Work Text:

“Have you seen him?”

“No.”

“I thought he was with you.”

“Nope, not seen him since, well morning chow I guess.”

“Hunter…”

“Nope, dunno where he is. Why would I lie to you?”

“Fine.”

Hunter, having been of no use at all to Tech.

Tech makes his way over to Wrecker, thinking he can help.

“Wrecks, have you seen Crosshair?”

“Nope, I thought he was with Hunter.”

“No, not with Hunter, I just checked.”

“How ‘bout the firing range then?”

“No, first place I checked.”

Guess it would have been?

“Well, then, gym?”

Sometimes perhaps, mostly not.

“Not there either.”

Tech grows more and more frustrated, his nervous ticks kicking in, his desperation clear in his voice.

“I don’t have a clue where to look anymore!”

“Well, guess he is somewhere around here. The Marauder is still in the hangar, so…”

“Yeah, I was just tinkering there, so not on the ship either.”

“Well, you looked everywhere I guess, and I haven’t seen ‘im…”

“Thanks anyway.”

Wrecker sees the confused, bewildered gaze on Tech, his eyes wide and scary.

“Why you looking for Cross anyway?”

“I need something.”

“Oh. Okay.”

Wrecker knows well enough when to leave it alone. Not to ask too many questions.

Tech leaves, wanders the corridors, checking vacant rooms for any signs of the wayward sniper to be. But there is nothing there. Crosshair, has simply, vanished.

Tech sniffs, feelings of doom arising in his chest

Why?

Well, just because, Crosshair isn’t there.

He was supposed to right?

Tech thinks Crosshair should have realised Tech needed him. Just because… well, honestly, Tech isn’t really sure himself as to the why Crosshair should have read his mind. Not that Crosshair could anyway. Read Tech’s mind. Well…

When Tech gets like this though, antsy, feeling suffocated with the weight of the galaxy hanging on his shoulders. The feelings there for no particular reason, just because… It is Crosshair who understands Tech. Doesn't question Tech of the reasons why. Crosshair simply is there for Tech.

But right now, Crosshair is nowhere to be found.

Tech starts running, faster, impossibly fast. Where to he is running, he does not know. The only thing Tech knows is, that he needs to get out of there. To get to somewhere else. To be, some place different.

Tech runs and runs until he ends up at the far end of Tipoca City.

There is an old abandoned hangar there.

The hangar bay not used anymore. It’s a space Tech and Crosshair had found together years back when they were still kids, out of the pods really. Well, a tad older but yeah. They used to spend time away from others there. A lot too.

Tech stops just at the entrance. His heart is racing.

Someone is sitting at the docks there, with their feet hanging off of the ledge.

Tech stands there, slumped, unmoving, only staring at the shadow of the figure.

The silhouette so familiar suddenly, as the toothpick is changing position.

“What, do you want.”

It’s not a question, not really. The tone of it hardly mean. Just, the familiar voice telling Tech what he needs to do even if the wording is different.

Tech swallows, corrects his posture, then walks to the ledge.

Without any words, Tech takes a seat right next to Crosshair, their shoulders touching as they usually do. Not a word is spoken between them. They don’t need to speak. As it is, during moments like this, they never do.

It’s just the two of them, sitting in the most perfect silence.

Just the two of them observing the ocean beneath them with the few birds flying across the clear skies. There is no rain today, no storms either. Only peace out there in the nature, the skies.

As it is, inside of Tech’s mind too.

Because Tech is with his comfort person, Crosshair. The one how never asks the reasons why.
