Once resurrected out of thin air, Zamasu and Goku Black are forced to fall back from their original plan and revise a new approach.

In the meantime, they explore new paths.. not only in the new world, but, in themselves as well.

Chapter 1: Rebirth

Chapter Text

Darkness.

Deep, vast darkness.

That’s all Black saw. The coldness of whatever void he was. Unable to move.. unable to speak… it was mind numbing. Memories of failure replaying in his mind. The pain of it all, both mentally and physically.

He remembered those last moments clearly. The fusion that had purely corrupted him and his other half. The sword that cut them into two. The humiliation of it all. It was the only thing on his mind.  Anger were the only things he felt in that void of nothingness. Anger and longing. Days. Weeks. Months. Years. Time was not real no longer, nor was nothing else.

It was lonely.

Isolating.

Cold.

Suddenly, from the darkness of his mind,  a muffled voice spoke to him.

Zamasu?”

Huh…?

Zamasu!”

Black found it hard to open his eyes. The blinding light made it nearly impossible. However, from that light, he saw a blur speaking to him from above. A green blur. A familiar face begun to reform, one that he’s seen numerous of times.

”Can you hear me…?”

Staring down at him with concern etched on his cold face was Zamasu. Knelt beside him with a palm on his chest, as if checking to see if the other God was still kicking. The false Saiyan’s heart had a beat, which was reassuring, at least.

A low grunt left his lips the second he sat up. He rubbed his head, which throbbed. Zamasu scooted away ever so slightly, giving Black room to fully wake up. A few moments of consciousness past before Black’s dark eyes widen big.

He was alive.
No.. him and his other half were alive. Why? He didn’t care. Not yet. All he could think of right now was..

“Zamasu!” The false Saiyan yelled, practically yanked Zamasu into a tight embrace. His silvery eyes widen upon gettin squeezed but, returned the gesture by holding Black close.

The two relished in each other’s arms. Black gripped his grey coat, as if afraid he’ll lose his other self again in the void. Meanwhile, Zamasu buried his face into Black’s shoulder. It was clear they both experienced the same fate. Of course, they did. They died together. Not as individuals but as one being entirely. Now.. they were together, at last. Holding back tears of joy while in each other’s arms.

After what felt like eternity, Black pulled away from the embrace to properly look at Zamasu. His serious face dropping into a wide smile.

”I thought I’d never see you again! Haha!” He exclaimed, shaking his partner’s shoulders excitedly.

”Enough with the shaking!” Zamasu replied out, startled by the sudden shake.

Black laughed sheepishly before promptly letting go of the shinjin’s shoulders, who rubbed his shoulders with a frown. “Apologies.”

Now that their warm greetings were made, the two finally took the time to venture their gazes on their surroundings. Seems they were in the middle of a forest of sorts. Trees scattered everywhere, the ground covered in grass, dirt and dried up leaves. The lights that once blinded Black were peeking through the tree branches and leaves. Casting upon the two divine beings.

”…Zamasu? Where.. are we, exactly?”

“A forest. Obviously.”

Black gave him a dirty look, wrinkling his nose up in an annoyed manner.

”Haha. Hilarious.”

Zamasu returned the look right back.

”Well, what do you expect from me? I only woke up a minute after you, fool.”

…Well, he had a point. It was a dumb question to begin with. He scratched the back of his neck, before returning back to taking in their surroundings. They were alone, with no other being in sight. Slowly yet surely, Black stood up from the ground. Helping Zamasu up with a hand as the two embraced this weird situation.

”It looks just like Earth.” Zamasu pointed out.

“That it does.” Black replied. The same planet they succumbed on. How ironic. “Perhaps.. we’re in a new timeline of sorts? There’s no other logical explanation than that.”

“Hm..” Zamasu’s mouth moved to the side in thought. No.. that couldn’t be it. Though, it’s their lead for now.  As the two came to their senses fully, Black slowly begun to remember the past. The mortals who cursed them this fate. With pride like Black’s, he couldn’t have been his fate. Him and Zamasu did the right thing, didn’t they? Their hearts were pure. It was all in the name of justice, wasn’t it? It was that foolish Trunks… and those damn Saiyans. Just the thought of them made his blood boil.

It was their fault. That’s how he saw it.

”Whatever. Doesn’t matter. I’m going to find those damned sinners and make them pay.” His voice was laced with pure venom. He tried to storm off, but his wrist was quickly grabbed by Zamasu.

”Not so fast.”

Their eyes locked. A clash of stern and aggression connecting from gaze to gaze.

“What are you doing? We have to find them!”

Zamasu eventually lets go of his wrist, before putting his hands on his own hip. “We aren’t even sure where we are! Hell, we just awaken from death and your first instinct is to run off to fight?”

“Obviously! What else?”

”I don’t know, perhaps THINK before ACTING?”

Black scoffed. He hated it when Zamasu was right. Even if they were the same being, Zamasu proved time and time again that he held the intelligence… most of the time, anyways. They will shared a mind and soul.. so, he was bound to have his moments.

“Well, what do you insist we do, then? Huh?”

The green Kai gestured towards the open woods.

”I say we explore this new territory. We need time to think. Revise our plan.” He paused, a solemn tone overlooking his usually mundane norm. “This could be our second chance. We need time.”

Those words were enough to get through to his counterpart. Black’s narrowed eyes softened at that revelation.

“A second chance..” He repeated it quietly to himself.

Could that be it? Their redo button? But, how? What prompted it? What caused their lives to be restored so quickly? All those questions seem like they wouldn’t be answered until later down the line. Right now, they needed to plan for their present. The utopia they shared will forever be in their minds, but, it was clear they needed some sort of break. Time to reflect and settle. After all… they were erased out of existence only so recently.

”Alright.” Black folded his muscular arms and sighed. They needed time. Just as Zamasu said. “Then, that shall be our plan. For now.”

Zamasu offered a subtle smile. The first in a long while. ”Grand. Now… shall we?”

With a nod, the two ascended upwards. Soon, they were above the green trees. The land was vast of it. It reminded them of their former home they shared for temporarily. At least, they had that going for them.

That was… until Black spotted something off in the distance. Something… that made his eyes light up.

”Hey, Zamasu…”

”Hm?”

With a gentle hand on his other half’s sharp cheek, Black slowly turned Zamasu’s head towards a building. Not just some building, a cabin. Far smaller than their old hideout, but, very similar regardless. Now, it was Zamasu’s turn to have his eyes light up.

”Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”

They gave each other a cheeky grin. A silent agreement being made, not needing any words to understand. They knew exactly what to do.

And with that, they sped off to that building. Racing each other to see who can reach it the quickest. Eager to seek if it holds up approval. If they were going to be glued to this world, they needed a hideout.

A home, even.
