If I Could Speak

Summary:

What if there was time enough for Gojo and Geto to talk through their conflicting ideals? A replay of their confrontation of beliefs, not on a basketball court this time, but in front of a KFC lmao.

Work Text:

"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End," Geto murmured, eyes darkened by shadows of things unseen, words that once resonated hope now dripping with a sorrowful weight.

Gojo watched him, his usual carefree demeanor marred by a furrowed brow, a crease between his perfect brows. The world seemed to fall silent in the wake of Geto's declaration, as if the universe itself held its breath, trembling under the weight of his sorrow.

"You speak as though you've lost faith," Gojo replied, his voice barely a whisper against the encroaching darkness.

Suguru's laughter echoed, a hollow sound that reverberated through the sacred halls of the school. "Faith? Faith is a luxury, Satoru. A fleeting, fragile thing. Have you not seen? The world is but a stage, and we are the fallen angels, cast down to enact a tragic farce."

Gojo stepped closer, his six eyes shimmering with an ethereal light, a stark contrast to the void that threatened to consume Geto. "We are not fallen. We are warriors, protectors of the weak."

Geto turned, his expression one of a man lost to the abyss. "Humanity? They are but sheep, blind and ignorant, stumbling towards their demise. And we, the shepherds, are forced to sacrifice our own souls to save theirs. How is that just?"

Gojo's heart ached at the sight of his friend, his brother, consumed by such despair. "Suguru, we chose this path. We bear this burden together."

Geto's eyes flared with a bitter fire. "Together? No, Satoru, you chose to remain blind. You, with your divine power, could change the world. Yet you cling to this broken system, this facade of justice."

Gojo reached out, his hand hovering above Geto's shoulder, hesitant. "What would you have me do, then? Abandon everything? Become a god among men?"

"Yes," Geto whispered, his voice laced with a desperate plea. "Rise above them, reshape this world. Or let it burn, and let us be free of this eternal torment."

Gojo's hand dropped, the weight of Geto's words crushing him. He recalled a passage from the Bible, a verse that now seemed hauntingly prophetic:

"And I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit."

"Is that what you wish for, Suguru? To open the bottomless pit, to unleash the darkness upon this world?"

Geto's eyes softened for a moment, a fleeting glimpse of the friend Gojo once knew. "I wish for peace, Satoru. A peace we can never achieve through these means."

Gojo's heart clenched, the realization dawning upon him that the friend he once knew was slipping away, consumed by his own righteousness. "And what of the innocent lives? The children we swore to protect?"

"Collateral damage," Geto replied, his voice void of emotion. "In the grand scheme, they are but drops in an ocean of blood."

Gojo's eyes burned with unshed tears, the weight of his friend's words pressing down on him like a thousand burdens. "You speak of blasphemy, Suguru. This is not the way."

Geto stepped forward, his hand clasping Gojo's shoulder in a grip that felt both comforting and suffocating. "There is no other way, Satoru. We are the harbingers of a new era, the fallen angels destined to rewrite the heavens."

"And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him."

Gojo's heart broke as he gazed into Geto's eyes, seeing the finality in his gaze, the irrevocable path he had chosen. "Then we are truly lost, he whispered, the tears finally spilling over.

Geto's hand slipped from his shoulder, his expression softening for a fleeting moment. "No, Satoru. We are found. In the ashes of this world, we shall rise anew."

As Geto turned away, the darkness swallowing him whole, Gojo's voice rang out, desperate and raw. "Suguru, please! Don't do this."

Geto paused, a sad smile playing on his lips. "It's too late, Satoru. The die has been cast."

And with that, he disappeared into the night, leaving Gojo standing alone, a solitary figure against the encroaching darkness. The world around him felt cold and empty, a void that echoed with the sorrow of a love lost, a brotherhood shattered.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world."

Gojo's whispered prayer hung in the air, a testament to the battle they fought, not just against curses, but against the darkness within their own hearts. And as he stood there, his heart breaking, he knew that this was not the end, but the beginning of a new, harrowing chapter in their eternal struggle.

Notes:

Just a friendly reminder that throughout this conversation Gojo calls out Geto's name in the same characteristic fondness and affection that Geto called out his all this time T^T
