Hospital Team 6

Summary:

Sacred Heart Clinic. A small but notable hospital in the San Fransokyo Bay Area. Subsidiary to Caduceus USA and proud training facility to up and coming medical students. Tadashi and Hiro Hamada have begun their lessons at Sacred Heart, ready to start preparing themselves to take on the world of medicine. Supported by their friends and personal medical team, they’re ready for anything… or so they think.

Chapter 1: Routine

Chapter Text

"Honey Lemon, status report."

"Last patient has been secured. They're all on their way to Sacred Heart as we speak. They should all be there in 10 minutes. Though more like 5 since Go Go is the one leading the charge."

"Of course."

Hiro Hamada chuckled, looking at the array of monitors before him. Reports of a major highway accident, maps of the city of San Fransokyo from various views and trackers on the ambulances that were making their way to his location gracing his eyes.

"I'll get all the staff assembled and ready to go then. Once you guys get in take a breather. You've all had a long day."

"I'm blaming Fred." Another voice, Go Go, chimed in. "He said the q-word."

"Hey! I was taken out of context!" Fred whined. "I was reading a comic!"

"You still said it in the stand by bay. You know how we feel about it!"

Hiro shook his head.

And I thought my family was superstitious…

"Ladies, you're all lovely but how about we focus on what needs to get done? People need us."

"Yeah, yeah, we're on it, Nerd." Go Go quipped. "You and Tadashi better be ready since some of these guys might need your treatments in particular."

"I'll get on it right now. Magnum, out."

Hiro switched off his monitors before rolling away from the desk he was at, spinning off his chair. The door to the base of operations opened automatically as soon as he got close enough, a harsh blue light flooding into the room. He winced, squinting, waiting for his eyes to adjust.

I really need to fix the lighting in this office or I'm going to wreck my eyes…

Before he left, he quickly grabbed his lab coat off his chair, hurrying out into the hallway. He quickly slipped his lab coat on as he dashed down the hallway, his body running on autopilot. He wasn't sure how many times he had done this now but he was sure it was a million by this point.

Just another day for those at Sacred Heart Clinic.

Proud supporters of Caduceus USA.

And proud doctors devoted to helping lives.

Be it masters… or newbies like Tadashi and me.

Hiro grinned as the sign for the emergency room came into view, a glint in his dark brown eyes.

Let's give it our all!

oooooo

Tadashi Hamada took a deep breath as he sat before the altar he had set up in his office… Well, more so their team's office. He would eventually get his own but being the new kid, he hadn't earned the right to his own place yet. Only reason his brother had a personal space was due to the fact it was the base of operations for Big Hero 6 and for tracking ambulances. Even then, Tadashi wouldn't call it his office. More like the control room for their paramedic team.

Regardless, he was okay being roommates with his team. They were his friends after all. Plus, it was a tradition at Sacred Heart that those who became members of the team of Big Hero 6 were to share an office as a means of bonding and becoming stronger.

Just how it is. As Dad intended when he founded the team. It's all about working as one.

He lit an incense, setting it into a vase by a small statue of Asclepius and Epione, the two gods having their hands intertwined as they looked at Tadashi with a gentle gaze, their free hands outstretched in a welcoming gesture.

Tadashi brought his hands together, bowing his head.

"Asclepius… Epione… Please guide me in what I need to do. We got a huge wave coming… and I want to give everyone coming here my best. Whatever be the will of life… I want to know what would be best for all. So, please… guide my mind."

It was silent for a moment before a loud knocking at the door roused him from his meditation.

"Bro? Are you in there? We need ya, like, NOW!"

Tadashi sighed, rolling his eyes.

Patience… He didn't know…

Tadashi gave one last bow to the gods before picking up one of the bracelets that was set in front of them. It was a green woven bracelet with a pentagram charm as the centerpiece, kanji decorating the band.

He tied it to his right hand, a gentle smile coming to his face.

May I make you both proud…

Tadashi hurried to the door, his brother waiting for him on the other side. Hiro had his arms crossed, his eyes narrowed and was currently tapping his right foot.

"About time. Were you sleeping?" Hiro asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Just paying respects." Tadashi chuckled, ruffling up Hiro's hair, immediately causing the teen to loosen up.

"HEY!" Hiro laughed, batting his hand away.

"One day I'll get you meditating properly." Tadashi grinned, making his way past Hiro.

"Yeah, yeah, when I don't have a million things to do." Hiro rolled his eyes, falling into step with his brother. "Seriously, the idea of stilling your mind is weird to me with the environment we work in."

"Yet it's possible. Just need to focus. Something I know for fact you're good at when you put your mind to it."

"I'm not the one treating patients so I don't think I really need to practice what you practice." Hiro shrugged. "I don't think god powers are going to help me with fixing machines. I'll leave all that wise sage magic stuff to you, Mom and Dad."

Tadashi shook his head.

Oh, if you only knew Hiro…

"Anyways, what's the situation?"

Hiro looked ahead, jamming his hands into his pockets.

"Five patients. Two critical and three stable. We've been requested to assist in treating one of the critical ones. They have severe damage to their hands and nerve damage is suspected. They want us to go in with our nanobots while the head doctor focuses on stabilizing. Sound simple enough?"

Tadashi nodded.

"Yeah. How's the team?"

"Tired. They'll be taking a much needed rest once the patients are in our care and out of theirs."

"Noted. And which doctor are we paired with this time?"

"Dr. Yoshida."

Tadashi couldn't help but smile at hearing that.

"Excellent. And will that be all?"

"Yeah. All the other patients have doctors assigned to them."

"Let's get ready then. Which operating room?"

"O.R. 4. I'll meet you there."

The brothers parted ways, Tadashi gunning for the emergency room. He could already hear the ambulances pulling in, their sirens echoing throughout the area.

There, he found Dr. Shiro Yoshida and a few others already hard at work at getting patients off the stretchers and onto gurneys, yelling orders and information to one another.

Shiro looked up, nodding to Tadashi.

"There you are. Ready for an intense case?"

Tadashi narrowed his eyes.

"Always."

"Good. Alright, everyone, to work!"

"Yes, Dr. Yoshida!"

Everyone scattered, heading for their respective treatment areas. Though before Tadashi could run off, a hand grabbed his arm, stopping him. He looked behind him, his brown eyes meeting with a set of hazel ones. The eyes of Aiko Miyazaki.

"Aiko…?" He managed to say, quickly looking her over.

Her uniform was plastered with some dirt and small traces of blood, indicating the rescue procedure had been a bit of a tough one. She smiled at him, despite how tired she looked.

"It's up to you now. Good luck."

She quickly kissed his cheek before letting go of his arm, going to join the rest of the paramedic team.

Tadashi smiled, feeling his cheek.

"Thanks…"

Shiro cleared his throat, catching Tadashi's attention. The young man jumped, whirling around. The doctor looked at him with amusement, chuckling.

"I appreciate how supportive your fiancé is but we have work to do."

"Y-Yes, Sir!"

Without another word, the two rushed to the operating room they were assigned to.

There, Hiro was finishing up prep work on IVs and various other equipment with Dr. Kim Aken and their mother, Maemi.

Hiro looked up, grinning.

"Good timing. We're all set to work."

"Excellent." Shiro's eyes narrowed into the serious gaze all at Sacred Heart were familiar with. "Let's get the patient on the table and make this quick. Maemi and Kim will help with the main treatments. Tadashi, work your magic on those hands."

Tadashi gave a salute.

"Yes, Doctor!"

Maemi gave Tadashi a smile and wink.

"Good luck, Dashi."

Tadashi smiled, nodding.

"Thanks, Mom."

Tadashi stepped aside, watching Shiro for a moment as he, Maemi and Kim began treatment on the bigger affected areas of the patients. It amazed him how fast they were, almost as if they had rehearsed it all. Then again… in a sense they had with how many times they had helped people. To them, it was just another day.

One day… That will be me.

Tadashi turned his attention away from them, hurrying to his brother. Hiro was stationed near the IV in a rotating chair, the teen cradling a laptop in his lap that was plugged into a small machine attached to the IV.

"Nanobots are all set and ready to dive in." Hiro said, not looking up, holding out a pair of glasses to Tadashi. "How about you, Bro?"

"As I'll ever be." Tadashi replied, slipping the glasses on, picking up a pair of controllers before sitting in the vacant chair next to Hiro. "Let's begin."

"Administering nanobots." Hiro hit the enter key on his laptop, an IV bag full of blue fluid releasing its contents into the patient. "Standby for visuals."

Tadashi nodded, focusing on the screen in his glasses. Within moments, the sight of being inside a blood vessel greeted his eyes.

"Visual online. Care to guide me where to go?"

"You got it, Tadashi. We're currently in the radial artery of the right arm. Just make your way down and we'll be in the right hand before you know it. We need to see how badly damaged the nerves are in the fingers themselves and within the wrist."

"On my way then."

Tadashi pressed the forward button on his controller, the nanobot he was piloting moving through the artery, a small string of other nanobots following behind him. Soon enough, they arrived at the base of the wrist, Tadashi cringing at the sight before him.

"Looks like there are breaks in the bones, arteries and nerve branches. Hiro, can you give us a dose of antibiotic gel to help jump start the healing process? I'll get everything aligned back in place and then you'll hit everything with a sealant. We need to act fast since I'm sure the left hand is probably in the same condition."

"I'm on it." Hiro rotated to the IV, switching in another bag with green fluid in it. "Deploying antibiotic aids. I'll focus on driving these bots. You keep leading your team."

Tadashi nodded, punching in commands with his other controller, directing bots to various tasks. From cleaning up hemorrhaging, to sealing off lacerations to finally holding things in place till the antibiotic aids arrived.

"Alright, everything set in place?" Hiro asked, his finger hovering over the enter key of his laptop.

"Yes. All loose branches, arteries and bones are fixed in place. Hit it with everything you got."

Hiro grinned, hitting the enter key.

"Bombs away!"

A green spray dispersed onto the affected areas, soon becoming a green sticky substance over the fractured pieces. Tadashi commanded his nanobots to pull back, smiling as he saw everything held in place.

"Alright, treatment of the right hand is complete. Let's move onto the left hand."

"Let's take a ride through the aorta. That will get us there the quickest."

Tadashi nodded, leading the charge. He had to admit, he got a bit of a thrill as his nanobot soared through the circulatory system once they reached the aorta. It was the fastest speed they could get up to naturally that wouldn't cause concern of possibly harming the patient.

Before long, they reached the left hand, repeating the same process as before. Double checking to be sure they hadn't missed anything.

Once all was said and done, Tadashi let out a relieved sigh, slumping in his chair.

"Treatment complete. Call back the nanobots."

"On it. You relax, Tadashi."

Tadashi closed his eyes, nodding.

Always killer on my eyes with these glasses… We need to adjust the screens.

Tadashi jumped as a hand was placed on his shoulder. He immediately removed his lenses, seeing Shiro was standing next to him, a proud smile on his face.

"Good job, Kid."

Tadashi gave a sheepish smile.

"T-Thanks, Shiro-sama…" Tadashi glanced at the monitors, seeing all vital signs read out as stable. "They're gonna be okay?"

"Yeah. Just fine with all we were able to do."

Tadashi sighed in relief, leaning back into his chair.

"Good… That's all I want."

"That's what we all want." Maemi said as she made her way over.

Shiro moved out of the way, allowing her to hug her son. Tadashi hugged her back, relaxing into her embrace.

"Rest easy now. You've done enough today."

Tadashi smiled, closing his eyes.

Happily.
