His heterochromatic gaze lands on their sleeping form. Their silky strands of hair cover their shut eyes. He can’t find it in himself to resist the urge to touch them. They radiated a softness he always fell prey to. His hand reaching out to brush the strands away from their face, exposing their sleeping face. He finds himself enrapt in the sight of them, taking note of every freckle and scar on their face and how their long lashes gently gracing the tops of their cheeks. He silently prayed to Satan in thanks for his ability to wake up next to them again. As his hand tucks a final strand behind their ear before parting from them, their left hand grabs his wrist before placing his hands against their cheek. The soft giggle that leaves their lips as they lean into his touch makes his heartbeat skip. Even after all these years they still left him with butterflies in his stomach.
“Good morning, my love.” They murmur softly as their eyes open to meet his warm gaze. His fingers come to cards through their hair again before a pleased smile crosses their lips.
“Good morning, schricchio.” He responds softly as their eyes meet his again. He can’t help the small smile that tugs at the corner of his lips as they soak up the simple affection. As he tucks a piece of their hair behind their ear he notices a soft pink blush come across cheeks. It never failed to blow his mind that someone as sweet could love him so much and look at him with such devotion. A soft questioning hum leaves them before he realizes he’s been staring. His hand leaves their hair to gently cup their jaw.
“I’m just so grateful to have you.” He admits with a soft chuckle. The tender admittance, though not something they hadn’t heard, made a smile widen on their lips.
“You couldn’t get rid of me now even if you wanted to.” they warn playfully. For an instant he imagined his life without them and it made his heart sink. There was a lull between them for a few moments before he spoke again,
“Marry me,” He asks softly as his thumb comes to trace their cheek. their eyes widen in shock as the question leaves his lips. As their eyes leave his face they come to sit up in his bed. This only caused his heart to sink again. He knew marriage wasn’t something that either of them had considered prior, content with their relationship as it was, but the idea of them not wanting to be with him made his chest ache. He was broken out of his thoughts when felt their warm touch against his chest.
“You mean it? ‘Til death?” They ask almost nervously. As the words leave their lips their teeth come to worry their bottom lip as their eyes threaten to water.
“Of course, bene mio,” He reassures them as his hand comes to take theirs,”I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” As soon as the words left his mouth a soft, relieved sigh passed their lips. The dread in the pit of his stomach easing.
“Yes, Copia, I will marry you.” they tell him with a soft nod. He couldn’t help himself as he sat up, pulled them towards him, and pressed a kiss to their lips. With a quiet giggle they reciprocated the gentle affection. Neither of them pulled away until they were breathless, both smiling at the other.
“Lady Imperator is gonna be one hell of a title for little old me.” they joke as they rest their forehead against his.
“I wouldn’t have anyone else.” He murmurs
