Sayaka Maizono was known among Japan for being the Ultimate Pop Sensation, she was such a devoted person with her bandmates. She would do anything to get back home with them, but here she was... in Hope's Peak Academy. Away from her best friends, away from her hope of stardom. She didn't realise it yet but she wouldn't be seeing them again for much longer than a semester...
This place was supposed to be a dream come true, but her and her classmates had just fainted and awoken, not sure of what was going on or who bought them further into the labryinth of a school.
Only the most talented and dedicated students got into Hope's Peak, and here she was. She was the most perfectly plain looking girl, perfect inside and out.
She would do anything to get her dream. She wanted to be the most known J-Pop band of all time, she wanted fame and glory, didn't everybody dream of that for themselves?
She was just closer to her dream than any of the others.
Maizono had never looked down on anybody, she would do anything to achieve her dreams, she was dedicated.
When she came to the Academy she didn't realise just how dedicated she could be...
Standing in the main hall with the sixteen other students, they all looked oddly familiar. From the short petite girl in the poofy brown skirt, to the redhead boy standing in the corner with his arms crossed, a perplexed look on his face as his blue gaze scanned around the room at everybody else.
None of them were moving. They were just idly standing in place, breathing and blinking, yes. But they weren't really interacting with the other students in the Main Hall.
That was the first strange thing.
The second was that the redhead boy was the only one moving. He seemed familiar as well, it was an awkward moment of silence when she turned and faced him, their eyes meeting. There was something she had seen before in them.
The boy raised an eyebrow at her, he moved one hand onto his hip.
"Yo, the name's Leon Kuwata." He said, as if the words were programmed into his mind. Sayaka blinked, then she realised she had yet to introduce herself.
"Hi, I'm Sayaka Maizono. I look forward to getting to know you." She had spoken with no hesitation, and walked closer to him again, noticing he really wasn't much taller then she was.
"Huh? What's wrong?" He asked her, probably noticing the weird look on her face.
The rest of the group didn't seem to notice their conversation, and just stood silently like zombies.
"S-sorry. Just got carried away, I guess..." She mumbled apologetically before realising she had no reason to apologise. Why had she said that, was it really second nature? She was a strong-willed determined pop-star! Why was she speaking so reserved, like she was taking too long to speak.
Kuwata was the next person to speak "Huh what's wrong?-" he asked the question again. Somehow it sounded the exact same. This time he was interrupted by the appearance of a brown-haired boy in a green hoodie entering the room.
Suddenly it was like a light-bulb switched off in the other students minds, they began to speak. Lively and confused chatter filling the room.
"Whoa, hey! Another new kid?" Another brown haired boy had asked, he was wearing a green jacket over a yellow baggy shirt. He seemed much older than the other students, maybe 19?
Sayaka then heard the brown-haired boy speak for the first time.
"Huh? Then you guys are all...?"
The conversation continued, everybody speaking normally. Almost automated, like a switch had turned on. Chatter continued among the students as a black haired boy in a military style uniform scolded the new student for being late to his first day at the Academy.
"I don't like this shit..." Leon spoke quietly so the others didn't hear him, leaning over right next to her ear. He looked nervously at Maizono and scanned her up and down. "Aren't you going to say something... please tell me I'm not alone here. Otherwise this is going to end up like every other time and I'm going to end up-"
Sayaka snapped back to reality and turned to face Kuwata.
"What? What are you talking about?" She asked, she fiddled with her blue hair nervously looking up at him. She didn't notice how many piercings he had until she was up close, they shone under the fluorecent light.
"So you're not like them?" He was unsure at first, but seemed slightly more relieved when she nodded firmly.
"Y...You're not gonna try to kill me, right?" He questioned her, looking slightly nervous a droplet of sweat dripping down his forehead.
"Why would I do that?! Of course not!" She said, vigourously shaking her head and hands infront of her. Something in Kuwata's eyes was strange, that familliar feeling again.
*I'll start by talking to those five over there* a singular thought echoed in her head, possibly the brown-haired boy speaking. But he wasn't moving his mouth at all. Then almost like a command she walked next to a timid girl with the purple hair, Kuwata following next to her.
"That guy with the eyebrows is Kiyotaka." Leon whispered next to her. She glanced at him for a moment confused, wondering how he even knew their names.
"And that's Toko," he pointed again to the timid purple haired girl in a long skirt. "Hifumi, Chihiro, Mondo, Sakura, Aoi, Byakuya, Yasuhiro, Celestia, Kyoko, Makoto, Junko." He pointed around the room as he listed the rest of the students.
"I thought we'd never met before, how could you possibly know all of them? The girl over- uh Kyoko had no online forums about her online or anywhere-" Sayaka wasn't understanding the situation but she was interrupted once again by the brown-haired boy walking up to her.
She knew that face! He used to go to her school, when they were younger. She was sure he was the one who saved the crane that day.
"Hi, I'm Sayaka Maizono. I look forward to getting to know you!" She smiled and closed her eyes, her face heating up slightly. She opened her eyes and looked at the boy. She had used that exact same introduction with Leon. She looked over at him as he raised an eyebrow. It was almost like he was signalling her to continue talking.
*I'm sure she doesn't remember but...*
"Remember wh-" she was tempted to ask, but her mouth snapped shut before she could properly form the words.
*Well, nevermind. No matter how you slice it, she's really beautiful. Almost like a doll or something...*
"I'm not a doll, you know. I'm alive!" She spoke, it was an almost offended tone that he would try and objectify her like that, but it seemed that her image was at stake, so she just smiled and brushed it off. He surely wouldn't have meant to say something like that infront of her.
"Huh! Did you hear me?!" He asked her shocked.
Had Makoto not spoken aloud?
It was strange she remembered his name so easily, but they had history so it shouldn't have been a very big deal.
"I'm psychic." She spoke, suddenly turning serious and formal. She looked him in the eye, seeing if he would stare at her in shock, or look at her like she was a complete weirdo. He was shocked.
The two continued talking for more time until interrupted by the eyebrows boy-... Kiyotaka. He sure enjoyed lecturing the group.
After Makoto walked off to talk to Toko, Leon tapped her on the shoulder.
"Look at how he interacts with the others. Watch carefully Maizono-Chan."
Chan? She had never given him permission to use that honourific. They had talked the most out of the rest of the group though, so it made sense.
She watched as Makoto went around introducing himself to everybody else. He never once introduced himself, and yet they somehow always knew his name.
"Listen Maizono-Chan..." Leon whispered. "This whole place is odd. It isn't my first time in this world, it's dangerous, they're killers. Every one of them. This isn't a normal highschool. They're going to kill you." He stared at her ominously. She didn't blink, her breathing grew rigid. Why was he so serious all of a sudden?
He suddenly grabbed her shoulders and moved in closer to her.
"You're the second one to awake from whatever the hell this situation we're in is. I've been through the loop too many times to count. I'm... First. You're Second. We'll always be like this..." he dropped his hands, his shoulders drooped too, along with his posture.
"They always say the same things, all of them. They don't speak or move when he isn't around. I've tried changing this situation. Nothing helps it, look if I do something like this..." he raised his voice and started to yell.
"Stop screwing with me, world! Give me back my youth! Give me back my dreams!" He spoke loudly, loud enough to be heard through the halls, he raised his fist and his whole body tensed up as he attempted to gain the attention of anybody around him.
Sayaka jumped back a little bit, almost scared of what had just folded out infront of her. Nobody else noticed. Nobody even blinked, they were all too busy introducing themselves to Naegi.
"Wh... what was that for?!" she said looking around, more alert than she had been previously. Then she realised something. "Kuwata... you can project your voice really well. Do you by any chance want to be a musician?"
He started at her and took a deep breath.
"Maizono-Chan, you can't mention anything about my future to me, okay otherwise-" he stopped talking for a moment, and the tension in his muscles faded, only to reveal the same relaxed guy she had first met in that very room only 20 minutes ago.
"I'm gonna be a singer, so all I need is a songwriter and someone on guitar, and we're set!" He smiled with his hand relaxed rubbing the back of his messy red hair.
Maizono wasn't put at ease by this at all. This only made her more worried.
He looked at her almost desperate and out of breath, concern creased in his brows. Like he'd really done it a million times, just like he said.
"Kuwata... I won't mention it again I'm sorry I didn't know, I just... I don't know how I came to that conclusion... it's almost like this is all automated..."
"Just don't, okay... you'll wear yourself out thinking about it. I don't wanna talk about it anymore." He turned away and walked over to Naegi.
Now that she thought about it, Kuwata looked so tired. Not just fed up, but physically tired. He looked pale and almost feverish.
"Super cool to the max!!!" he weakly chided as Naegi and him conversed. Makoto seemed pleased with the response and then Leon began talking again.
"I was up way too late last night, so I could use a little shut-eye!"
This made Sayaka notice that she zoning out again, and everybody else was talking.
*I could feel everyone's tension evaporating!*
Suddenly the mini-TV in the corner of the room turned on showing a glitchy figure, almost representing a bear. A noise came from a speaker nearby. *Ding-Dong-Bing-Bong*
"Ahem! Ahem! Testing, testing! Mike check, one two! This is a test of the school broadcast system! Am I on? Can everyone hear me? Okay, well then...!" the cheery voice seemed to almost be smiling, the voice dripping with happiness and hope in such an odd situation.
"Ignore him. He's telling us to meet in the gym, Maizono-Chan." Leon said still looking tired, his eyes seemed heavy on his face as he walked over to her. Everybody started to leave, until it was just Makoto and them.
"Kuwata what is this...? How do you know about everything here... please just tell me the truth!" Sayaka walked forward.
"Call me Leon." He sighed dragging his hand down his face exhausted.
"Sayaka, this isn't a normal school." He turned stormy and serious again, placing his hands on her shoulder. "This is a killing game."
Sayaka looked up at him, shocked silent. Words couldn't form from her mouth.
"This is the first time anybody else has recognised me. The fact that you're here and listening, aware of what's happening gives me... I hate to say it, but it gives me hope. Please, Maizono-Chan, you can't let me down. We'll get out of here together, I promise." He seemed desperate as he begged her.
She nodded firmly.
"Wait Kuwata... if this is a killing game... then you know what happens! You can escape and help me too!" She smiled brightly at him, her idol determination coming back to her.
Leon smiled softly at her, maybe her smile made him happy. Then he sighed sadly. "It isn't that simple... we can't avoid it."
"Avoid what...?" Sayaka noticed that a light purple aura surrounded him when he said the last few words, what was that?
As soon as he spoke the aura faded, like it was asking her to question and interact with him further.
"Becoming the first two dead."
She shook her head. "Leon... I don't understand. How does it happen everytime? Who kills both of us?"
"No Sayaka" he shaked his head and clenched his teeth, his hands tightening their grip on her shoulder. "You don't get it..."
Her eyes widened, she gulped down the thick saliva forming in her throat. Anxiety worsening in her stomach like a lump-hard rock.
"I'm the one who kills you."
