Work Text:
Shiki was embarrassed, and that was putting it lightly.
You could also say that he was pissed off and annoyed at the crowd around him. It had started with his mom and sister wanting to see off Shiki as he went on his first date. Then Inugami had to come out and embarrass him too.
Even Kabane was in on it, even if he didn't completely understand what was happening. He was sure the kid didn't fully understand what a date was.
The bigger issue was the death glare from Yui that he was doing his best to ignore, which was hard when Akira insisted on clinging to his arm while his mom was figuring out the settings on Aya's phone.
It was by some miracle that the elder twin even allowed Shiki to confess to Akira, let alone go on a date. Not that he'd ever admit that the teen had been the one to make the first move. He fought off a chill as he remembered the lecture he endured the day before.
"I can't exactly say I approve of you." Shiki did his best not to show how scared he truly was.
"So consider yourself lucky that Akira vouched for your character."
A tug on his arm brought him back to the present. That being the entire kemono office, his mom, little sister, and his boyfriend's (is that what they called each other now?) twin looking at the pair expectantly.
"Hey Shiki, you're looking pretty stiff over there. Why don't you wrap your arm around Akira? It'd look nice for the picture"
Of course, Inugami had to say something.
"Oh! Yeah, that'd be super cute Shiki!" Akira squeezed his arm even tighter. He knew he couldn't play off his embarrassment with his tsundere persona.
Shiki reluctantly wrapped a rigid arm around the teen, settling his hand above Akira's waist. Not because he could feel Yui's eyes piercing through him, but because he didn't want to hear Akira complain about him messing up his outfit.
There were a few chuckles as the pair prepared for the pictures. Shiki was sure his face was beet red which only worsened the poorly concealed laughter.
"Oh Shiki, you both look so cute together!" Kumi cooed, smiling brightly as she discreetly snapped a few candid photos. Her comment indirectly started a barrage of other comments from the group. Shiki did his best to ignore everyone and stay still for his mother's photos, but couldn't stand any more of the attention.
"Alright, can we get a move on already?! We have a date planned y'know!" Shiki had enough of everyone smothering them, not even Kon and Kabane got this type of attention.
As the pair prepared to say their goodbyes, Kabane piped up.
"Oh, is this different than us going out as a group?"
Akira giggled at the ghoul's question.
"Sorry Kabane, it's just me and Shiki this time!" The teen winked as he linked hands with Kabane.
"This is a special outing!~" He punctuated his sentence with a laugh.
Kabane looked at Akira with an owlish look, still confused about why it was such an event for everyone.
"Is that why everyone came to say goodbye?"
Shiki decided to butt in, ready to finally leave the smothering presence of the office.
"Yeah, I'm taking my boyfriend and leaving for our very personal, no-friend, date!"
With that he grabbed Akira and dragged him out of the office, ignoring the gasps and laughter from his family. Unfortunately, that still left him with the stuttering mess that was Akira.
The couple had just barely made it far enough from the office before Akira forced him to stop his sprint.
"H-Hey Shiki! You can't just call me your boyfriend!! It's way too soon for that!" Akira brought his hands to his face, poorly masking how shocked he was.
It was clear he was flustered. Shiki couldn't blame him, he was still reeling from his declaration.
"We haven't even started our first date yet!"
They both wore matching red faces, dancing around the unspoken topic.
"Well... we're together, right? And if we're going on a date doesn't that make us boyfriends?" Shiki looked away, unsure if he had missed some unspoken romance rule.
"That's so old-fashioned!" Akira gasped at the simple-minded thinking of the teen.
Shiki scowled at that, completely losing any worry from before.
"We're supposed to go on a couple of dates then you ask me if you want me to be your boyfriend. Then, of course, I have to think about accepting your offer!" Akira spoke in a matter-of-fact tone, as if this also wasn't his first date.
"Well I'm not gonna beat around the bush and I don't just take anyone out on dates," Shiki extended his hand towards the teen, a clear invitation, "Are you my boyfriend or not?"
Akira's face flushed again as he considered his question.
Shiki fought the urge to yell at him in the meantime.
But it seemed that he had made up his mind. Letting out a miffed huff as he took Shiki's hand in his.
"I guess we're boyfriends then!"
