They sat on the tower, staring down at their city in awe.
Their arms were around each other and they were surrounded in a comfortable silence.
Their muscles ached a little from their everyday patrol of the city, and they were still a little breathless.
‘Je te’aime.I love you.’
‘I know.’
‘You do ?’
‘Of course. You weren’t very good at hiding it.’
‘Oh… I didn’t really try.’
‘Of course you didn’t.’
‘Yah… ‘
His ears were drooping.
She pulls him against her in a tight embrace.
‘That’s okay, I love you too.’
‘What ?’
‘Come on, you can’t be that oblivious.’
‘Wait, you mean as a friend-‘
‘No I mean as in love.
You’ve always been there when I needed you ; you’ve saved me when I didn’t want you to ; you’re a complete dork, but you’re still a sweetheart ; and you’ve gone through hell with me and still support me.
There’s no one else in my life that means as much as you do, and I’m not sure I could go a day without your stupid puns.
I think that means I love you.’
Silence fell over them as he stared at her mask with…Surprise ? Joy ? A hundred emotions played out on his face.
‘What, cat got your tongue ?’
She smiled roguishly.
He returned it.
‘No, but he’ll have yours.’
