Work Text:

On hot summer days, beaches were usually packed shoulder to shoulder with people either swimming in the ocean, eating ice cream, or just sunbathing. Today, however, one beach was an exception. Instead of crowds of people, the beach was filled to the brim with cute smallish creatures with ears similar to those of a donkey. Those creatures are called Sincroknights, fierce warriors and loyal protectors of the leader of a criminal organization called the Sindicate, Sayu Sincronisity. Yesterday they fulfilled a very important operation and although it was a tremendous success it left them all exhausted. And so Sayu decided to take all of her little soldiers on a mini holiday to the beach, both as a celebration and a reward.
Even without a reservation, they had the entire beach all to themselves, although they didn't chase anyone off either. When they all arrived in the early morning, everyone already present on the beach simply got up and left on their own. Neither Sincroknights nor Sayu were sure whether it was due to them being afraid of the Sindicate’s presence, due to the sheer number of them, or because they simply didn't want to be around them. Either way, they didn't care. If they got to have the entire beach all for themselves they certainly wouldn't complain.
And so once they all unpacked their loungers and parasols they went off to do whatever they wanted. Some set up a net for a friendly match of beach volleyball, others immediately jumped into the sea, and since the beach had been abandoned even by its staff, some Sincroknights volunteered to substitute for them, so that the lifeguard seat wasn't empty and the bar remained operational.
One Sincroknight was simply lying in his lounger sunbathing on his own. Although he loved all his brethren, just like every other Sincroknight, when it came to relaxing he was the happiest when alone. He was very close to drifting off to sleep when suddenly a volleyball ball landed right on his stomach, pulling him out of his nap and making him sharply exhale. Turning around to see where the ball came from he spotted 4 other Sincroknights running towards him with worried faces. They immediately apologized to him and explained that a particularly fast smash got deflected in such a way it flew far enough to land on the unlucky Sincroknight. He just chuckled and threw the ball back to his friends who thanked him before running off. The Sincroknight saddled back into his lounger and took in the view. A few meters off the shore swam a light blue floatie in the shape of a magatama and relaxing on it was Sayu. Just then the Sincroknight wondered how long was Sayu out there. A few hours maybe? The sky was without a single cloud so the Sun was shining nonstop directly on her. Surely after such a long time Sayu was thirsty and knowing her, she was too lazy to go back to the shore in order to get a drink. And so the Sincroknight quickly made his way towards the bar that was thankfully fairly empty and bought a raspberry drink. He then quickly put on his swimming goggles with a snorkel and a pair of orange floaties. He of course knew how to swim, but considering he had to carry the drink with him without spilling it, it seemed like a necessity.
Once he reached Sayu's floatie he rested his upper body on its edge so that he could take a breather. Thanks to his low weight he didn't have to worry about flipping over the floatie. The Sincroknight then gently poked Sayu's cheek trying to wake her up. Slowly squinting her eyes Sayu yawned and gave the Sincroknight a gentle smile. Once the Sincroknight handed Sayu her drink she fully opened her eyes and let out a little gasp. She beamed a huge smile at the Sincroknight and gave him a peck on his forehead. Sincroknight’s face turned red and if he wasn't propped on the floatie he would've sunk under the surface. Sayu giggled at Sincroknight’s reaction while she took her drink from him and immediately took a big sip with the straw prepared for her in it. Regaining his composure the Sincroknight also gave his boss a little smile before turning his head to look back at the beach and all the Sincroknights having fun. He turned to face Sayu again only to see her also looking at the beach with a warm smile on her face and slightly teary eyes. Everyone knew that the Sincroknights loved Sayu like no one else, but there were moments that made it abundantly clear that Sayu genuinely loved all of her Sincroknights back. Seeing her so happy and thankful while watching her followers just enjoying themselves and having a good time was definitely one of those moments. The Sincroknight next to Sayu realized that and his eyes started watering as well. Noticing this Sayu shook her head a little to stop both her and the Sincroknight's tears from spilling out. On this day there was no place for tears.

“C'mon. Let's go back to the shore.”

Sayu softly commanded. The Sincroknight nodded and swam behind her in order to push her towards the seabank. Sayu also got off the floatie and helped the Sincroknight by dragging it with him. Once on land, they put the floatie away and laid down on their towels. Even after taking a quick nap while drying off they still had half of the day left to spend on the beach with the other Sincroknights.
