Work Text:
The sleepy sun had almost fully set as its gentle rays sparkled across the river next to Wangshu inn and Hu Tao sleepily fished at the small dock opposite the inn. She slowly started dozing off as she usually does after a hard day of work doing boring paperwork at the funeral parlour.. and it certainly seemed like the fish were rather tired too since Hu Tao could barely even catch a single one!
Nevertheless, Hu Tao still enjoyed Liyue's calm atmosphere as she stared at the soft clouds in the sky,
analysing each one of them rather than focusing on what she was actually here to do.
Suddenly, there was a soft and quiet sound of footsteps. It was a familiar face.. Ganyu. Her fluffy baby blue hair appeared almost lilac under the warm sunset and her coral and golden eyes glimmered in the warm summer sunset.
"What brings you here secretary? Come to join my fishing ventures?" Hu Tao pondered in an almost drunken manner, glancing at Ganyu half asleep.
"O-oh yes.. I hope you don't mind if I join you, Miss Hu.." Ganyu nervously answered, anxiously looking to the side.
"Why of course you can? I'm the one who asked you in the first place." Hu Tao chuckled a little. She could tell Ganyu was insecure and of course, she understood, but she still found Ganyu's response kind of silly.
"Ah yes.. yes sorry," Ganyu fiddled with her hair, "How long have you been fishing out here?"
Hu Tao chuckled again, "I forgot honestly. Does it matter?"
"I guess it doesn't really.. I just can't help but worry about humans like you Miss Hu. After all, you are known to be rather reckless sorry I really couldn't help but-"
"Shhh.." Hu Tao lay a finger on Ganyu's lips, "Calm down.. you're too pretty to stress like this all the time. I'm surprised you haven't had a heart attack at this point."
-to be continued-maybe idk-
Ganyu certainly felt like she was going to have a heart attack right now. She was already not used to physical contact but most definitely not something like this! She tried to calm down though since she didn't want to have a meltdown in front of someone she barely knows.
Hu Tao quickly pulled her hand away as she sensed a sudden strong force coming from her light fishing rod. She grabbed that rod as tightly as she possibly could, pulling and pulling on it as if her life depended on it. Ganyu excitedly observed from beside quietly cheering for the tired girl.
Eventually the effort was worth it as a giant pufferfish came flying out of the water, falling onto the dock in front of the two girls.
"Yess! I could sell this for so much mora!" Hu Tao glared at the fish, starry-eyed and drooling at the thought of all the things she could buy with all that sweet, delicious mora, "I haven't caught anything anywhere this good all afternoon!"
Hu Tao then gave Ganyu a smug look full of mischief which unnerved Ganyu slightly.
"W-what is it M-miss Hu?"
"Oh you know. You know what this giant pufferfish means.. you're my lucky charm!" Hu Tao giggled to herself,
"I'm gonna bring you fishing with me all the time. We can be fishing buddies! Can we be fishing buddies? Say yes."
"O-okay? I could use someone to fish with.. even if I don't fish that often.."
"Oh that's fine.. or should I maybe say 'fin-e' since we're talking about fish?"
...
"Not funny?"
"Oh sorry.. I'm not very used to jokes." Ganyu gave a little laugh, trying to make the atmosphere less awkward.
They both stayed silent for a minute, Ganyu desperately avoiding eye contact while Hu Tao stared at the glittering dark sky.
The silence was then suddenly interrupted by Hu Tao falling asleep, leaning backwards and falling into the water causing a loud crash of waves in the water.
"AH! Mis- Hu Tao are you okay?!"
Since the water was shallow Hu Tao wasn't in any real danger but either way, she still bursted out laughing, barely concerned about her own safety.
"Miss Hu?"
"Can you just come help me?" Hu Tao stopped laughing and her face turned a light shade of pink. Ganyu hurriedly came sprinting down to Hu Tao, worried about her new friend's safety. Once Ganyu got to her she repeatedly asked her millions of questions in her usual panicked manner and helped her stand on two feet again.
"Oh Morax.. What do we do with you now? Maybe if I take you to the inn the people there could nurse you back to health and.." She went on to ramble on even further on what she could possibly do to help Hu Tao but the girl just insisted she was fine, but of course Ganyu couldn't possibly accept ‘just fine’ as an answer. In the end she just chose to carry the injured girl, even if Ganyu felt she might have been dramatising things. After all, it wasn't that big of a fall but Hu Tao was already fast asleep and it was quite late already.
