Pieces of Madness

Notes:

This is from the same story/world as "It Frightens Him". This one is about the character who is a sort of sympathetic antagonist? IDK if antagonist is the right word for them. Tyrrhiel causes a whole shit load of problems for everyone, but they don't really realize that what they're doing is bad.

Work Text:

Ten thousand years is a long time to be alone, and it’s been even longer for you.

You've only just managed to endure it, but by no means have you managed it gracefully. If you were broken before, now you are shattered, staring through the pieces of yourself as they break smaller and smaller. The only thing that keeps those pieces from falling through the cracks—the one thing you've held onto over the long millennia—is the rage burning inside of you that feels like the only thing left of the being you once were.

Those flames are the rock you cling to in this sea of madness you've fallen in—and they never lower, never go out. Not even the water can quench them—not even madness can make you forget what was done to you. If anything the water—the madness—is fueling the flames like oil to burn hotter and higher, growing to terrifying heights--so tall that you sometimes believe they will provide you with the means to reach the heavens so that the ones that dwell there might feed your hungry fire.

When that happens, you think maybe the heat will melt the broken pieces of your self back together, and you will find the peace you have so long craved.

What you don’t realize is that peace, for you, will never be attainable. It is something that you are no longer capable of. The fallen pieces of your shattered mind have gone far beyond the point where they can be gathered up and fitted back together. They are too small now, too broken, and too many of them have been ground to dust.

Even this revenge you have sought for so long will bring you only more of the same pain you feel now, but you’ll never realize that. You’ll keep going until all the worlds have fallen to your flames.

After all, there must be someone out there that can put you back together.
