A Very Special Teddy Bear

Summary:

Daphne Greengrass had a secret she thought she had well hidden until one day her best friend Tracey accidentally discovers it a secret involving the golden boy, Harry Potter.

Work Text:

Tracey Davis was having a great day, she had been accepted into the Slytherim quidditch team and after taking a quick shower she ran to tell her best friend Daphne Greengrass, she ran into the dormitory towards her friend's bed, but she didn't see her so she was about to stop but she tripped over her own foot and fell on Daphne's bed, Tracecy's hand slipped under the pillow and felt something soft and curious she decided to pull out what was hidden under the pillow, then Tracey stumbled upon something she definitely didn't expect to find, it was a small teddy bear. But it wasn't just any teddy bear. This teddy bear had round glasses and a small lightning bolt shaped scar embroidered on its forehead.

"Could it be possible?" muttered Tracey to herself, moving closer to inspect the toy. Turning it over, she saw that the name "Harry" was written on the bear's neck tag. Tracey let out an incredulous giggle - Daphne Greengrass with a Harry Potter teddy bear? This had to be a joke.

As she held the bear, Tracey heard the bedroom door open. Daphne walked in and stopped dead in her tracks when she saw her friend with the teddy bear in her hands.

"Oh, uh, hi, Tracey!" said Daphne in an all-too-casual voice. "What are you doing here?"

Tracey raised an eyebrow and waved the teddy bear in the air. "I was just admiring your stuffed animal. It's very cute, isn't it? Although... doesn't he look a bit like Harry Potter?"

Daphne blushed and looked away. "That? Oh, that's not mine. I found it lying around and thought I'd take it to the lost and found"

Tracey smiled mischievously "Really? Well, then, I'll take it to lost and found myself. We wouldn't want someone to lose their precious teddy bear, would we?"

Before she could take a step, Daphne practically jumped up to stop her "No, don't, please!"

Tracey looked at her with a mixture of amusement and surprise "Oh, it's really not yours, huh?"

Daphne sighed, defeated, and lowered her head. "All right, all right, it's mine. But please don't tell anyone"

Tracey sat on Daphne's bed and placed the teddy between them. "Why don't you tell me about this? I'm fascinated"

Daphne took a deep breath and sat up as well. "It's not what it looks like. I don't have it because of what everyone says about Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived or the Chosen One or any of that nonsense"

Tracey nodded, waiting for Daphne to continue.

"I got him because... well, because I admire him from what I've seen of him, personally. He's brave, yes, but he's also kind and humble. I've seen how he behaves with his friends, how he helps others without expecting anything in return. At the Triwizard Tournament, for example, when he saved Fleur Delacour's sister he didn't even think twice about it. That's what really impressed me about him, besides the fact that he was the one who defeated the huge basilisk during the 2nd year"

Tracey laughed "we don't know if he was that big, if he snuck all over the school without anyone seeing him he must be pretty small"

Daphne replies "With the way he dealt with the dragon last year it's clear he has experience with large, deadly creatures"

Tracey looked at her, surprised "I never knew you noticed him so much"

Daphne shrugged "It's not something that comes up in everyday conversation in Slytherin, is it? But yes, I've noticed those things. And having this teddy... it makes me feel a little closer to that bravery and kindness. It's ridiculous, I know"

Tracey smiled and hugged her friend "It's not ridiculous at all, Daphne. We all need something to inspire us. And if that something is a little Harry Potter teddy bear, well then that's what it is. Your secret is safe with me"

Daphne smiled shyly. "Thank you, Tracey. You're the best"

"I know" Tracey said, winking at her "But you know what? From now on, this little 'Harry' is allowed to hang around here. As long as he doesn't start acting like a plucky Gryffindor like he's the real thing"

They both laughed, and the little teddy bear remained between them as a silent testament to admiration, friendship, and the little secrets that make life at Hogwarts so much more interesting.

After their conversation about the teddy bear, Tracey decided that her friend deserved the chance to get to know Harry Potter better, and she was determined to help her, and Tracey also owed Potter for saving her from the basilisk so what better reward than to get her a beautiful girlfriend.

A few days later, as they were planning their next tactic in the Slytherin common room, Tracey had a brilliant idea. "You know, Daphne. I think we should arrange a chance meeting with Harry. Something simple and no pressure"

Daphne looked at her skeptically "And how do you propose to do that? We can't just walk up to him and say 'Hi, Potter, would you like to meet Daphne Greengrass?"

Tracey smiled conspiratorially "Leave it to me. I have a plan"

The next day, Tracey and Daphne headed for the library. They knew that Potter and Granger used to study there on Wednesday afternoons. When they arrived, sure enough, they found them immersed in their books at one of the tables at the back of the library.

Tracey approached them with an expression of feigned concern. "Granger, I need your help. There's a problem with some first year students and as a prefect, you're just the person to solve it"

Hermione Granger looked up, concerned "What problem, where are they?"

"I'll explain on the way" Tracey said, leading her out of the library.

Harry Potter, surprised by the sudden interruption, stood alone at the table. Seizing the opportunity, Daphne shyly approached and cleared her throat "Hello Potter, would you mind if I sat down and studied with you?"

Harry looked at her a little hesitantly, but smiled kindly "Sure, Greengrass. Sit down"

Daphne sat down and pulled out her books, feeling nervous but excited. They began to talk about their subjects, and Harry was charming and attentive, as always. Gradually, the conversation flowed into more personal topics, and Daphne found herself laughing and enjoying Harry's company.

"And then Snape tripped and fell in the mud and made us swear we'd never tell anyone or we'd be grounded until graduation!" said Harry laughing

"What happened next?" asked Daphne excited by the conversation.

Meanwhile, Tracey had taken Hermione to a corner of the castle quite far from the library and tells her the truth. "There's no problem with the first year students. I just needed to get you away from the library for a while"

Hermione raised an eyebrow "What are you up to, Davis?"

Tracey smiled "Daphne's talking to Potter right now. I wanted to give her a chance to get to know him better, without feeling like she was under surveillance"

Hermione sighed, but a small smile tugged at her lips. "You're very astute, Davis. All right, I'll give them a little time, but not too much" And Tracey smiled.

After about twenty minutes, Tracey and Hermione returned to the library. To their surprise and delight, they found Harry and Daphne laughing together and sharing anecdotes. They seemed so natural and comfortable with each other.

"You know Potter you can call me Daphne" she said while politely as she pretended to read her book.

"Only if you call me Harry" replied with a smile.

Tracey winked at Daphne from a distance, and Daphne returned a grateful smile. Late in the afternoon, as Harry and Hermione said their goodbyes, Daphne turned to Tracey with sparkling eyes.

"Thank you, Tracey! It was... amazing. he's so nice and easy to talk to"

Tracey smiled broadly. "I knew it. And I'm sure this is just the first of many conversations. You deserve it, Daphne"

Temper at Hogwarts had changed considerably since Dolores Umbridge had increased her strict rules and the abusive authority of the new professor and High Inquisitor had created an atmosphere of tension and resentment, especially among students who valued justice and fairness. Draco Malfoy, protected by Umbridge, was taking every opportunity to pick on Harry Potter and his friends, which made Daphne increasingly frustrated and angry, she wanted to strangle that ferret for that and for daring to try to ask her sister out even though Astoria had already gently turned him down 7 times.

One evening, after witnessing another of Malfoy's annoyances towards Harry, Daphne had a brilliant idea so that Malfoy couldn't walk around without embarrassment. That night, using a duplicating spell, she created an exact replica of her teddy bear of Harry and discreetly slipped it into Draco's rucksack while he was distracted, as he had overheard her bragging about a piece of jewelry her father had sent her to give to Astoria Greengrass during dinner in the Great Dining Hall.

Later at dinner in the Great Dining Hall, Daphne sat with Tracey, watching as Draco strutted around, self-assured, surrounded by his minions. It wasn't long before Malfoy began hurling insults at Harry, who was sitting with Ron and Hermione at the Gryffindor table.

Daphne decided it was time to act. She stood up and, in a voice that resonated like that of an ice queen, said, "I've had enough of this, Malfoy!"

Malfoy turned, startled, to Daphne "What do you say, Greengrass?"

Daphne crossed her arms and continued, her tone cutting "I'm sick of you always looking for excuses to talk to Potter, It's just ridiculous"

Malfoy's expression turned furious "What are you talking about?"

"Come on, Malfoy. We all know the truth, There's even a bet involving half the school. They all think you love Potter"

The Draco's face turned red with fury and embarrassment "That's a lie!"

Suddenly, as if fate itself was on Daphne's side, Draco's backpack, which he had left open on the table, tipped over and out of it fell Harry Potter's teddy bear, with glasses and a small lightning bolt scar embroidered on his forehead being seen by all the students and even the teachers could see him perfectly well. Silence fell over the Great Dining Hall, as everyone stared in disbelief at the plush toy in the middle of the Slytherim table.

It was Astoria, Daphne's younger sister, who broke the silence with a cry of surprise "It's a Harry Potter teddy bear!"

The reaction was immediate. The Weasley twins started pounding the table with laughter, followed by many other students. The laughter echoed throughout the dining hall even some of the teachers laughed as Umbrigde couldn't believe what she saw, the Malfoy heir in love with Harry Potter, she knew she had to get Malfoy out of the inquisition, while Draco, his face red as a tomato, quickly gathered his things (the teddy bear too) and ran off, unable to bear the embarrassment.

Daphne watched it all with a satisfied smile, and when her eyes met Harry's, he smiled back with a mixture of gratitude and amusement. Hermione and Ron, who had also witnessed the scene, exchanged surprised glances and then looked at Daphne with renewed respect.

"Thank you" Harry murmured as he passed Daphne on his way out of the dining room.

"You're welcome" she replied, her voice soft but firm. He knew this was just the beginning of a change in the dynamic at Hogwarts. And as Draco Malfoy tried to recover from his humiliation, Daphne Greengrass felt stronger and more confident than ever, she felt capable of slaying 100 Dementors with her hands alone as Harry had done in his 3rd year, he told her it was the Patronus spell, but Daphne knows that's a lie, he's just being humble.

After Malfoy's humiliation in the Great Dining Hall, news of his Harry Potter plushie spread throughout the school like wildfire. Students from all houses were still laughing and joking about the incident, and Draco Malfoy had decided to stay out of sight for a while since he couldn't get near Potter without someone hissing or yelling "trouble in heaven, Malfoy?"

A few days after the incident, as Daphne was walking down one of the castle corridors, she ran into Harry. He greeted her with a beaming smile, and before she could say anything, he thanked her with warmth and pure honesty.

"Thank you, Daphne" Harry said, his voice full of sincerity "I don't know what we would have done without your help"

Daphne, surprised by his honesty, felt a warmth in her chest and blushed slightly "You're welcome, Harry, I'm glad I could help"

Harry then with a curious expression "But I have to ask you... where did you get that teddy bear that looks like me? It was a brilliant move"

Daphne's blush intensified, and pretended not to hear him, she looked away and quickly changed the subject.

"You know what, Harry? I was thinking we could go out to Hogsmeade this weekend. We could spend the day together, relax a bit outside the castle"

Harry, completely forgetting the subject of the stuffed animal, smiled brightly "That sounds great, Daphne! I'd love to"

Daphne was relieved and smiled back. "So, it's settled then. Meet me at the castle entrance on Saturday at 8, and Potter I don't like to be kept waiting"

Harry said goodbye with a smile.

When Saturday arrived, Daphne dressed neatly and made her way to the castle entrance, where Harry was already waiting for her. They spent the day exploring the stores of Hogsmeade, enjoying butterbeers at The Three Broomsticks and laughing together. Daphne felt on top of the world, enjoying Harry's company without the usual stresses of school.

As they walked back to the castle at dusk, Harry turned to she. "Thank you for today, Daphne. I had a really good time"

"Me too, Harry" she replied, smiling.

However, as they drove back to Hogwarts, a small voice in the back of Daphne's mind reminded her that someday, Harry might discover the truth about her teddy bear. But for now, she was determined to enjoy the moment and Harry's company, without worrying too much about the future.

And so, as the stars began to twinkle in the sky above Hogwarts, Daphne and Harry returned to the castle with the promise of many more happy days together ahead.

That night, Daphne returned to her dormitory with a smile that she couldn't wipe off her face. The day in Hogsmeade with Harry had been perfect, and every moment with him made her feel like she was walking on clouds.

After getting ready for bed, she crawled into her bed and pulled her teddy bear of Harry out from under her pillow. He looked at it tenderly and couldn't help but smile even more. She hugged the teddy tightly, feeling a comforting warmth.

"Today was amazing" Daphne whispered, as if the little teddy bear could hear her. "I can't believe I spent the whole day with Harry. It was even more wonderful than I imagined"

She closed her eyes for a moment, remembering the details of their day. The laughter, the conversations, the feeling of being close to him. With each thought, she felt happier and more confident that she had made the right decision in asking him out.

Daphne planted several kisses on the plushie's head, imagining she was kissing the real Harry. "You're so amazing, Harry" she murmured, feeling her heart pounding. "I hope there are many more days like this"

She hugged the teddy bear even tighter, letting the exhaustion of the day finally catch up with her. As she drifted into sleep, one last smile graced her lips.

The following Monday, Harry and Daphne were called to Snape's office. The Greengrass family, renowned for their mastery of Legeremancy and Occlumency, had been asked to help with Harry's special training, and Snape had decided that Daphne would be the best choice to teach Harry since they seemed to have become close and Daphne was sworn to keep the classes a secret. Although the idea of spending time together did not displease them, they both knew that the training would not be easy.

For several weeks, they practiced diligently in an empty classroom under Snape's occasional supervision. Harry improved markedly in his ability to close his mind, while Daphne proved to be a patient and skilled mentor.

One afternoon, while practicing, Harry cast a Legeremancy spell and, to his surprise, managed to penetrate Daphne's defenses. What he saw took his breath away completely: a clear and vivid memory of Daphne in her bedroom, cuddling and tenderly kissing a Harry Potter teddy bear, whispering sweet words to it before falling asleep.

Daphne blushed violently as she realized that Harry had seen her most private memory. "You...you shouldn't have seen that" she muttered, her voice trembling with embarrassment. She tried to turn and run out of the room, but Harry gently grabbed her hand.

"Daphne, wait" Harry said, his voice soft.

She froze, unable to look him in the eye, the flush in her cheeks so intense that she felt as if her face would burn.

Harry slowly turned her around to face her, not letting go of her hand "What I saw... Was one of the sweetest, most heartfelt memories I've ever seen. It made me feel something... incredible"

Daphne finally looked up, her eyes bright with emotion and embarrassment "Do you... you find that amazing, aren't you laughing at me?"

Harry smiled, a mixture of tenderness and amusement in his expression "Daphne, finding it funny that the ice queen has a teddy bear of me to sleep with is one thing. But what I really feel is... it melts my heart to know that you think of me that way"

Daphne felt a tear of relief slide down her cheek "I thought you'd find it ridiculous..."

"Not at all," Harry interrupted, shaking her hand tighter "In fact, it makes me feel even closer to you. And, Daphne, I also want you to know that I...I feel something very special for you, too"

Harry's words echoed in the air, filling the space between them with a warmth they could both feel. Daphne relaxed a little, her heart beating quieter, though still excited.

"Thank you, Harry" she whispered, a shy smile peeking over her lips.

Harry replied with a broad smile "Would you like to... talk more about this? Maybe after training, we can go for a walk and talk some more"

Daphne nodded, feeling happier and more confident "I'd love to"

And so, hands still clasped, they continued their training, knowing that they were beginning a new stage in their relationship.

A few days later, Daphne decided to do something special for Harry.

One afternoon, as they walked through the Hogwarts grounds together, Daphne handed Harry a small, delicately wrapped package. "I have something for you, Harry," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

Harry smiled, curious "What is it, Daphne?"

"Open it and see" she replied, biting her lip in anticipation.

Harry carefully tore the paper and, upon opening the box, found a teddy bear that looked just like Daphne. The teddy bear had the same color blonde hair and small light blue eyes that were reminiscent of hers. Harry burst out laughing, delighted "It's adorable, Daphne! I love it"

Daphne smiled, pleased with Harry's reaction "I thought you might need something to remember me by when we're not together"

Harry held up the teddy bear and, with a mischievous grin, kissed its little head "Thank you, Daphne. This teddy is lovely"

However, as Harry looked at the real Daphne, he noticed a slight trace of jealousy in her expression. Before she could say anything, Harry leaned over and kissed her on the lips, a soft kiss full of affection. Daphne, surprised at first, responded happily, closing her eyes and enjoying the moment.

"Is that better?" asked Harry, with a smile, after pulling away.

Daphne laughed softly, nodding "Much better"

That night, they both retired to their bedrooms with smiles on their lips. Daphne hugged her teddy bear of Harry's more affectionately than ever, planting several kisses on his little head before falling asleep.

Harry, for his part, realized that he had never had stuffed animals or toys and always wondered as a child how it would feel to sleep with them, now he could see if it was really as good as it seemed and lay in his bed with Daphne's teddy bear in his arms, feeling a comforting warmth. "Goodnight, Daphne" he whispered to the teddy before closing his eyes, and Harry slept peacefully as he hadn't since before the start of the 3 Wizards tournament last year.

The next day Harry woke up with an extraordinary energy, and it was the perfect Sunday to spend the whole day with Daphne, he hid the teddy bear under his pillow and went to get ready.

Meanwhile at Malfoy Manor, Voldemort woke up with an immense pain and tiredness that he never felt in his life, he looked at the calendar and saw that it was Sunday so he decided that today he would take the day off, the conquest of the magical world can wait until Monday he thought while went back to sleep hugging a Nagini stuffed animal.
