“I just need you to stand right… There.” You’d been dragging Yoongi around for about an hour, trying to find the perfect place to stage your photoshoot – you were a photography major, and your boyfriend had succumbed to your begging that he be your model. He was the one who’d actually finally settled the debate – the parking lot behind your old high school. The school was old, marked up with graffiti that nobody had ever bothered to cover up. It screamed of reckless youth and abandon, of voices that would never be silenced. It fit your theme and ideas perfectly.
“Here?” Yoongi took a step back, keeping about a foot between you. You nodded, beginning to set up your camera, placing your tripod down and fidgeting with the settings. You could hear Yoongi humming to himself, but tuned it out for the moment, concentrated on making sure your camera was accurately focused.
“And… I think we’re good,” you mumbled, finally looking through the viewfinder, satisfied with what you found yourself looking at. “Alright – now go change.”
“Wait – what?” Yoongi stepped away from where you’d placed him, jumping back only as you tossed him a roll of duct tape. “Why do I need to change – what the hell is this for?”
“Tape down where you were standing, so I have an initial reference point – and you think I’m just gonna take pictures of you like that?” you teased, rolling your eyes once he shot you a grouchy glare. “Alright, alright – just, take off the jacket, I wanna see the shirt and suspenders.” Tossing you the tape and his jacket, he settled back into his original spot, crossing his arms over his chest. You started by taking a couple test shots, making sure that the lighting was just right. Then you began directing him – which way to turn, where to direct his gaze, whether or not he should be scowling or smiling. “Wanna come see what I’ve got so far?” He nodded, moving to place his arm around you as he watched you flip through the photos, quietly commenting on which pictures he liked. You watched his face carefully, smiling to yourself as it softened with pictures he admired while trying to stifle chuckles every time it scrunched up in disdain at his expressions.
“You’re a really talented photographer, you know that?” he murmured, pressing a small kiss to the top of your head.
“Helps when I’ve got a beautiful subject,” you retorted, grinning mischievously when he fidgeted, a faint blush coloring his cheeks. “Okay – next is close-ups, sounds good?” Yoongi nodded, stepping back to give you a chance to dismantle your tripod. “How’d you come up with this place anyways?” When Yoongi didn’t immediately answer, you looked up from where you were bent over the camera setup, narrowing your eyes at the mint-haired boy. “Yoongi?”
He shrugged casually, sitting down on the pavement and slinging his arms over his knees. “It was just – just a place that came to mind,” he admitted casually. You arched an eyebrow, that tone of voice capturing your attention. Rather than playing with the camera, you stepped away and over to your boyfriend, crossing your legs as you sat in front of him.
“Come on – talk to me,” you told him, patting his leg gently. “What made you think of this place for the photoshoot?” Rolling his eyes, Yoongi placed his hand on top of yours, carefully lacing your fingers together.
“…You.” It took you a couple minutes to process the statement, your mouth opening slightly in confusion. Once you realized what exactly he’d meant, you nodded, before deciding you definitely needed the backstory on this one.
“Okay… I’m gonna need some clarification for that,” you responded, squeezing his hand gently as a reassurance. He bit the inside of his cheek – it could sometimes be difficult for him to open up, but you knew that as long as you were patient, he would come around.
“Well… When I went to school here, there was this girl that was really artistic and kinda angsty. Like – even more angsty than me. And I thought she was so cool, with her red streaks and her black notebook and she always walked around all quiet and I was always so curious about her…” Your cheeks were burning and you were already feeling mortified as you could sense where this was going. “So one day I decided I’d follow her out back here – she’d spend her free periods out here a lot, instead of out in the courtyard, like the normal kids. I wasn’t brave enough to go and talk to her, but I’d sit here once in a while, watch her talk with a couple other girls that sat out back. She was totally different – chatterbox, giggly… Almost couldn’t recognize her.” You placed your hands over your face, groaning as you leaned back so you were stretched out on the pavement. Yoongi was now amused, his thoughts slipping out with ease and at a quick pace. “She was so pretty… Looking like a total badass, but really just a giant softie underneath it all…”
“Screw – you,” you muttered, standing so you could go back to fidgeting with your camera. Yoongi just grinned triumphantly, watching as you tried to ignore his intense gaze. “Okay, loser – stand up, just smile, act natural, do whatever you so desire,” you muttered, placing your camera strap around your neck and approaching your boyfriend.
“Does that include you?”
“Yoongi, I swear to god…” He laughed off your muttered curses, standing in front of you with his hands tucked into his pockets. You raised your camera to your eye, slowly snapping a few pictures. “Tilt your head to the side a little?” He followed your instructions, his gaze falling to the pavement. You took a few more shots, waiting to see what he’d do next. Yoongi looked up again, staring intently into the camera before slowly smiling, biting his lip gently. You swallowed hard, your finger pressing down on the button again, watching as he moved in closer, that playful smile of his only growing. “Yoongi…” you warned, carefully taking a few steps back.
“You know… It’s funny – you kinda look like that student…” You let out an annoyed laugh, lowering your camera slightly to glare at him. “Yup – definitely look like her.”
“Yoongi!” His hand pressed down on the top of your camera, pushing it down with his hand so he could smile directly at you instead of through the camera.
“I mean – no red streaks, doesn’t look nearly as grumpy… But yeah, I’d say besides that, you are almost an identical match.” His smirk was pretty much gleeful while you just glared in return, trying very hard not to smile. You failed miserably – especially when he got the camera out of your hands so you could place them on his shoulders and focus on kissing him.
