling a bit spongy. "I can't believe it took you so long," he joked. "Seriously, I always thought you didn't feel the same way about me.""I thought the same about you," Dongmin admitted, a shy smile on his lips. "I guess we're both idiots, huh?"Donghyun chuckled. "Yeah, we are," he agreed, finally finding his usual banter-filled tone. "But at least we're idiots together, right?""Absolutely," Dongmin agreed, grinning.
They stood there for a while longer, relishing the feel of each other's presence before Dongmin spoke up again. "So... does this mean we're... you know, more than just friends now?"Just as Donghyun was about to answer Dongmin's question, they were interrupted by the sound of someone calling out.
"Hey, look who it is!" A voice exclaimed, and a moment later, two figures appeared from behind the park bench. Kim Woonhak and Lee Sanghyeok, their former schoolmates, approached them with grins on their faces. Donghyun and Dongmin quickly separated, both a bit flushed, and greeted their old classmates.
"What are you guys doing here?" Donghyun asked, trying to sound casual. Woonhak smirked, his gaze flickering between Donghyun and Dongmin. "We could ask you the same question. Seems like you two were having quite the intimate moment."Sanghyeok, ever the blunt one, chimed in. "Were you guys about to make out or something? Got a little carried away, huh?"Donghyun felt his face heat up more, but Dongmin just laughed it off. "Oh, shut up, you guys," he retorted, a mock glare on his face. Woonhak raised an eyebrow, a teasing glint in his eye. "Seriously though, what's going on between you two? Are you... dating now?" He looked between them expectantly.Donghyun glanced at Dongmin, unsure if he wanted to reveal their blossoming relationship to their friends. But Dongmin just winked at him, then turned to Woonhak with a confident grin. "Yeah, we are," he admitted, wrapping an arm around Donghyun's shoulders.Sanghyeok's eyes widened in surprise, but Woonhak merely laughed. "Well, it's about time!" he exclaimed, ruffling Donghyun's hair. "We always knew you two had feelings for each other."Donghyun protested, swatting at Woonhak's hand, while Dongmin just chuckled. Sanghyeok crossed his arms, a smirk on his lips. "But seriously, you two better not spend all your time making out and ignore the rest of us. We want in on the fun too, you know."Donghyun rolled his eyes, but Dongmin just laughed again. "Don't worry, we won't abandon you guys," he assured them. Woonhak snickered. "Yeah, but we might barge in on a few of your dates just to keep you on your toes."Donghyun groaned, but couldn't hide his smile. "You guys are the worst," he muttered, but there was no real annoyance in his tone. Sanghyeok just smirked. "You love us and you know it," he said, slapping Donghyun on the back. The four of them bantered back and forth for a while longer, discussing old times and teasing each other relentlessly. Eventually, Woonhak and Sanghyeok said their goodbyes, promising to catch up again soon.
Once they were alone again, Dongmin turned to Donghyun, a soft smile on his face. "Well, I guess they took that better than expected."Donghyun chuckled, shaking his head. "They're menaces, but they mean well." He paused, a playful glint in his eyes. "Though you have to admit, they're going to be relentless with the teasing now."Dongmin sighed dramatically, but there was a hint of amusement in his expression. "I know. I'm not looking forward to the endless jokes and innuendos." He then stepped closer to Donghyun, wrapping his arms around his waist. "But, you know, it's worth it." He leaned in, resting his chin on Donghyun's shoulder.Donghyun smiled, leaning back against Dongmin, the familiar comfort of his embrace soothing his nerves. "Yeah, it is," he agreed.
They stayed like that for a moment, enjoying the silence, when suddenly Dongmin spoke up again."So... where were we before we got interrupted?" he asked, pulling back slightly so he could look at Donghyun.Donghyun pretended to think for a moment, as if he didn't remember what they were talking about before. "Hmm, I don't remember," he said teasingly.
But he couldn't keep a straight face for long, a grin breaking out on his lips. "Oh wait, I think we were talking about..." He trailed off, his gaze dropping from Dongmin's eyes to his lips. Dongmin chuckled, his grip on Donghyun's waist tightening. "Yeah, I think we were," he murmured, his voice dropping a bit lower. He leaned in, his face mere inches from Donghyun's. "Something about... us being more than just friends now..."Dongmin leaned into the kiss, his lips soft yet firm against Donghyun's. They lost themselves in the moment, forgetting about the world around them, their hands holding onto each other tightly.
Finally, the need for air forced them apart, both slightly breathless and flushed. They grinned stupidly at each other, the realization of their new relationship still sinking in.
