Emma Swan and Regina Mills, two iconic figures of Storybrooke, had finally found a moment of calm in their tumultuous lives. Henry was at a friend’s house, and the two women had decided to spend a quiet evening at Regina's home. Emma had brought a video game, a horror game she thought would be fun to share.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Regina asked skeptically, looking at the game cover. "I’m not particularly fond of these kinds of things."
Emma smiled, turning on the console. "Don’t worry, Regina. If it gets too scary, we can always stop. And besides, I'm here to protect you, right?"
Regina rolled her eyes, but a smile formed at the corner of her lips. "Very well, Swan. Let's see what you’ve got."
The game started slowly, with a creepy atmosphere and strange noises that made Regina shiver. She tried to remain stoic, but every time a creature jumped out of nowhere, she couldn’t help but flinch. Emma, on the other hand, seemed perfectly at ease, laughing softly each time Regina showed signs of fear.
"You're making fun of me, Swan," Regina grumbled after yet another jump scare.
Amused, Emma paused the game and turned to Regina. "Not at all. I just find it adorable how you react. It’s… human."
Regina crossed her arms, trying to mask her embarrassment. "I’m not used to these kinds of things. Magic and curses are one thing, but these digital monsters…"
Emma moved closer, placing a comforting hand on Regina’s arm. "Hey, it’s normal to be scared. Even the Evil Queen has the right to have her weaknesses."
Regina looked at her, softened by Emma’s words. "Thank you, Emma. I suppose I can let you be the brave one for once."
Emma laughed softly. "It's a deal. Now, do you want to continue, or would you rather do something else?"
Regina hesitated for a moment, then smiled. "Let’s continue. I want to see how it ends. But if I have nightmares tonight, you’ll have to chase them away."
Emma nodded with a reassuring smile. "Promise."
They resumed the game, Emma playing and Regina watching, sometimes hiding behind a cushion during particularly scary moments. By the end of the evening, despite the fears and screams, they found themselves closer, sharing laughter and unexpected moments of camaraderie.
When the game finally ended, Regina sighed with relief. "I have to admit, that was more intense than I imagined."
Emma turned off the console and faced Regina, taking her hands in hers. "You were brave. And you know, you don’t have to face your fears alone."
Regina felt her heart warm at those words. "Thank you, Emma. It's good to know you’re here."
Emma smiled gently, her gaze becoming tender. "I will always be here for you, Regina. In the scary moments and the good ones too."
Their faces were now very close, and Emma could feel Regina’s warmth against her. Slowly, she leaned forward, hesitating for a moment before capturing Regina’s lips in a soft yet passionate kiss. Regina responded with the same intensity, their fears forgotten in this moment of connection.
When they pulled apart, Regina murmured, "I think I could get used to this kind of comfort."
Emma smiled, gently caressing Regina’s cheek. "Me too."
They settled comfortably on the couch, Emma wrapping a protective arm around Regina. The night was calm, and the silence was punctuated only by the sound of their steady breathing.
"Emma," Regina said softly, breaking the silence. "Thank you for tonight. Even if the game terrified me, I’m glad we did it together."
Emma kissed the top of Regina’s head. "Anything to see you smile, Regina. You know, facing fears together makes everything easier."
Regina looked up at Emma, a glimmer of gratitude and affection in her eyes. "I guess I still have a lot to learn about trust and love. But with you, I feel ready to try."
Emma hugged Regina a little tighter. "We have all the time in the world. And I'll be here every step of the way."
The night went on, and the two women, enveloped in the warmth of their newly confessed affection, found unexpected peace. Together, they knew they could face any challenge, real or digital, as long as they had each other.
Thus, a new facet of their relationship developed, proving that even amidst darkness, there was always room for light, love, and comfort.
