Mary and Kieran’s gazes were locked together, their focus so steeled that the crowd cheering around them registered only as a dainty whisper. Foolishly, Kieran decided not to Terastalize his last Pokémon, Hydrapple, for some reason. This gave Mary the opening she needed.
“Ice Punch!” Mary roared, her stance more rigid than Amarys’ on a bad day.
The red-and-white Grapploct quickly slammed one of its now-frosty arms into Hydrapple, knocking it out in a flash. The two trainers hastily returned their Pokémon as the battle’s winner was decided.
“Aw man…” Kieran sighed. “Even your friends are as strong as you!”
