Chapter Text

Nugget is a legend among beans (well, according to Nugget, at least). He is the night. He is the day. He is that weird gray time in the morning when it’s too early to be awake but too late to go to bed. He wears a snazzy blue suit, a warm, stripy scarf, and a pair of goggles perched on top of his nuggety shaped head.

Everyone on the Skeld likes Nugget, or so Nugget thinks….

You see, news has got around that two of their number are, in fact, impostors!

Time to get to work. The cafeteria is an explosion of colour and movement as the crewmates set out to complete their tasks. Orange and Coral move immediately to the garbage chute. Rose heads toward weapons while Yellow moves swiftly towards the hallway on the left. Leaving Gray and Brown at the table, Nugget follows Cyan down towards admin when suddenly—

BLEEEEEP!

EMERGENCY MEETING.

NO DEAD BODIES FOUND.

The chat is immediately filled with question marks and annoyed exclamations.

“DUDE,” Red shouts.

“****,” Pink declares, rather eloquently.

“Where?” asks Yellow who seems confused.

“Red (red) is imposter,” says Brown, who called the meeting.

“Troll,” Lime retorts.

“Red (red) is imposter,” Brown repeats.

“Vote Brown,” says Red. “Yeet him outta the ship.”

The chat is really going off. It seems no one much likes Brown at the moment.

“Purp is the… PURP-etrator,” Nugget jokes. Admittedly, it’s not one of his best ones. “Red and Purp were together in nav.”

“Not me,” Purple replies. “Red left nav just before the lights went out.”

“Let’s watch Orange trash,” Green suggests.

Eventually, the votes are submitted. In the end, Purple wins first place. A message appears on the cafeteria screen:

Purple was not An Imposter.

2 Impostors remain.

As the others disperse, Nugget heads down to storage with Orange and Green. The moment Orange tosses the trash (and Nugget has to admit, he tosses it like a champ), the lights are sabotaged. Nugget leaves Orange with Green and heads into electrical. There’s already a sizeable group fiddling with the switches, but Nugget decides to join in anyway.

It seems to take forever, but finally the lights get fixed. And then doors close. Nugget heads around the corner and has only just joined Orange at the download monitor when—

BLEEEEEP!

DEAD BODY REPORTED:

ROSE

“NUGGET!” Coral screeches. “NUGGET’S BEEN FAKING TASKS!”

“CORAL!” Green accuses. “I saw it! In caf!”

“Could be SS,” Orange says before adding, “Y’all saw me trash, right?”

“Yellow safe,” Maroon pipes up. “Her and me scanned.”

“Maroon safe,” Yellow adds.

“Just skip,” Nugget suggests.

“Let’s watch Orange trash,” Purple suggests.

“TRASH PARTY!” Green adds. “WOOO!”

Eventually, the votes are submitted. In the end, Nugget and Coral tie for first place. A message appears on the cafeteria screen:

No one was ejected (Tie).

2 Impostors remain.

As the others disperse, Nugget heads down to storage with Orange, Green and Purple. “Bruh!” Purple types. “I was with you in elec.”

Almost immediately, the chat turns on Nugget:

“Purp was in elec!”

“Not Purp!”

“Nugget is a stale baguette!”

“Nugget is sus!”

“NUGGET!”

The votes are submitted, the verdict is clear. In the blink of an eye, Nugget finds himself floating in the icy cold depths of space, watching as the Skeld flies off without him.

Yellow is alone in the reactor. Nugget continues through the hall, into the cafeteria and finally into weapons where Gray is shooting asteroids—

Nugget, persuaded by Brown’s compelling argument, votes for Red. Everyone else, however, votes Brown for being an annoying troll. The airlock opens and out shoots Brown. A message appears on the cafeteria screen:

Brown was not An Impostor.

Once again, the amassed crewmates set out from the cafeteria. Cyan runs off to the left while Gray stands motionless by the edge of the table. Nugget follows Red down to admin where already there is quite a crowd gathered around the card swipe table. One by one, Rose, Red, and Cyan complete the task and leave admin. Purple is still there, appearing to struggle with her card, when Nugget exits admin. He passes Green in storage and moves into electrical. He has only just positioned himself in front of the download monitor when—

BLEEEEEP!

DEAD BODY REPORTED:

TAN

There is only one question on everyone’s fingertips: “Where?”

“IT’S RED!” screams pink. “BROWN WAS RIGHT!”

“Why Red?” asks Yellow.

“RED KILLED TAN,” Pink continues. “I SAW IT!”

Red immediately denies it, of course, but Pink will not be assuaged.

“SS maybe?” Green interjects.

“WAIT!” cries Orange. “Red was with me in storage. Not Red!”

“IT’S ORANGE AND RED!!!!!!!!” Pink types hysterically.

“Hey guys,” says Gray, at last joining the conversation. “What did I miss?”

Orange, Red and Pink tie with 3 votes each, but many of the crewmates have followed Nugget’s lead and skipped. It was a close call, but in the end, no one is ejected from the ship. A message appears on the cafeteria screen:

No one was ejected (Skipped).

Nugget immediately heads right into weapons where he spots Green blasting asteroids—PEWPEWPEW! He heads downwards, passing Lime in o2. Purple and Red are in navigation. The shields remain unlit as Nugget runs through, bypassing communications and racing into storage where he meets Coral running from the other direction. As Coral moves to the garbage chute, Nugget enters electrical and hurries to the back.

“Elec,” Nugget reports. “I saw someone vent.”

“Where?” asks Gray, a bit too late.

“Self!” Coral is quick to accuse. “IT’S NUGGET!”

Finally leaving electrical, Nugget moves through storage into admin, going first to the card swipe table and then to the upload monitor where he waits… and waits… and…

BLEEEEEP!

The word “Where?” pops up half a dozen times in the chat.

“In medbay,” Lime finally replies.

“Anyone around?”

“Yellow was in upper engine.”

“Not Yellow! Yellow scanned!”

“Maroon and Yellow!”

“Purple was in elec!”

Accusations are flying thick and fast now.

Although this elicits a few lols from the others, Lime isn’t so impressed.

“It’s Nugget!” he types furiously.

“Lime sus,” says Gray.

Within a few moments, Gray and Nugget have turned the rest of the crew against Lime.

One by one they set off to do their respective tasks, except for Gray who seems to have decided to follow Nugget around the ship. In weapons. In nav. In shields. It’s in storage that Nugget finally shakes Gray off. He passes Yellow in lower engine and sees Maroon on cams—

It seems to take forever, but finally the lights get fixed. And then doors close. Nugget heads around the corner and has only just joined Purple at the download monitor when—

It seems to take forever, but finally the lights get fixed. And then doors close. Nugget heads around the corner and has only just joined Purple at the download monitor when—

But no one is listening to him.

Almost immediately, the chat turns on Green.

“Green is imp!”

“Not Coral!”

“We will avenge you, Rose!”

The votes are submitted, the verdict is clear. In the blink of an eye, Green finds himself floating in the icy cold depths of space, watching as the Skeld flies off without him.

A message appears on the cafeteria screen:

Green was not An Impostor.

There is a feeling of unease and suspicion as everyone leaves the cafeteria. Gray heads off to weapons with Coral. Maroon and Orange begin to perform a funny sort of dance by the table. Nugget makes a beeline for electrical, goes to the download monitor and waits… and waits… and waits…

Finally leaving electrical, Nugget goes into storage where Coral is watching over Gray at the fuel can. Hurrying to admin, Nugget goes to the upload monitor and waits… and waits… and…

BLEEEEEP!

The word “Where?” pops up half a dozen times in the chat.

“In medbay,” Lime finally replies.

“Anyone around?”

“Yellow was in upper engine.”

“Not Yellow! Yellow scanned!”

“Self!”

Accusations are flying thick and fast now.
