Chapter Text
It was a normal morning, y/n thought as she looked outside the castle windows. She rolled out of her bed and strolled towards a dress that the maids had so carefully placed upon the princesses desk. While putting it on, she reminisces about the time she spent with her husband, Bakugou Katsuki.
"Your Majesty! The king is waiting for you in the throne room!"
A similar voice came from outside the chamber doors.
"Got it!" y/n said.
"Give me a few more minutes as I get ready."
After getting ready, she roamed the halls walking past the many doors, who knows what lies within this new palace that she now resides in.
Y/n glances around the throne room and her eyes lay upon the blonde, red eyed man standing while conversing with a young brunette woman. 'He was so fixated upon her, the way he's smiling at her..'
'He's never smiled at me like that before... Not even when we were getting married.....'
Bakugou quickly caught glimpse of the worried look on y/n's face.
"Y/n!"
His voice made her train of thought halt.
"I wanted to speak to you" he continued, "I was thinking much about what we should do about the state of affairs of both of our kingdoms."
'Of course.. all he wants to talk about with me is always about our kingdom, never about us...'
The brunette lady spoke, "Let's talk again some other time, Katsuki."
"Of course we will, Uraraka."
'Uraraka, so that's her name..'
"Why don't we go to the meeting room?" Bakugou conveyed.
"Lead the way."
They both wandered around the palace, finally reaching the meeting room. After a long discussion on what to do with the matters of the kingdom, the king was about to leave before y/n pulled up all the courage she has and asked him,
"Are you and Lady Uraraka lovers?"
Bakugou stopped in his tracks looking frozen.
"I mean I don't mind if you two are but at least tell me if-"
"WE ARE NOT LOVERS!" Katsuki interrupted. "AND I WILL NOT BE HAVING THIS CONVERSATION AGAIN! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME!?"
Y/n not expecting such a reaction gripped onto her silk dress and looked down with a disheartened tone, biting her lips for even thinking of asking him. Katsuki left with his usual annoyed look, maybe even more annoyed this time around, leaving poor y/n all alone in the room.

Back in her room -
Y/n thought about what happened throughout the day and sulked on her chambers until she heard a sudden knock from the door. She went towards the door and leaned her ear against it.
“Y/n. Are you there? It's me, Shoto Todoroki.”
‘Todoroki? As in the Duke of the North?’
“Uhm y-yes your grace?”
He spoke, “I’m here to pick you up so we can go to the modiste.”
“R-right I'll be right there!”
‘Right… I forgot that I was supposed to go to the modiste for my new outfit.’
“Okay, I'll be waiting for you.”
His steps grew faint as he left, leaving behind his footsteps. I took my purse and a few jewelries that went along with my dress and went outside to see Todoroki opening the carriage door as if he was waiting for my arrival.
“After you, my queen.”
I stepped inside the carriage and once we were both inside, the horsemen took off.
“Are we not going to wait for my lady in waitings or maybe a chaperone?”
“I thought it was better if it was just the two of us” he said calmly. I always wonder how that tranquil smile always makes me feel so at peace… We arrived outside of the modiste before he stepped outside and gave me his hand. I was a bit hesitant but I took it and he helped me off the carriage. We stepped inside to see the couturier waiting for us.
“Oh your majesty, I have your gowns right here and ready. Why don't you try them on?”
“Oh alright. I will."
I took the beautiful sparkly gown from the rack and went into the dressing room to try it. I donned it and walked out.
“It looks beautiful!” I exclaimed.
“You really do.” Todoroki mumbled.
“What was that, your grace?”
“Nothing I just said that it really does.” he said with a still smile. “Why don't you wear it for the rest of the day?”
“That's a great idea, your grace!” The modiste commented.
“Shall we, my imperial highness?”
“Don’t you mean your imperial highness?”
“I know what I said.”
‘It seemed a bit weird but since it's Todoroki then I doubt he means anything about it.’ I took his hand and he pulled me back to the carriage after we waved goodbye to the modiste. We continued on to many places after, for a few tiresome empress duties. But when the night hit, he led me to a beautiful place by a river. With a big cherry blossom tree in the middle, petals all over the ground, and a view of the night sky so perfectly clear that you could see the bright stars shining above.
“What is this place?” I asked in awe.
“This is my favorite place throughout the entire empire.”
He sat beside the tree and I followed suit, admiring the bright stars in the process.
“I know it's late but since you've been so busy ever since you became empress, I figured you would want to take a break and watch tonight's fireworks festival with me.”
I snapped out of my daydreaming and looked at him in confusion. “The fireworks festival is tonight?”
He giggled, “Yeah it is and since we always watch the festivals together every year when we were children, I thought you'd love it.”
I took a moment of silence, “I do. I really do.”
The fireworks took off one by one and we both watched them in astonishment. Smiling as if we have never seen such things before. This feels like an escape. An escape from the marriage that I was arranged to. An escape from the emperor that loves me not. An escape from the reality that hates me so.
That's what every moment with Todoroki feels like.
BANG!
The sound pulls me away from my train of thought. That's the sound of the festival’s largest firework.
“Wow! The view’s gorgeous!”
Todoroki looked at me smiling softly with that same sparkle in his eyes. “You really are.”
—---------------------------------
The sound of galloping horses stopped as we arrived back at the palace. He helped me out of the carriage with his usual hand behind his back.
“I had a great time tonight” I said.
“As did I, my queen.” Weird I couldn't catch that last part that he said but I brushed it off and we went our separate ways. As I was finished with changing into my nightgown, I heard a voice coming from outside and by the sound of it, it was my not so dear husband. I hesitantly opened the door and in he came.
“WHAT EXACTLY DID YOU DO WITH TODOROKI!?”
“K-Katsuki-”
“DON’T KATSUKI ME. PEOPLE IN THE KINGDOM SAW YOU TWO TOGETHER.” He pulled me closer and pinned me against the door. “Listen to me. I'm your husband. We are bonded by law. If I see you talking to another man, I'll personally make it known to everyone that no other man can speak to you besides me.” His breath feels like fire and his presence feels identical to an explosion, just like his quirk. After that he left the room just as swiftly as he came in, with a heart of rage and a mind fogged with anger. In all the time we've been wed, that's the most attention he’s ever had focused on me. I'm so sick of this.
‘Why does my heart beat for a man who barely acknowledges my existence? Why are my eyes on him when he has never had his eyes on me? Why is love so cruel? Why is-’
*Cough cough*
‘What's this… why am I coughing up petals..’
