As soon as she sees that all-too-familiar hat peaking out from the thick trees surrounding her hiding spot, Asami quickly pops out of the thicket of bushes she has been secluding herself in. She takes off in the fastest sprint she has ever done, her heart pounding steadily in her chest and in her ears as she rushes towards her fiancé’s form. After witnessing Kaido’s Bolo Breath of Rage, Asami had feared the worst for the man she loves, leaving her sense of safety where she had been staying with the Straw Hats, where Sanji had sworn to the Surgeon of Death to protect her in Law’s stead. Her brunette curls whip around her face, her green eyes wide with such alarm and fear as she gets closer and closer to where she can see Law’s hat between the cover of the trees.
“Law!” Asami calls out, pumping her legs as fast as they can go as she sees her fiancé’s pace begin to slow considerably as he gazes around the destruction of the clearing, ragged gasps leaving the doctor’s throat. “Law, I’m here!” she continues to shout, wanting to reassure the man who saved her all those years ago from the Donquixote family that she is alive and safe even after Kaido tried to destroy the entire mountain with his powers.
“Asami,” Law weakly whispers, his legs shaking as he looks up to try and find the source of his lover’s voice.
His pale grey eyes grow dizzier by the second as he struggles to stay upright.
The fog in his brain grows stronger, the effects of his and Luffy’s short-lived rebellion against Kaido and Basil Hawkins quickly catching up with him.
If only he could just find her amongst the trees….
The strength in his legs continues to fade and sooner than he’d like to admit, the young Surgeon of Death collapses into the dirt, an anguished groan escaping his lips as he falls to his knees. Suddenly, a pair of arms is encircling Law, lifting his head and torso off the ground as the soft presence of Asami is felt all around the Captain of the Heart Pirates.
“Law,” Asami whispers, tears now spilling from her emerald-colored eyes. “Law, what happened? Say something,” she pleads, noticing the blood seeping through Trafalgar Law’s favorite black jacket, the crimson blood staining the fabric and steadily dripping down the man’s left arm.
“Sea prism…” Law barely manages to gasp out, his head slumping against Asami’s chest as his shallow breaths continue and his eyes continue to grow heavier by the second.
Sea prism stone, of course! Asami begins to search for the source of the Devil Fruit nullifying substance, her gaze landing on a nail protruding from Law’s bicep. She hisses, gnashing her teeth as she thinks of the pain Law must currently be enduring with the pain in his upper extremity.
“This is going to hurt,” Asami winces, preparing Law for what she is about to do to try and help him recover back to his full strength.
“Just do it,” Law whispers his consent, blowing out a long sigh as he stills his body where Asami can work with the least amount of obstacles possible.
A shaking patient would undoubtedly add the possibility of many more complications occurring. Asami grabs a few supplies out of the backpack attached to her back, filled with several of Law’s medical necessities as well as those that she believed herself and the Straw Hats would need for their separate mission to achieve the success of Law’s plan. Asami’s green eyes cloud with guilt as she grabs the head of the nail between her fingers and prepares to pull the foreign body from Law’s arm. Swallowing past her fear, Asami quickly grasps the silver and pulls as firmly and quickly on the nail as possible, the entire nail being removed from Law’s arm with a sickening squelch. A wince and a small groan exit Law’s lips as his face contorts in pain while Asami focuses on dressing the wound in question, disinfecting the hole in his arm before packing the injury with gauze and wrapping a bandage as tightly around Law’s left arm as possible in a way that will help the injury heal while also not impeding the function of the Surgeon of Death’s appendages.
Once the injury has been wrapped fully and the tape cut short by Asami, she lies Law’s head in her lap, combing her fingers through his black tousled hair she loves so much.
“Asami,” Law breathes, casting his steely grey gaze up at Asami, tenderness and relief shining on his face. “I was so afraid,” he whispers, squeezing both of Asami’s hands with his right hand, his voice cracking as he thinks of all the horrible thoughts he had in mind when he watched Kaido’s Bolo Breath light up the sky. “I thought something terrible was going to befall you,” the Surgeon of Death admits, his head resting contentedly in Asami’s lap as the woman he loves continues to massage his head now that his wound is tended to.
“You know I can take care of myself if I’m in a bind,” Asami reminds, keeping her gaze on Law’s injury to ensure that she has bound it appropriately to keep the wound from re-opening and bleeding through his make-shift field dressing again.
“I know you can,” Law smiles, thinking back to all the times that Asami has proven herself worthy in combat. “I still can worry about you when we’re in enemy territory, you know?” he softly speaks, nuzzling his head against Asami’s hands and chest. “I would never forgive myself if I never got the opportunity to marry you like I promised,” Law reveals, twisting Asami’s left hand and engagement ring between his own fingers.
“An event I look forward to every day,” Asami agrees, a satisfied smile overtaking her lips. “But, in the meantime, we’re busy fighting for freedom for the people of Wano, so we can’t afford any distractions,” the magic wielder regretfully says, pausing momentarily to press a soft kiss to Law’s forehead and lips.
A beat of silence passes before Asami begins to speak again.
“Who did this to you?” Asami demands, helping Law to his feet as she stares at the offending wound to his shoulder. “Tell me,” she nearly growls.
“Asami, please, it’s not worth further altering the plan to get even for me,” Law attempts to persuade his fiancée, having witnessed firsthand just what powers Asami can unleash if she is angry enough.
“Tell me who did this to you! I need to know who did this to you where I can grind his sorry waste of space into oblivion!” Asami snarls, fire crackling to life in her hands as she thinks of how much damage she plans to do those responsible for harming Law.
Law chuckles warmly, accepting the aid Asami offers him for walking through the trees, furthering the distance between the two of them, Hawkins, and Kaido.
“I have no doubts that you would, sweetheart,” Law reassures, taking Asami’s hand in his own as they climb the side of the mountain together. “But let’s not wreck my well-thought-out plan even more off-course by allowing both you and Straw Hat to go off-script.”
Ah. Well, if he’s referring to his plan going to ruin already, then Asami has no doubts that the Surgeon of Death will make a full recovery shortly.
