Work Text:
Children can be the biggest blessing to someone. They can give motivation to people on the brink of suicide. Many people say they could only love a kid that has their blood.
Kim Dan and Joo Jaekyung could never have had a child with both their blood, and it broke their heart every day. Until the day they decided to adopt a baby girl. They named her Kim Ailiseu.
She had beautiful jet black hair and fair skin. Her eyes were the color of caramel.
They raised her as if she was their own. They’d go on walks and play board games every evening. She had everything she could ever need. Two loving fathers.
Daddy and Dad, as she’d call them. One of them was kind and humble, and the other was strong. He would always check under her bed for monsters.
There would sometimes be nights where Joo Jaekyung and Ailiseu would watch a princess movie and end up falling asleep. Kim Dan smiled, putting a blanket over them and kissing their foreheads.
“Goodnight, my knight and princess.”
When Ailiseu was still very young, maybe 4 or 5, Joo Jaekyung would go to the gym on his rest days just to show her off in her pink tutu and hello kitty shirt.
She’d smile at the coaches and play games with Heesung and Yoongu. She would record music videos with the other members. When she got older, she made them all bracelets with their initials and the letters “BFFS”
There was never a day she felt unloved. As the only child of a gay couple, there was so much love left to give. Though not actually related to them, they shared many similarities.
She had the same kind eyes and personality as her daddy, and the same hair and braveness as her dad.
Everything had been fine until she turned 11. Her daddy had been having trouble breathing for a while, but nobody had ever thought anything of it. He was 43 now, after all. Nobody had expected it when he was diagnosed with lung cancer.
Her dad had tried everything to save her daddy, but nothing seemed to work. He passed away a few weeks before Christmas.
They spent the rest of that month preparing his funeral. She had never seen her dad that destroyed. He spent most of the day on his couch, playing videos of him and her daddy, before they adopted her.
She would spend most days in her room or out of the house. The house was now void of any laughter or warmth. Sometimes she swore she could hear her daddy.
They spent 4 years like that. Little to no communication. It hurt. She just wanted her dad back, and he wanted her, too.
One day, on April 14th, the day she turned 15. She walked downstairs, dressed in a pink dress. Just like the tutu she used to wear.
She walked up to her dad and tried her best to smile.
“Would you like to celebrate my birthday with me?”
Ailiseu would be gifted the necklace her daddy wore, and that was the best gift she could ever ask for.
After that day, they would celebrate everyday like it was their last. They vowed to never forget Kim Dan. The man who gave them life.
