Chapter Text
A thousand years ago, the gods agreed to destroy Humanity. Suddenly Brunhilde, leader of the Valkyries, barged in and firmly stood against the collective wrath of the divine to invoke an ancient law known as Ragnarok. A series of one on one battles to the death between humans and gods. The battle ended with Humanity victorious, thus granting them another millennium of existence. However, that time has come to an end and the gods must decide if Humanity has learned from their collective brush against the Reaper's blade.
"Well everyone, it's good to see you again. Though I suppose we should skip the formalities and get straight to the point. Humanity has had their millennia of existence and now we must decide. Have they learned and grown enough during the last millennia to convince the gods to change their minds? Or are we still dead set on wiping them all out? Tell me your belief." Zeus finished speaking and looked around to see who would make the first argument.
SHIVA [CHIEF GOD OF THE HINDU PANTHEON]
"Humanity has truly excelled. I say let 'em live, the world's way better off with them around than without 'em."
TYR [CHIEF GOD OF THE NORSE PANTHEON]
"After everything they took from us in the last one, we're just gonna forgive them. Those humans must pay for the lives of the Aesir they butchered. Surely you Greeks get that right? Remember Poseidon, Heracles and even Hades!"
QUETZALCOATL [AZTEC PANTHEON]
"I must agree with the Norse Pantheon's Chief God. Humanity has shown time and time again that it can only cause misery and suffering to those around them. They do it for the most petty and unnecessary reasons as well. I say wipe 'em all out!"
APOLLO [GREEK PANTHEON]
"Why? Have you all gone blind? We all bore witness to everything Humanity had to offer. Remember just how brightly the Einherjar shined in that battle. I am shocked some of you could see that and still think of them as nothing but creatures to control."
As the gods argued on this, a certain god was watching this. He cupped his dark red hands together and hissed in anger at what he was hearing. He saw as the gods slowly started to sway towards the side of Humanity and understood if he didn't intervene, Humanity would be spared.
THE DEVIL [ABRAHAMIC PANTHEON]
Zeus called out "Now then, do we have a conse..." but he was cut off when that god spoke up.
"Objection! Have the gods lost their pride? They humiliated us! Made us the villains of their history, hold a parade every year to celebrate slaughtering the greatest of us. I'm certain the people of Helheim would love to butcher the humans for killing their king Hades, the people of Atlantis for the humiliating murder of Poseidon and of course the Norse Pantheon for their Chief God's death. Surely us divine beings understand we are simply superior to those things, don't we? Let us get this vote over with and massacre them."
The gods stood in silence as they absorbed what The Devil had said and slowly started to agree with him. The vote was cast and with over three quarters of the gods voting for Humanity's extinction, The Devil simply smiled.
Just then, the doors to the hall of Valhalla fell to the ground, completely sliced off their hinges. They slid down the stairs until they slammed into Zeus' feet. The gods collectively looked up to see just who dared to stand there. All of them could remember when Brunhilde had done this a thousand years ago. In the doorway stood a man in shining silver armour and holding a blade that glowed in the light of the sun outside.
"I see the gods are as hospitable as ever. Since so many of you seem to have no clue who I am, allow me to introduce myself. I am the king of the Einherjar, Arthur Pendragon, and I will now announce the start of the Second Ragnarok."
ARTHUR PENDRAGON [BRITISH]
Arthur stepped into one of the most important places in all of Valhalla. The home of the legendary god killers, the Einherjar, would be where Arthur found his first fighters.
"So, you're the new 'king of the Einherjar' huh? Quite a lofty title to give yourself." Arthur looked up and saw Buddha watching him from the rooftop. He jumped down what Arthur assumed was a hole in the roof and in seconds, Buddha opened the doors.
"Well, everyone else agreed with it, but I guess I should've checked with you. Sorry about that mistake." Arthur apologised to Buddha.
"It's cool, don't worry 'bout it." Buddha brushed the apology off before they got to the rest of the Einherjar.
"Alright everyone, with the imprisonment of the Valkyries inside Muspel we don't have Volund to rely on. Luckily, we have something else. My home, the British Isles, has 13 artefacts known as divine treasures. They're inferior to divine weapons but you should still have a chance at taking down a god with these. Now, can any of you use these?"
Jack the Ripper stepped forward and immediately grabbed the knife before walking away. Simo's eyes swept through the collection, searching for a gun, but came up empty. Qin grabbed the Whetstone and wandered over to where Jack was to compare their divine treasures. Sasaki and Okita both refused to use White Hilt so they were out. Eventually, the rest of the Einherjar had similar bad luck picking a treasure so it was only Qin Shi Huang, Jack The Ripper and Grigori Rasputin fighting.
Arthur thought for a moment. He already had fighters picked out, he expected more of the original Einherjar to fight again. He went to the Akashic Records to search for a new one when he was stopped by Buddha.
"Alright fine, let's go get our next fighter," Buddha told Arthur before walking away. Arthur followed him all the way to his garden when Buddha stopped, looked at the biggest tree there and yelled.
"'Ey Monkey boy, where's Trip? Need him for the Einherjar." Arthur watched as a man covered in golden hair swung down from one of the branches and pointed west before swinging himself back up. Buddha shouted his thanks before walking over. There, he found Tripitaka and Sandy eating some peaches. Tripitaka noticed Buddha and immediately jumped up to go greet them.
"Welcome back, Buddha. Given your human company, I'm inclined to believe that the vote went against Humanity." Buddha nodded to confirm Tripitaka was right and he sighed. Buddha then gestured to Arthur who stepped forward, with his hand outstretched. Tripitaka gasped before bowing.
"Greetings, great king. It is an honour to meet you. My name is Tripitaka and this man beside me is Sandy. How may we assist you?" Arthur was a little taken aback by how different he and Buddha were. He turned to Buddha, not believing this man could fight.
"Believe it or not, this guy is actually one of only three people to ever reach enlightenment," Buddha explained. Arthur decides to test this theory by using Excalibur to slash. Trip stayed perfectly still until the blade was just a few inches short of piercing his neck. Arthur stopped the blade and pulled it back before smiling.
"You knew I wouldn't hit you, didn't you?" Arthur asked him and Trip nodded.
As the Einherjar were adding their next member, The Devil had entered the garden.
"Sun Wukong, how would you like to fight for the gods?" The Devil asked him.
"Why would I do that?" Sun asked The Devil, clearly bored by this conversation.
"Because that pathetic whelp Tripitaka has decided he is great enough to join the Einherjar. Why don't you put him and the rest of Humanity in their place once and for all, sage equal to the Jade Emperor?" The Devil gave a convincing argument. Sun smirked and agreed to fight for the gods.
Soon, Arthur returned to see the other Einherjar he had selected had already arrived, along with someone new and unfamiliar to Arthur, casually talking to Qin. Arthur decided to talk to him.
"Xu Fu, meet Arthur, king of the Einherjar. Arthur, meet Xu Fu, someone I fully believe can beat even a Chief God." Qin introduced the two to each other before walking off.
"How typical of him. Seems even death didn't change the man. I am Xu Fu, the greatest alchemist to ever live. I may be unfamiliar to you and the rest of Humanity but I assure you that if you give me your trust I will create a miracle." Arthur didn't think for a second before agreeing.
"You have the courage of a knight, I can tell. You will truly be a worthy member of the Einherjar." Arthur knew Qin was right about this man.
As Arthur thought about the last fighter, he was barreled into by someone. He quickly recovered from the fall and got up to identify his attacker as Anubis.
"Come on, come on, come on! Isn't it obvious it should be me? I'm tired of being an 'ally of the Einherjar'. I wanna be a real Einherjar." Anubis pleaded. Arthur thought for a moment before adding Anubis' name to the roster and sending it to Heimdall. Since The Devil had completed his roster around the same time, Arthur decided to study it a bit. He saw it was full of big shot fighters that had a high chance of taking out Humanity. Divine revenge would be a grave threat, but Humanity would persevere.
