Work Text:
Nami decides to take him sailing one day early after they’ve declared themselves to be an official couple. Of course, with all his years as a senior Straw Hat Pirate crew member, Sanji has learned how to adequately sail as he obviously needs to know how to turn between port and starboard, especially during escapes from the Marines. Nami had early on instilled the lessons of port versus starboard, how to use the rudder, and a few other “must knows” for sailors because she learned that none of the boys knew anything about sailing the high seas. How they had managed to sail to Coco Village to save her from Arlong Park all those years ago still mystifies her…
The sun is just starting to rise and Sanji and Nami step onto the small sailboat she plans to teach the cook to sail with. As the sky slowly starts to fill with orange, pink, and purple, Sanji grabs Nami’s hand, squeezing it gently but assuredly.
“What a beautiful sight, spending the sunrise with my sweet,” Sanji softly says, cradling Nami’s cheek in his other hand.
Nami beams, her smile rivaling the sun as she casts off their lines, untethering the two of them from the Thousand Sunny and the Straw Hat crew for a few hours.
To his credit, Sanji learns quickly. He, of course, chalks it up to the experience of his teacher, but Nami can see his desire to learn and motivation to better his sailing skills. Together, they learn that Sanji loves to sail fast, unfurling the whole sail more often than not, the wind catching them and propelling the little sailboat further away from the Sunny. Each time the navigator and the cook scramble to the other side of the sailboat, opposite the sail to distribute the weight, they share a small kiss. After a few hours of sailing, Nami drops the sail, bringing them to a stop. Nami and Sanji lie on their sides, facing each other and kissing as the waves lap alongside the sailboat.
“I think I like sailing,” Sanji admits.
“I bet you do,” Nami teases, immediately kissing Sanji passionately on the lips, eliciting a small moan from the cook’s lips.
