Let's Spend What We Have Left Together

Summary:

Before their final fight with Galaxia tomorrow, Usagi and Seiya decide to spend their time together and make a promise to each other to make it out alive. They do have plenty of other dates to go on after the fight after all.

They also slow dance on Usagi's balcony.

Notes:

Hello ! I'm surprised how fast I got this fic done, to be honest. I love SeiUsa in the final season of the 90's anime so much, so I decided to write a fic about them.

Also, let's pretend that she broke up with Mamo or something before he d worded. I'm sorry I love UsaMamo but ONLY in the Manga/Crystal. I can't stand UsaMamo in the 90's anime for very obvious reasons.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Laid back on her bed, staring at the ceiling, with her eyebrows furrowed and lips pursed, thinking so many negative things that could happen tomorrow. So much has happened since she became a Sailor Guardian, so many tough battles she’s faced. Even though there have been a lot of ups and downs, she wouldn’t trade anything for the life she has. She’s grateful for all the friends she’s made through this journey, thankful that her life wasn’t so boring.

With her mind going elsewhere, she didn’t hear the knocking coming from downstairs. She was having so many negative thoughts running through her head, overthinking that she and the other Sailor Guardians, the Starlights included, wouldn’t make it. That this just might be the last time that they will see each other and fight alongside each other.

She was thinking some positive things, but if there was a battle between her thoughts right now, it would’ve been the former. Her thoughts finally went out of her head when she heard something hitting her balcony window. Her head turned as she was laying down, seeing who or what was outside on her balcony.

Seiya.

That’s who she saw. She never thought she would ever fall in love with someone like him, but she did. She felt like she could be herself around her, be just as playful, and no matter what they did together, she was just happy to spend time with her. Even when he did cheesy things such as standing right outside her balcony window, tilting his head wondering what was wrong with Usagi.

Usagi was elated that Seiya was here, because maybe she can try to get her mind out of all of the gloomy thoughts out of her head. When she finally got up off her bed to go slide the screen door open, she saw that Luna was still asleep on the other side of the bed.

Usagi tip-toed to the screen door and slowly slid it open, poking her head out and smiling softly towards her girlfriend. “Hey, bunhead. You doing okay? You looked like you were thinking hard back there,” He asked curiously, smiling back at her but also showing a look of concern from her eyes.

Her whole body finally came out, and Usagi scratched the back of her head, smiling nervously. She didn’t want to burden him with her thoughts, Seiya was already going through his own problems, and she didn’t want to worry him more. “It’s nothing, don’t worry about it,” She reassured him quietly, smiling at him. That seemed to make Seiya’s smile vanish slowly and gave her a serious look.

“Usagi,” Seiya said assertively, holding both of her hands. “Please, tell me what’s wrong?” Usagi hummed and looked down to the ground, trying to form her words… but she couldn’t. Her throat felt like it was closed, like she wasn’t even allowed to speak. She felt a hand cup her right cheek and stroked it softly. She brought her left hand to her left cheek, and felt herself crying.

When was she crying? Why is she crying? “I’m sorry,” Usagi croaked. Seiya shook her head and wrapped her arms around Usagi. He’s still not used to seeing her like this, he’s so used to seeing her shine brightly, encouraging others, and being kind to everyone. “No, don’t be,” he whispered lowly. “But I wanna know, what’s wrong? You don’t have to put on a brave face for everyone, bunhead.”

“I’m just…” She whispered, “I’m just a bit nervous about tomorrow, that’s all. I’m worried about what’s going to happen, I’m worried that we won’t make it. Just thinking about it right now is making my stomach turn, I’m afraid that if we don’t make it, that’ll be the last time we’ll see each other. We won’t remember our last moments by living in our regular lives.”

“And I’m so grateful for all of you. Each and every one of you has made me so happy, all of you made me look forward to every other day. I look forward to every day, because I get to see you and the others.” Her voice croaked yet again and her eyes went glassy, brimming with tears and held onto Seiya tightly. “I don’t want to lose any of you! You all mean so much to me and I don’t want to lose what we all have.”

Seiya frowned, looking down at his girlfriend. He kissed the crown of her head and held her closer; Usagi sobbing quietly in her arms. “Listen to me, okay?” He pulled back and encouragingly smiled at her, rubbing her shoulders softly. “Let’s make a promise to each other!” She exclaimed.

Usagi tilted her head confusingly, “A… promise? A promise for what?” Seiya jokingly scoffed and softly bonked her head. “A promise that we will come back, that we will spend so much more time together when we get back,” He winked at her and brought her pinky up.

She hummed, thinking it through. She mirrored Seiya’s expression back at her and nodded, both pinkies intertwining. They took their hands back and kissed each other sweetly. Seiya put her arms around Usagi and swayed with her slowly. They pulled away and gave each other a tender look.

Usagi’s left hand intertwined with Seiya’s right, following his rhythm. “You’d always shine so bright, just like a little star… I felt my heart ignite every time you smile,” Seiya sang in a whisper. Usagi smiled warmly at him, starting to feel the sorrow that she felt earlier slowly fade away.

She wanted to stay like this forever, Seiya thought. There was no danger going on, they didn’t have to worry about fighting Galaxia right now, they had the whole night to spend with each other. Just them two, slowly dancing being bathed in the moonlight.

“I’m sorry you felt that way, by the way. We’ll both make it- No, all of us will make it tomorrow. You know you don’t have to hide your emotions from me. And after all of that, we can spend as much time as you want.” He kissed her temple as they continued swaying.

“I love you, Usagi. And I’ll do whatever it takes to protect you.” That line alone made her think back to when they were on the plane and it was revealed that Usagi was Sailor Moon. When Seiya revealed that he was Sailor Star Fighter because she didn’t want to see Usagi get hurt.

“Seiya,” she called. Seiya hummed, seeing that his girlfriend was starting to look tired. She looked up, her eyes wet, giving her a solemn smile. This whole moment felt so bittersweet, both of them not moving a muscle. “I’ll see you tomorrow?” She asked Seiya sorrowfully.

Seiya leaned down and kissed her cheek, “I’ll see you tomorrow, bunhead.” As he was about to get back down on the ground, he looked back at her love and waved.

Usagi sighed and went back into her room, and she felt a lot more calm than she did before Seiya appeared. She got back into her covers and fell asleep peacefully.

It was the day after all of the Sailor Guardians and Sailor Starlights transform, Sailor Moon and Star Fighter smiled confidently at each other, knowing that they will all be okay.
