Dating and Skating

Summary:

Langa finally gets the courage to ask Reki out. Reki, of course, says yes. Now their first date is right around the corner and they're both excited.

-

Aka - Langa and Reki's first date. (According to me :)

Notes:

First off I just wanna say that this fic was kind of requested of me by one of my close friends, so thank you for the suggestion of a Reki/Langa or else I would not have dived right into this ship. (I'm more of an Eden shipper personally)

Second this is kinda based off headcanons and what I've seen through the show. I take Langa as demi and genderfluid. (And maybe even hinted autism, but that wasn't a focus) I also take Reki as Bi and Cis. (And possible anxiety, but again not the focus, so no research was done + not tagged)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Langa and Reki were officially dating.

After the events of the ‘S’ tournament, and Langa’s final race with Adam, the ex-snowboarder finally got the confidence to ask Reki out. He had originally planned to ask Reki out directly to his face, but after waiting so long for the right time, Langa eventually did it over text.

Reki then, enthusiastically, texted him back that Langa’s feelings were very much mutual, and that Reki really, really liked Langa. This caused the two of them to start planning their first date with a few problems. Reki wanted to make sure that their first date was extremely special as it would mark the beginning of their relationship. Langa on the other hand didn’t share the same settlement, and was just happy with spending time skating with Reki like the two normally do.

The two eventually came to an agreement, Reki would choose where the couple went, and as per Langa’s request, they would skate to the place than to a skatepark for at least an hour. This meant that Reki’s options were limited, but he knew a great place regardless, he would just have to do a little bit of preparation.

Till the date came around, the newly formed couple would just have to play the waiting game.

-

After days of waiting and attempts at tolerating the miserable hours of school, it was now the day of the newly made couples date. The two school boys made sure that any school work or studying was done prior to their date, even making sure any chores that needed done were taken care of. The two really wanted the day to themselves without any interruptions for something stupid like not taking out the trash.

Now Reki stands in front of the Hasegawa’s apartment complex, anxiously waiting for his boyfriend to kindly hurry the fuck up. They both had planned to meet at 11, but now it was going on 11:20, and Reki’s anxiety was starting to get the best of him.

He was sure the pair agreed on 11, Reki checked his and Langa’s messages multiple times to make sure. Unless Langa completely forgot? It wasn’t unlikely for Langa to forget something important. But Reki has sent him plenty of messages that were left on read. Maybe this was Langa’s way of telling Reki that he no longer-

“Reki!” Said boy heard, snapping him out of his over thinking, and what served as his only warning before Langa threw himself at Reki. It took all Reki had to make sure they both stayed upright while the older teen squeezed the life out of the younger.

When Langa finally pulled away, and Reki was able to get a good look at his other half, Reki felt like he couldn’t breathe.

“Langa you look amazing!” Reki said, throwing his arms every which way, making Langa a blushing mess. Langa looking amazing was an understatement, he truly looked fabulous, beautiful, and breathtaking in Reki’s case.

Said teen was dressed in his usual beat up blue converse, but he also sported black ripped jeans with a checkered belt to match. He then had a plain white dress shirt on, accompanied by a crew-neck sweater with colored stripes that deeply reminded Reki of the gay pride flag. That wasn’t it either for layers as Langa wore a varsity jacket with similar patterns and colors as the rest of the outfit. His accessories were combinations of star necklaces and chains. What really did it for Reki was what looked like a dusting of make-up across Langa’s adorable face, and slight curls in his shoulder length hair.

Langa definitely made Reki feel underdressed in his simple sweatshirt-jeans-vans trio of outfit.

“Um, thank you, my, uh, mom, helped get me with getting ready. She, uh, um knows about us if you don’t mind.” Langa was still cosplaying as a tomato, and had turned away from what Reki assumed was embarrassment.

“Do you wanna start heading to the place I picked out,” Reiki followed up with.

“Sure.”

And so then the couple was off on their skateboards, just cruising through the streets of Okinawa. “Right here and then a sharp left.” with Reku guiding Langa to the prepared place.

It was only a good twenty minutes before,”We’re here!”

In front of Langa was what looked like an old rundown playground. On the right, the children’s equipment was starting to be overgrown with greenery and on the left were branches and picnic tables with peeling brown paint beneath bright colored graffiti. Then what really caught Langa’s attention was the blanket in the center decorated in a lunch basket and eating utensils.

“So…how do you like it?” Reki asked nervously, trying to start a conversation.

“It’s cool.”

“Do you want to come sit down,” Reki prompted, “I have some of your favorite foods packed.”

Langa’s eyes lit up at the mention of food. Quickly he nodded his head and started rushing over to said basket of food. Reki just giggled to himself, enjoying his boyfriend's antics.

When Reki was deciding what to do for their date, he had drawn a few blanks on what to do. He knew he wanted to do something with food as Langa adores everything and anything food wise. The problem was he didn’t want to do one of those basic dinner dates at a restaurant.

It was only till he got the help of Joe and Cherry, even some suggestions from Shadow and Miya did the date start coming together. Cherry mentioned the abandoned playground for privacy also as it was in skating distance since Langa was hell bent on getting some skating time in. Shadow was the one to mention something about a lunch, and Miya adding his thoughts about it being homemade for some effort from a slime.

Reki was in love with the ideas all of them we're coming up with. The only problem was Reki was a horrible cook, which came to a surprise from the S gang with how much he took care of his younger siblings. So Joe offered to help with the lunch meal, but it had to be after hours when his shop was closed and Reki would learn how to properly cook.

The pair decided it would be best to do it the day before the date, so that meant skipping Friday night S. Though the shits and giggles the group had was definitely worth it. Seeing someone like Joe teach someone like Reki who had two completely different teaching and learning styles meant a whole lot of teasing in the not so distant future.

Fortunately that night Langa and his mom had their first free night together as well, so that cooled Reki’s nerves about having to give an excuse to Langa about why they couldn’t hang out at S.

So once that Friday night was over, Reki had a multitude of sandwiches and sweet treats the couple both enjoyed packed and ready. Cherry and Shadow also had a shit ton of black mail on both him and Joe, but that’s not what really matters.

“These are really good!” Langa finally said after downing his third sandwich.

“I’m glad,” Reki smiled,”do you wanna try some of the chocolate covered strawberries?”

Langa nodded, and Reki started digging the fruit dessert out of the basket. When found, Reki also took out some raisin cookies for himself as he had an allergy to strawberries. Though a selfish part of himself brought the chocolate chip cookies because they were one of the few foods that Langa absolutely hated while Reki enjoyed.

“Here, they’re both milk and white chocolate, there’s also some plain ships in the front of the basket if you decide you don’t like the strawberries.”

Reki handed the strawberries to his partner, and Reki could almost feel Langa’s intense stare at the treat. When Langa finally got his hand on the dessert, he was a little hesitant, but excited by the new food. Well, it wasn’t like Langa hadn't had strawberries before, he just never had them with chocolate on top, or sprinkles for that matter.

Taking a bite out of the white and rainbow sprinkled strawberry that the teen decided was pretty, he couldn’t help but spit the bite right out of his mouth to the grass.

“Langa!?” Reki got up with concern, closing the gap between them even if it was only a couple feet, “are you alright?”

“Mhm,” Langa nodded once again, quickly finishing a bottled water, “it's just that was ew”

“Ew?” Reki questioned.

“Textures odd,”

Reki didn't press more, nor did he think he would get anything else, so he just went back to where he was sitting. He was used to it. Now that he thinks about it, Langa said something about the texture of the chocolate chip cookies just didn't sit right with him.

He saw Langa grab the plain chips he mentioned earlier, and he thought maybe he should have known better. Shouldn't a good friend, much less a boyfriend, know what his partner likes and dislikes? Hell, he even gave Langa an alternative! Did he subconscious know?

Ugh, he hated overthinking… So instead Reki started up some different conversations when Langa seemed up for it.

Then Reki started showing Langa some videos on his phone, and he was feeling pretty proud of himself. He was one, getting the date flowing a bit better, and two, was starting to actually feel like Langa was truly enjoying himself. Which Reki didn't blame Langa for, he never would, but sometimes Reki just can't get a grip on his partner's emotions.

When they first started eating, Langa's face was blank, so Reki wasn't sure if the blue haired male was content or even excited about what Reki picked out for the pair of them. Now it's like Langa emotions were written out right in front of the red haired boy. Reki could feel the sunshine coming from his partner.

The couple stayed that way for about an hour until Langa spoke up with a question, “Do you wanna skate now?”

“Oh yeah, of course,” Reki started to get up with Langa following his actions, “do you wanna stay here or go somewhere else?”

“Skatepark?”

“Sure”

And so the couple was off in the direction of the skatepark with Reki as the lead once again after the red head secured the picnic stuff under a bench to come back for later. They were almost there when Reki felt a raindrop fall on his face, then another one, until it started to fully fall.

“Shit!” Reki yelled, worried about his and Langa’s skateboard, “Langa over here,” He pointed to a convenience store that was not too far from them for shelter.

The two of them got off their boards, quickly grabbing them, and ran to the store. When they made it into the air conditioning they were freezing from being drenched due to the rain.

“God damn it,” Langa cursed and Reki understood how he felt. He had no clue it was supposed to rain today, let alone storm by the sounds of thunder he heard and sparks of bright light he saw.

“Guess we're camping out here for a while,” Reki said after a pretty nasty hit of lightning.

“Can't Shadow just pick us up?” Langa asked, already on his phone texting, at least Reki assumed.

“I didn't think of that, he should have off today and not busy unless he finally scored a date with the guy he's been pining after,”

Langa nodded, and after a few seconds gave the awaited answer that Shadow would indeed be able to pick them up.

In the meantime, Reki and Langa looked around the convenience store. Though they were also conscious of the fact they were totally soaked from the rain, so the least they could do was buy some supplies to dry themselves off the best they could. It was after they circled the store for the second time that the couple heard a round of continuous car horn beeps that they immediately recognized as Shadow.

“Thank you,” Reki said to the store worker before the pair grabbed their boards from the front of the store and ran to the awaiting car just a little ways from the entrance.

“You two are lucky that there is a nasty storm coming or else I would have left your asses sitting in the rain,” Shadow complained right when the duo got into the mini car.

“Sure,” Reki said, he was sure deep down that Shadow did care for the two of them just in his own way just like the rest of the S gang and would have come to get them regardless of the incoming storm, “thank you anyways.”

He heard Shadow grumble something from up front before what he assumed was heading to Langa’s apartment complex since it was closer.

“I’m sorry about the rain,” Reki started after a couple of minutes, feeling truly sorry, if only he had planned right and actually thoroughly-

“It’s fine,” Langa smiled, “I had fun.”

“I’m glad,” Reki smiled back.

They both just went back and forth with conversations, even comments from Shadow at different points and before they knew it they arrived at Langa's drop off area.

Langa took a final glance at Reki after picking up his board, “I did truly have fun today Reki, thank you,” Langa leaned in and kissed Reki on the lips.

“Bye, I’ll text you then,” And before Reki registered what the hell had just happened, Langa was off running for his apartment.

“FUCK YES!”
