“…and then he proceeds to tell me that ‘It’s not you, it’s me.’ bullshit. Like what the fuck?” Stephanie Brown exclaimed on top of a random Gotham rooftop.
Sitting beside her nodding is Cassandra Cain, aka Batgirl.
“I know right? Like that’s a fuckin’ stupid thing to say to someone you wanna break up with if you have no actual reason! He’s such an ass, I don’t even know what I saw in him.”
Tim had broken up with Steph a few days ago. The break up had been messy for her. She had sobbed her heart out after he announced it. Stephanie had asked why, and the only answer she was given is ‘I’ve been sorting something out. Don’t worry, it’s not you, it’s me.”.
Her first love had been him. Granted, she had dated several others before, but no one made her feel what he made her feel.
She thought what they had might’ve been true love.
“I thought we were gonna be together like Dick and Barb, you know.” Stephanie said, disappointed.
Cass looks at her with a confused look. “Like?” She asked curiously.
Steph sighed melancholy and replied, “Dating for a reallyyy long time. Who knows? We might’ve even gotten married in the future.”
Cass furrowed her eyebrows. “Why does anyone want to do that?”
“Do what?”
“Get married.”
Well, Steph never thought about what marriage would have meant.
“I think it’s uh, romantic for two people who love each other to be bonded like, legally. To be a family together.” Steph explained. “To spend the rest of their lives with someone else, you know, someone you love.”
Cass was quiet for a while, taking her words in and thinking. Her eyes were unfocused and her lips pursed. Was she thinking about what Stephanie has said?
Steph just sat there, silent as Cass who did not speak.
Had she said too much? Her father hadn’t liked that. You wouldn't ruined my plan if you just kept your mouth shut! What are you? A fucking spoiler?
“Cass, I- I’m sorry. I usually talked too much, I rant a lot and I’m so so sorry if I overwhelmed you or something I just have so much on my chest uh-“
“Shush. Why would you want to marry Tim? He’s so-“ Cass shuddered as Steph laughed gently, surprised.
“I know right?” Steph continued, although she looked at Cass with a careful expression like she was scared she would go into a rant again and shock her.
“He’s such a messy person.” with that, Stephanie crossed her arms and brought her knees together. Her volume had been lower than earlier, her body language awkward.
Awkward and nervous.
“It’s okay.” Cass said. “You can talk. I’ll listen.”
Stephanie stared at her.
“Please? I like to hear you talk.” It had been soothing and it made Cassandra felt like a regular person out here listening to drama.
Stephanie raised a lone eyebrow and tried to bite back a smile.
“Really?”, she asked.
Cass answered sincerely, “Yeah.”
Steph cracked a smile. “Uhm, okay. Tim usually doesn’t clean up his room and he doesn’t throw away those Zesti bottles…”
