When Kaori Tanaka awoke, she was tied to a bed in a dark room. There was an immediate, frantic struggle to free herself from her tight bindings, but she quickly realized she'd sooner bruise her body into uselessness than actually manage to loosen her restraints or wiggle herself free.
"Oh, you're awake now~!"
Immediately, Kaori recognized the voice as belonging to Megumi Shimizu. Megumi, her closest friend, who had died months before. Megumi, who had risen from the grave as a vampiric monster. Megumi, who had attacked her family, leaving her alone.
"You really shouldn't have been out so late. You were so easy to find, coming home from the temple," Megumi continued with a sadistic giggle. Megumi's eyes must have opened only then, as Kaori then noticed two glowing red circles in the dark. "Look at you now, tied up and defenseless."
"Megumi-chan?" Kaori asked, trying not to let her fear color her voice. She was failing, her words quivering. "Why are you doing this?"
"Why, hmm? I suppose the easy andswer would be to say I hate you, but it's more complicated than that," Megumi admitted, crawling onto the bed Kaori was tied to and straddling her. She looked directly into Kaori's eyes as she spoke. "In truth, you've always had this annoying beauty. Something natural, something I'd have to put work into achieving. You just have it inherently."
It wasn't that Megumi disliked using makeup. Frankly, she loved it, it made her feel pretty, and she did it only for herself. It was less Kaori's beauty in and of itself that angered Megumi, and more how Kaori never nurtured it.
"Even when dirty and sweaty, you're always so damn pretty, and I can't help but love it. Do you know how annoying that is?" Megumi trailed a finger along Kaori's face, dragging it down to her neck. "I wondered how pretty you'd look completely under my mercy. I'm happy to say, the answer is delightful."
"O-Okay, I... Why target my family? Why do all of this?" Kaori asked, tears welling in her eyes.
"Well, I figured it'd be much easier to bring you over to my side if your family already was, for one," Megumi answered with an audible smirk. "I missed you, really. Yoshie, one of the people at the Kirishiki Manor, said you were getting close to Yuuki, but I've known for a long time that you only like girls. Still, it was a great excuse~!"
The sing-songy way in which Megumi spoke terrified Kaori. She couldn't exactly poke a hole in anything Megumi had said, and the notion that this was something planned by several people? What chance did anyone in Sotoba stand?
"And perhaps most importantly, I love you," Megumi concluded. " I love you in a way that makes me want to hurt you ."
"Please, don't," Kaori pleaded. Her pleas fell on deaf ears.
Megumi lowered her head to Kaori's neck, lips placing a gentle kiss on her tender skin. Then, without warning, fangs violently ripped into Kaori's flesh. She opened her mouth to scream as excruciating pain soared through her body, her throat burning in agony, but Megumi placed a hand on her mouth to muffle it.
As Megumi began to drink Kaori's blood, Kaori began to cry. The skin of her neck ripped had open, and she could feel the very essence of her life draining from her body. Tears raced from her eyes as her muffled screams failed to reach anyone. The pain was like nothing she'd ever felt. White, hot agony seared her nerves. She wanted so desperately for it to end.
Eventually, it did. Megumi pulled away and licked her lips.
"Delicious," the vampire cooed, using her thumbs to wipe away Kaori's tears. "It makes me want to drag this out as long as possible."
Megumi stepped off of the bed and walked towards what Kaori could only assume was a door. She was left still crying, even as the bleeding had stopped, from phantom pain and abject terror. Megumi stopped and turned to face her again.
"I'll be back to bring you something to eat and drink. Wait for me, okay~?"
With that, Megumi exited the room, leaving Kaori alone.
