Chapter Text
“On behalf of all teachers and myself, I am happy to welcome you all back to a new year here at Merlin Academy.” The old wizard started his speech with a large smile on his face, that slowly faded as his mind started to wander.
“Or some of you welcome for the first time actually, for the first years. And also the new teacher I hired…” He started mumbling, forgetting about the hundreds of eyes trained on him until his Vice-Principal nudged him in the side.
“Oh, right. As I was saying.” Merlin cleared his throat and continued his speech. But something that couldn’t even keep the attention of the man speaking himself, could hardly keep the attention of a room full of teenagers.
Morgie slumped in his chair. He still didn’t understand why his mother was so insistent about him attending Merlins school, especially considering the history between his mom and the principal.
His mom was a powerful sorceress, who once trained under Merlins guidance, but for a reason never revealed to Morgie, the two split ways rather… violently.
Maybe his mom expected him to learn the same magic she did under the same teacher. Or maybe she just needed a spy on the inside. Whatever it was, Morgie couldn’t care less. He had no intention of learning his moms old tricks or spilling information. Still, he’d much rather be here than back at home.
He was pulled out of his thoughts by a loud noise up at Merlins podium. He looked up to see the old wizard quickly levitating the magical microphone before it met the ground, under the disapproving stare of the Vice-Principal. It must’ve gotten knocked down while Merlin jumped out of another one of his mind wanders. Typical. However did his mom only barely compete to this clumsy, ancient man?
His attention broke away from the podium when he heard barely surpressed giggles errupt from a few seats down from him.
Two students, a boy and a girl seemingly around his age, were huddled close together with their hands pressed against their mouths in attempt mute their laughter.
The girl sat with a straight back, poison green eyes squinted in mirth and trained on the podium where the old man fumbled to resume his speech. Her luscious black hair curled up around two large horns. It kind of reminded Morgie of a dragon. Her attire was almost as black as her hair, curving around her body to make her look imposing.
Her hand fell back down into her lap as she grinned at the boy next to her, who was currently doubled over in silent laughter, with his right hand desparately clutching her shoulder. Her blood red lips formed a mean smile that had Morgie advert his eyes immediately. She looked terrifying.
Jesus, was that to be one of his classmates?
The guy next to her suddenly sat back up, letting the hand on the girls shoulder fall to instead sling his arm over the back of his chair, slumping in his seat. Morgie felt his breath catch as he finally got a good look at the boys face.
The boy was so captivatingly beautiful that Morgie barely knew where to look. Shaggy brown hair curled around his ears and neck, framing his face like a halo. His lips were full and pink and curled into an amused smirk as he leaned back in his seat.
But the most captiving part were his eyes. They were a beautiful soft brown, surrounded by a thin line of black, messy eyeliner, enchancing his already mocking gaze to a more sultry look. Tear streaks were still glistening on his face as he came down from laughter.
His head turned to the side slightly to give his full attention to the horned girl speaking to him, bringing up his left hand to gesture with… a golden hook? Who on earth carries a golden hook on hand? Was he a pirate, maybe? Morgie frowned and leaned forward to get a better view.
This movement however didn’t go unnoticed by the brown haired boy, as his gaze snapped to Morgie. The blonde froze as they made eyecontact, unable to look away. The hooked boy's gaze was intense and made the heat rise to Morgie's face.
The boy's confused frown changed into a slight smirk, raising his eyebrow at Morgie.
This made Morgie finally snap out of his daze and quickly look away, staring straight ahead at the podium where Merlin was finishing up his speech. He didn’t dare look back for the rest of the assembly.
Jesus, was that to be one of his classmates?
--
Morgie wandered the hallways littered with lingering students still trying to find their dorms. He, too, was still looking for his. Christ, this place was like a maze. How was he ever going to navigate this?
He looked down at the paper map in his hand. You’d think this school would have a better way of navigating with all its modern technology, but no, paper maps it is. He reached another two way intersection and sighed. Hadn’t he already been here before? He looked down at the map and turned left without looking up, and full on crashed into a solid object.
“Ow, what..” he looked up to see a boy with flaming blue hair, glaring down at him.
“Mind watching where you’re going?” The boy crossed his arms. Morgie immediately folded up his map. “I am so sorry man, didn’t mean to do that.”
The tall boy rolled his eyes, “Well, you did. Do better next time.”
The brown haired boy bristeled at that. “Hey, I apologised. No need to continue being such an asshole. It was an accident.”
The flames posing for hair burned bringter as he raised his chin and dropped his arms to his sides. He pushed his chest out and pulled his shoulders back, not so casually trying to display his strength. “You better watch out, you’re speaking to a god here.”
At that, all apprehension at the boys aggressive behaviour evaporated as Morgie visibly brightened. “Wait seriously? That is so cool dude.” He stepped closer, ignoring the still threatening signs the flaming boy gave off, which kind of confused the god. He was trying to scare the boy into backing off, what the hell is he doing?
“Woah, dude, personal space.” The flaming haired boy stared down at the guy in front of him, who was wearing a big grin on his face. Morgie stepped back. “ Sorry, I’ve just never met a god before. What are you doing here? Why are you not doing, I don’t know, god stuff?”
The taller boy sighed, relenting. This boy really had no self preservation, did he. “I’m likely here for the same reason as you. Learning magic.”
“Oh right. We should totally be friends, then! My name is Morgie, by the way.” Morgie said with excitement. His mom might have send him here for whatever selfish reason she had, but if Morgie was honest, he was just here to make some friends. He never really was allowed to make one back home.
“Hades.” The boy responded, although hesistantly. No matter. At least now he knew someone in the school. That’s a start.
“Awesome. I’ll see you around then, gotta go find my room.” Morgie excitedly patted Hades’ shoulder as he walked past him, leaving the flaming boy standing there confused as to what just happened.
--
Morgie stood in shock as he gazed upon his room.
The dorm system was simple here at Merlin Academy. Every student shared a room with someone of the same sex in the same year. The dorms were provided by the school and were supposed to include two beds, two desks, a small seating area and a shared bathroom.
So you can imagine Morgie's shock when he walked in to find one of the beds completely trashed.
“The fuck did ye’ do to the bed?” A voice suddenly piped up from behind him.
“I didn’t do shit, dude, I found it like this.” Morgie turned around to face what he assumed was his roommate, only to once again freeze in shock when his gaze fell upon the beautiful boy from earlier, leaning against the doorway. There was no smile on his face to be seen now, though.
The boy raised an eyebrow in disbelief. “Then how did it end up like tha’, then?”
Morgie just wanted to die right there and then when he heard the slight scottish accent in the boy’s voice. He struggled to find his words, heat once again rising to his face the longer the hooked boy stared at him.
“Right. Very good defense, I totally believe ye’.”
His right arm was crossed over his chest, his left bended, holding his hook next to his chin. Morgies eyes were pulled towards the glistering hook which then brought his gaze to where his white button up shirt fell open slightly at the chest, revealing a pretty silver necklace resting around his collarbone.
Morgie cleared his throat at the sight, looking away. “Really dude, I just walked in. Why the hell would I already trash this place, I gotta sleep with you in it for the next year.”
This caused the hooked boy to let out an amused snort. “Ye’ gotta what, darling?”
If Morgie wasn’t already blushing before, now his head more resembled a tomato. “That came out wrong. Oh god, sorry, this is not a good first impression.” He turned away to face the broken bed before he could embarrass himself more, silently cursing himself. It hasn’t even been a day and he’s already made a fool out of himself in front of the most gorgeous boy he had ever seen.
He heard a chuckle come from behind him. “I was just teasing ye’, calm down.” He heard the boy step further into the room. “Well then, I guess we gotta head back to the office, don’ we? Reckon they can fix this.” The hooked boy came to stand next to him, staring down at the bed.
Morgie sighed, “No, the office is closed already, we took too long finding this dorm.”
The hooked boy turned his head to face him. “How the hell do ye’ know that?”
“Because I was actually paying attention to the speech, not giggling my way throught it.” He wasn’t actually, he just happened to have caught this bit before his attention had been pulled away by a certain shaggy haired boy.
“Oh, so ye’ were watching me and Mali, then.” The boy smirked, tilting his head as he crossed his arms.
“I wasn’t. What makes you think I was. You were just very loud.” Morgie didn’t dare look at the boy. They were standing so close that he was sure he would melt if he did catch that intense gaze.
"Sure. So I’m guessing one o’ us needs to sleep on the floor until tomorrow then. Unless ye’ know magic?” The brown haired boy inquired.
“I do, but honestly I have no idea how to fix this. I’m at this school for a reason, dude.” Morgie replied.
“Ah, they paired me up with a wizard, eh?” The hooked boy raised his eyebrow with a grin. “This might just be fun.”
“I guess that something you could call me, yes. I’m more of a sorcerer.”
“Potayto, potahto. So what’s yer name then, Mr. Sorcerer.” The hooked boy finally took a step away from him, giving Morgie the chance to breath.
“Morgie le Fay. I come from Camelot. Nice to meet you.”
The shaggy haired boy raised both eyebrows. “A simple ‘Morgie’ would’ve sufficed, love, no need to be so formal.” Morgie barely stopped his knees from buckling at the casual petname. “But, if you want to do it like that,”
The boy all but sauntered to the middle of the room, crossed his legs and bowed with widespread arms. “James Hook. Sailer o’ the seas, navigator o’ the stars. Ye’ may just call me Hook.” He winked. Morgie shuddered.
He was right, then. The boy was a pirate. Interesting roommate combination. The name explained the golden hook in his hand, too. Maybe a family heirloom.
“Pleasure.”
Hook straighted up again and leaned back on one of the chairs, his intense brown eyes studying the sorcerer in front of him. Morgie tried not the fidget under his gaze, and instead spoke up. “You can take the bed. I’ll sleep on the floor tonight, and I’ll go to the office tomorrow to get the other bed fixed.”
Hook nodded, humming in thought. “That is an option, yes. However, counterproposal.” A mischievous grin appeared on the boys face. “We share the bed tonight.”
Morgie almost choked on air. Did he hear that correctly?
Hook chuckled and stepped closer. “C’mon now, I ain’t that scary, am I? Wouldn’t you rather sleep comfortable tonight?”
Morgies breath was caught in his throat and he just stared at the boys beautiful face. Hook apparently took that as apprehension, because he stepped back again. “Don’t worry, just teasin’. I’ll take the floor, don’t worry. Like ye’ said, we have a whole year to sleep together.” He winked.
“No!” Morgie quickly said. He hadn’t meant to reject the offer.
Hook raised his eyebrow. “Wow, okay. I’m just jokin’. Didn’t realise I was that unappealing.”
Morgie cursed. “No, I meant, you don’t have to sleep on the floor. We can share. Tonight.”
At that, Hook’s smirk returned with full force. “Only tonight? Shame.”
He sauntered back to the doorway to grab the bag that he left there, then crossed to room towards the bathroom.
“Oh, by the way, I’m claiming the right side o’ the bed. See ya in a bit, love.” And with that, he closed the door of the bathroom.
Morgie was left standing in the middle of the room, dazed.
How on earth was he going to survive this school?
