Work Text:
It was around 2PM when Tan stepped out of his black Mercedes, a heat wave warming up his whole body as he lowered his sunglasses on his nose. A little girl immediately ran to him with her arms spread open, Tan crouched to be around the same height as her and encircled in his embrace Sumalee, his 8 year-old daughter.
“Hi love!” His tone was filled with both excitement and endearment as he squeezed her tight against him, “Good afternoon pa!” Her voice was muffled against her dad’s chest and before she could do anything, he picked her up and pressed a long kiss on his daughter’s cheek. When Tan pulled back in a loud mwah sound, he looked at her with stars in his eyes, because of course, she was his whole world, alongside Khaofang obviously.
A few years back, if he would’ve come up to the first-year uni student Tan and said he’d adopt a kid and get married with his now husband, the old him would have laughed for sure.
They quickly got back into his car and as Tan was about to put the seatbelt on for Sumalee, she stopped him by putting her palm on his forearm ; “I can do it alone, look.” in a slow motion, she managed to buckle herself up and looked up to her dad with a wide smile. Tan’s eyes lit up as he smiled back at his daughter and planted a kiss on her forehead,
“Ooh, my girl is the smartest person in the world!” he exclaimed and ruffled her hair before opening the front door and taking place in the driver’s seat.
They pulled over in front of Khaofang’s office building and Tan took his phone out of his pocket to text his husband where he was parked, after that, he turned around to check what Lee was doing since it was oddly silent. His gaze met her sleeping figure and he felt his heart melt deep down in his core. He was soon pulled out from his thoughts as Fang entered the vehicle.
He looked absolutely gorgeous ; his hair was pushed back by his sunglasses, his lips glossy as it always was and it seemed like the world brightened at the simple glimpse of a smile on his face.
“Good afternoon my beautiful boy.. How was your day?” He spoke in his usual soft voice, one thing that didn’t fade away despite the years is the big crush Tan had on Fang, he still acted the exact same around him and wasn’t planning on changing it any time soon. The man in front of him took a quick look at their sleeping daughter and turned back to look at Tan again but with a bigger grin on his face.
“It was good, honey. I missed you a lot, though.” The curve on the side of his lips changed into a pout as he placed a hand on Tan’s, which was blushing like a highschool girl as the words came out of his mouth.
Fang squeezed the hand that was in his, before breaking that contact to run his fingers up Tan’s arm until he reached the top of his shoulder and pulled his husband closer to kiss his lips briefly.
In a swift moment, he took his glasses off and leaned against the back of the seat. Tan, on the other hand, still hadn't processed whatever Fang just did and just stared at him for a few seconds before starting the car again with a giggle.
Hands in hands, Khaofang, Tan and Sumalee walked through the shop’s alleys and as the biased parents they were, their daughter had a whole cart to herself which was full of the things she wanted. But suddenly, it seemed like Fang remembered something as he looked over the girl and made eye contact with Tan. “I’ll be back in 2 minutes, stay here with Lee okay?” He, almost out of nowhere, spoke before leaving the both of them here. Tan decided not to question it and just did as told.
“Pa! Can I have this one? I don’t have it yet!” Sumalee grabbed her dad’s hand and pointed to the doll she wanted with his free hand.
Tan frowned slightly and shook his head, “Sorry sweetheart, I think it’s enough toys for today okay? We’ll get it next time, I promise.” he looked down at her with a warm smile. It would be an understatement to say that he hates saying no to his daughter, especially when she’s looking at him with those puppy eyes of hers, which kinda remind him of Toey. “But why do we have to wait, pa.. I really want it..”
He bit on his lower lip anxiously before leaning down to brush a strand of hair off her eyes. “Look, you can’t always get what you want, Lee. I said we were going to buy it once we come back..” He chuckled and lifted his hand to his mouth like he was telling her a secret, “I would get it now but if I do, daddy’s gonna be mad..” This made the girl giggle before she lifted her head to a certain direction.
Sumalee walked up to Fang and tugged at his shirt. “Pa said that he would buy me the doll I wanted but he won’t because you’re going to be mad at him! But I don’t think I should be telling you this..” He was listening to her closely and held back a smile as he made eye contact with Tan.
“Really? Well, you’re really as naughty as your dad, huh?I’ll handle him. Go see if there’s anything you want, baby.” He gave her a little tap on the head and watched her walk away before the reason for all his problems, a.k.a his husband, headed towards him.
“Babe.. What even is in your shirt? Are you pregnant or something?” Tan bursted out laughing as soon as the words were spoken but that just earned him a smack on the arm from Fang and an exasperate sigh, “Fuck you, why did I even say yes to you.. it’s just condoms.”
Tan stopped laughing progressively and sneaked a hand around his man’s waist to pull him closer. “Are you tryna imply something?” He lowered his voice because he surely didn’t want their daughter to hear that, for her own good.
“In your dreams.” Khaofang looked at him up and down but couldn’t hold back a shy smile and after a few seconds of just staring at each other, he jerked Tan’s hand away. “Oh trust me, we do a lot in my dreams.” As the taller one was about to say something Sumalee called the both of them.
Fang wouldn’t admit how grateful he was to be there, with the love of his life and their child. His heart was full of nothing but pure happiness and even if life wasn’t always easy for him, he would do anything to have his daughter say that her family is her safe place, that will be the moment when he’d know that he did things the right way.
It was now around 8 in the evening when they had finished eating dinner, Tan stood up from his chair and cleared the table while Fang and Sumalee walked out of her room. “Daddy! Can I try washing up all by myself?” She pronounced as they were entering the bathroom and he nodded as he turned the water on. “Of course sweetie. I’ll stay there in case, okay?”
After a few minutes, Fang was scrolling on his phone when he heard a thud, he immediately lifted his head and saw his daughter with her hand on her forehead. The blood rushed through his vessels and in a quick move, he threw his phone somewhere, it’s not like it was his biggest concern anyway. He wrapped a towel around her and picked her up,
“Are you okay? How did you hurt yourself ?” His words were almost impossible to understand because of how fast he talked but Sumalee just stared at him, then gave him a smile.
Tan entered the room at that exact moment, “What was that sound?” he questioned before closing the door behind him. “I hit my head on the wall, but it’s okay! I’m a fighter!” Tan laughed when she said that but gave her a kiss on the cheek nevertheless, and when his eyes met Fang’s, he noticed small tears forming. “Aw, do you want a kiss too, babe?” he scoffed.
Fang’s forehead wrinkled and he shook his head. “Stop it, this isn’t funny. I was concerned.” He spoke in a shaky voice while Tan was gazing at him tenderly. He moved his hand to the other’s hair to run his fingers through it and pressed a gentle kiss on the corner of his lips. This led to Fang’s pout to fade away and turn into a soft grin.
After a few minutes, the girl was in her pajamas. “Do you want a bedtime story tonight, love?” The shorter one asked and wrapped an arm under Sumalee’s thighs to lift her up from the sink, the little girl nodded happily and nuzzled into his chest.
When they sat down on Sumalee’s bed, Tan pulled a book from her nightstand and turned the main light off, leaving the room in a dim light, as for Khaofang, he parted their daughter’s hair in 3 equal strands. He started braiding her long hair the most gently possible, his movements were so careful that it became mesmerizing to anyone watching. He tied the end of her hair after a few minutes and bent down, slipping his hand under her chin to lift her face, and pecked the tip of her nose.
Tan’s voice echoing in the silent room progressively lulled the girl to sleep, her eyelashes fluttering and breath slowing down as Fang stroked the sides of her legs up and down to soothe her. Only a few seconds later, she was peacefully sleeping. Khaofang looked up to Tan with a calm expression before getting up and covering her with her blanket.
They left the room without a sound to go in theirs and settled on their bed. Fang reached out to take the remote which was on one of the shelves above them and turned the TV on. “Did you feed Khao Pad, Tan?” The latter one asked. Tan shook his head and he was pretty sure that if looks could kill, he would be lying dead on this bed, he quickly stood up and almost ran to do what he had been asked to do.
Fang huffed a laugh and leaned back against the headboard as a movie started playing. After 2 minutes, Tan jumped back into bed. To be honest, Fang could totally feel Tan’s eyes on him but tried his best to ignore it. Although when he felt a hand on his thigh, he turned to the man next to him with a cocked eyebrow.
“What do you think you’re doing, hm?”
Tan shifted to sit cross-legged as his eyes searched for Fang’s, “She can’t hear us, come on.. Just a bit of kissing..” he pouted and finally made eye contact with the other. Fang let out a sigh but still giggled as he swung an arm around Tan’s neck and played with the hair tie that held his half bun together. “This looks good on you, do it more often.” His voice was smooth, not too loud and not too sweet either. His eyes, on the other hand, drove Tan absolutely crazy, because when his voice didn’t make it seem like he wanted him that bad, the way he was looking at Tan said the complete opposite.
“You look good too, and I can do you often.”
Fang held back a smile and pulled Tan closer. “That’s a lame pick-up line.” The latter one giggled and offered him a grin. “You fell for those though, didn’t you?” Fang nibbled on his bottom lip and looked into Tan’s eyes one last time before his gaze fell on his mouth, “Mh. I did.” not even a second later, he crashed his lips on the shorter’s as the hand that was previously on his thigh moved under Fang’s shirt and on his waist, digging his nails into his tanned skin.
The sound of the covers ruffling soon filled the room alongside the movie that was playing in the back. Tan shuddered at the feeling of Fang’s hand traveling down to his lower stomach. The taller one tilted his head to the side, deepening the kiss, after that, he brushed his tongue along the other’s lip to part it open. Tan felt like he could collapse at any given moment, especially when Fang started to lick further into his mouth and play with the drawstring of his shorts, which drew a soft sigh out of him.
“Khaofang,” He mumbled against his lips, and Fang slowly pulled away with a proud expression. “You haven’t called me by my whole name in a minute, are you really that turned on?”
Tan licked his lips and started tickling the sides of the man in front of him, “Should I call you daddy now?” Fang pinched the exposed skin and clicked his tongue, “Shut up, you’re disgusting..” As Tan was about to lean in for a kiss again, his lover shook his head and lay back down. “Hey! Why are we stopping now?” He whined but still let Fang cuddle up to him. “You’re the one who said we’d just kiss, right?” Tan lifted a hand to his hair to stroke it without further complaints. It’s not like Fang was wrong too, so he had no reason to say anything.
“Uncle Q!” A voice screamed, and that made the older man jump. A head popped up from behind him, it was Toey, and as soon as he saw her, the smile on his face grew bigger by every second. “Hi Lee. Was your day okay?” Q waved at her, but right after he did, Toey bent down to do the handshake they had together, and gave her a sniff kiss on the cheek.
“Where are my bags?” Sumalee asked him after looking around and not seeing them anywhere. “They’re with your dads! Don’t worry about it.” And within a few minutes, they were in the car.
It had been around 3 hours since everyone arrived at Phum and Peem’s house, where they were about to spend a week, and Toey and Sumalee had played together earlier.
At some point, the topic of school had been brought up. Toey asked her about the things that happened there, but the girl took a moment to think. “Actually, I really like my best friend. She’s very nice and she always plays with me!” She replied with a smile, but across the room, Fang was frowning.
Sumalee was now sleeping, her parents were in their bedroom. “Hey, it’s normal for her to have feelings, you know? Why should we stop them?” Tan asked his husband, whose body was pressed against the other’s side as they were lying on their bed and Tan was running his fingers through Fang’s hair gently.
The latter one nodded and leaned into the touch, “I know, but I don’t want people to tease her.” He sighed and looked up to Tan. “I know you’re worried, babe, and so am I. But we can’t tell her that she cannot like someone.”
The silence filled the room once again as they both looked into each other’s eyes. Fang was clearly exhausted from both his week and all the moods he went through.
“This week has been tough. You should just rest, don’t think too much about it and let’s enjoy our holidays, hm?”
The taller one nodded once again and snuggled closer to him. It’s like Tan always have the words Fang needs, no matter the situation. And that doesn’t do anything else than make him fall deeper and deeper in love every day. Tan hovered Fang’s jaw with his finger, progressively going lower, doing the same for his neck and collarbone, where he finally rested his hand.
Tan grinned at him and leaned closer. “Do you need a hug?” And Fang immediately replied with a mumbled ‘yes’. Suddenly, the whole world disappeared and the only thing that mattered was them. Their bodies united into one love filled contact. Tan kept rubbing Fang’s back to soothe him, causing his skin to warm up after some time, just like his heart.
“I love you, Tan.”
“I love you too. You mean more than the universe to me.” Fang’s lips cracked into a last smile before he fell asleep. And eventually, Tan was awake for a few more minutes, to appreciate the moment and the feel of the love of his life’s warmth against his own.
Sun was shining bright by now, both Tan and Fang were lying down on their respective long chairs as their daughter ran up to Phum.
She was holding Khao pad in one arm, and the cat in the other. “Uncle Phum! Look at what I made for the pets!” She said proudly, and when Phum looked down to them, he saw little ribbons on top of their heads.
Peem, who was talking to him before she came up to them, started melting right on the spot and ruffled her hair. “That’s beautiful sweetie. You’re so talented.” Phum replied in a soft voice and caressed both of the animals.
“Oh, look at what I did for pa and daddy!” She opened a little box and placed Khao Pad and the cat down to reveal a handmade bouquet. “Should I give it to them?”
Phum and Peem nodded at that and the little girl gave them an excited smile, to which Peem replied with a thumbs up. Right after that interaction, she left to go to her parents.
“Oh, there’s my pretty girl! What’s up?” Tan picked her up to put her down on his lap as Fang got up to sit on the edge of the other’s long chair.
Sumalee pulled the bouquet from behind her back with the widest grin they had ever seen on her face. “It’s for you, because you’re the best daddies in the world!” She exclaimed, and not even a second after they heard those words, they looked down at the flowers.
It was colorful, and really beautiful. Just like her. As soon as Fang looked at Tan, their eyes started getting teary.
They encircled her in a warm embrace, and Fang’s voice came out shaky and almost silenced ; “Thank you, Lee. We love you so much. Don’t ever doubt that.”
And as sweet as this was from their point of view, Sumalee started to worry about the both of them. “I didn’t want to make you cry, I’m sorry..” she mumbled as her eyes shifted from Tan to Fang.
Tan shook his head and gave her a small peck on the forehead. “It’s grateful tears. Don’t be sorry.”
After a few seconds, they were all pulled into a hug once again. Their minds full of each other and nothing else, their hearts intertwined.
Because deep down, maybe it was their world and everybody else was just living in it. At least it’s what it felt like now. Though they didn’t say it, the silence and warmth they brought within the others were enough for them to know that nothing, could ever tear them apart.
