"Remy please please please I beg of you! You've seen how good with little Harry I am!", Sirius pleaded while tugging on Remus's sweater. This had become a daily occurrence for months that Sirius begged to adopt a child. Ever since James and Regulus, with the help of Lily as a surrogate, had Harry he had been wanting a kid. It is true that Sirius was quite good around kids despite his chaotic nature, hell Harry loved his uncle more than any of the others it seemed; but Remus was worried.
Ever since Remus could remember, he's been a werewolf. Of course his friends know of it by now but the thought of a little kid running around during one of the full moons terrified him, what if he hurts the child? "Love, are you alright?" Sirius asked as he pulled Remus close to him, "Yea I'm fine doll. just thinking. " Replied Remus. There was one secret Remus had kept from all of them except from Marlene.
Marlene and Remus had been working together on a potion that would stop him from turning into a wolf every full moon, it was almost complete except for a few loose bits. He supposed the potion was close enough to done, maybe it was time to finally give in. "I suppose we could adopt a child, it wouldn't hurt after all." Remus said as he looked at his husband and watched as his eyes light up with excitement, "Oh really?!" exclaimed Sirius, "Thank you thank you thank you!" Sirius smiled as he jumped up and down before kissing Remus full of passion.
"I know the place to adopt from just leave it up to me!", Sirius gushed. Remus chuckled and smiled at the excitement Sirius now radiated, "Okay okay Star, your excitement is so adorable. How about next week we go to the place you have in mind and find someone to adopt? but for now we need sleep" Remus said through a smile. Sirius nodded and dragged him by the hand to go to bed that night wanting to sleep earlier in hopes of passing time sooner.
A week later...
"It's the day! It's the day!" Sirius rejoiced as he danced around, "Oh my, I am going to be a papa Moons! I might actually cry out of joy!" Sirius said as he dramatically fell back onto the sofa behind him. Remus was still sore from the full moon a couple nights ago but the pain seemed to lessen as he spent time in Sirius's radius of joy. "C'mon! Lets go! I want a child" Sirius said after breakfast was over and practically dragged Remus out of the house.
...
Sirius was insistent that he drove to the place he had in mind, saying it had to be a surprise. Remus looked out the window and watched as rain gently poured down when he got a glimpse of the building and gasped, "St. Edmunds? I haven't been here in years.." he said softly under his breath. Sirius pulled into a parking spot and stopped the car as he turned to Remus, putting a hand on Remus's thigh, "Yea, I thought it'd be nice to adopt from here yknow?" He said as he smiled, "If you don't want to-" Sirius was interrupted when Remus kissed him with what he could only describe, rather dramatically, as the heat of thousands of suns.
"I-i love it, just as much as I love you." Remus choked up as his eyes started to fill with tears. With that they both got out of the car, Sirius had decided to chat with Matron a while to get to know about the boys while Remus wandered meeting each of the boys. He was walking down the bedroom corridor when he started getting a headache and his eyes caught on to it, it was a silver plated door like that of which he had when he lived here. He listened quietly as he swore he could hear a heartbeat on the other side, was there another werewolf here? could there even be another one here?
He decided to run back down the hall to where Sirius and the matron were chatting, "Siri! Matron!" he pants out of breath, "Matron, I saw a silver plated door like the one from when I lived here. Is there another-" Matron nodded and cut him off, " Yes there is Mr. Lupin. Do you wish to meet him? He's quite the young man, though unlike you, he loves staying in there." Remus looked at Sirius for a look of approval before nodding and grabbing his hand as they followed behind Matron.
“Now, He doesn’t seem to like visitors. Dumbledore himself has been asking for a bloody visit.” Matron warned as she focused on unlocking the door. “Atlas boy, a couple is here to see you.” She called out, Remus heard a faint retort of that it was “a load of dirt”. It had reminded him of when he couldn’t believe Dumbledore came for him. “Oh hush now, one of the men are actually of your kind. I think it might be nice for you.” She spat back as Sirius and Remus walked into the room.
Remus then saw him, He looked no older than 11 maybe; bound to get his letter any time now. He was buddled in a corner of the bed with a book in his lap. His hair was a dusty dark brown while his eyes were an ice blue. His skin was pale as snow but covered with scars and freckles, his glasses broken but taped at the bridge.
Remus slowly walked towards Atlas, cautious not to get too close. “May I sit? I have chocolate, it’ll help,” Remus asked. Atlas hesitated before nodding and shifting his gaze inbetween Sirius and Remus. “Ar- Are you like me?” He said quietly as he popped a small piece of chocolate in his mouth. Remus nodded gently, “Yes, I’m one as well and the man over there-” He paused to look behind him where he saw Sirius leaning against the wall gazing in awe, “is my husband, Sirius.”
Atlas nodded as he took the information in, “So, are you here for me?” he hesitantly asked as Siri walked up to sit on Remus’ lap. Remus nodded and they began to chat more. They found out his name was Atlas Luna Bayland, he was 10 and about to be 11 next month. As they continued to talk sunset slowly crept on them. Before they knew it was time for Remus and Sirius to leave.
Before they walked out the building they signed Atlas’ papers to adopt him. A new wolf was joining the pack. When they got home they told everyone the news, that he was going to be coming home in a week. The week went by in a blur as the group pitched in putting together Atlas’ room.
…
They had finally got Atlas’ to the house and as they opened the door everyone stood up and cheered, “Welcome to the pack baby wolf!”.
