Chapter Text

Tobio was by no means patient. He absolutely hated waiting and having his precious time wasted. If someone wasn't able to get on their designated place at the exact time, Tobio would instantly leave. No way would he wait for them.

But of course, it was a different matter when it comes to Shouyou, his best friend.

Shouyou and him already met way before they could even walk, being neighbors for years. They spent a lot of their important moments together that they were even closer to each other than to their own sisters. Heck, his first word was even "Sho."

He was a quiet kid, so different to his best friend who was a walking sunshine. Being older than him, Shouyou promised to always be with him. Now years after, even after being junior high schoolers and all, they were still practically joined to the hip. Where one went, the other would soon follow.

Tobio sighed and reached for his phone from his pocket. The time read 10:35. Another sigh escaped his lips. He had been waiting for 5 minutes already.

"Where's Shou? He's the one who told me to just wait at the café but he's the one who's not here yet?" Tobio grumbled, his brows almost connecting because of his frowning. "Did he watch scary stuff again and had trouble sleeping after?"

He wasn't patient and he would never wait for anybody but that was unless you're someone named Shouyou Hinata.

Two minutes passed by and he was really getting sulky. Why did Shouyou insist to meet up at the cafe when they could just go together? They were freaking neighbors.

"Stupid Shouyou."

"Ah, Tobi's getting cranky already in the morning."

A flop of orange hair went to his line of view as Shouyou sat at the vacant seat in front of him. His hair was a bit unruly, maybe from him rushing to get at the cafe.

He rolled his eyes and frowned. "Shouldn't you say sorry first before teasing me?"

Shouyou clasped his hands together and smiled apologetically. "Sorry for making you wait, Tobi. I had to help Natsu with her project first before I leave. Do you accept cookies as an apology?"

Tobio raised his hand to his best friend's hair, patting down the rebellious orange spikes. "Only if if they come with milk."

"Got it."

Shouyou smiled then left to order for their food, skipping his way towards the counter. It was obvious his best friend was in a good mood. Great even. You could actually see flowers and sparkles coming out of him if you just squint.

Despite his height being a head shorter than Tobio, Shouyou's presence was anything but small. He was loud. He talked a lot and moved a lot more. He was always all smiles but you can immediately tell if something was up with him. His eyes and face were a total mirror of what he feels. His cheerful mood was so infectious he was a literal hyper ball of sunshine. Not that it bothered Tobio. Not at all.

They have until 12:00 to spare before they meet up with their other friends, Kei, Tadashi and Yachi for lunch.

They were on their freshmen year when their little group was formed after a school activity. A surprising thing was that like Shouyou and him, Kei and Tadashi were also childhood friends. The four of them didn't actually get along that smoothly in the first especially with clashing personalities and all (read: Kei and Tobio) but two years has passed. A lot of things happened and he could say now, they were a pretty solid group.

For what felt like hours for Tobio, Shouyou finally went back to their table carrying a tray. He was about to get the cookies and milk from it but Shouyou beat him to it.

"Your cookies and milk, king," Shouyou joked then placed his own order of chocolate shake and a slice of cheesecake on the table.

"Ha. Ha." Tobio dryly laughed at Shouyou's attempt of teasing him by using the childhood nickname his sister, Miwa, gave him. He grabbed a cookie and took a bite from it. "Why are we having lunch with the gang again?"

Shouyou gasped and stopped sipping from his shake. "For real, Tobio," he deadpanned. "Did you not listen?"

"Who's Tobio? I'm not. I'm Tobi." When Shouyou's expression didn't change, Tobio sighed in resignation. "I did listen, okay? I just forgot. You know me."

Shouyou scowled at him but then grinned after. "Kei wanted to tell us something. Must be that important enough to treat us for lunch."

Tobio felt him buzzing in excitement and shook his head. "So a celebration, right? Hey, calm down, you're too excited it's infecting me already."

Shouyou just stuck out his tongue as an answer. "It's just that... Kei is so quiet and he does not share that much about himself. It's normal to be excited for it. I wonder what that could be."

He watched as Shouyou cut a piece of his cake and ate it. A smile instantly blossomed on his lips as he did a little dance.

He smiled then shook his head. The guy sure loved sweets.

"Well, that better be barbecue. I'm starving. These cookies just won't do."

"Uh, you know you can just get some of my cake if you want, right? Let's share, Tobi."

"With your enormous appetite, Shou, that wouldn't even be enough for you," he teased.

Shouyou's cheeks reddened. "You big oaf! I won't share even if you beg, remember that, Tobi."

Tobio spent the rest of their time apologizing and dealing with a sulking Shouyou.
