Work Text:
Katsuki Bakugo usually didn’t care when people forgot his birthday, but this year was different because Izuku Midoriya was the reason for his pain.
Their relationship had never been perfect, but there was no reason to purposely ignore the old habit…the one making this day better than the others.Instead, his childhood friend decided to act like a ghost and laugh with his stupid friends about jokes the taller man couldn’t hear from afar. The blond was cautious about the hints he was sending concerning his crush on the nerd, making sure they weren’t too explicit or invisible to the public’s eyes. Yet, he hated how his chest hurt at the sight of this genius smile being the view of someone else. Don’t get him wrong, Katsuki was conscious that the two of them shared a different vision of the world and the notion of love, especially when feelings were involved.
He wouldn’t care if his high school friends were the ones to blame for forgetting his birthday, but Izuku Midoriya knew him since they were 4. These two grew up and shared many adventures with their creative imagination together. Through the years, the nerd was the one ensuring this specific habit of reaching his childhood friend in one way or another and being the first one to wish him a happy birthday. If this gesture annoyed the blond at first, he found himself waiting in front of his doorstep or checking his phone, hoping to see this habit repeating itself as a secret moment between them. The whispers on the street might spread the rumors that the two men hated each other, but the stars would always admire this heartwarming sign of two souls bonding together.
“What kind of awful friend i would be if I forget such an important event like your birthday? It’s probably the day I wait for the most in the year after mine!” Explained the freckled man last year with a bright smile, reassuring the taller figure about how this secret habit between them was supposed to last until their last breath. However, this year, the same person seemed to forget about this meaningful promise…
Katsuki shouldn’t be mad. He doesn’t have any right to express his emotions publicly and let the whole world hear about the pain in his chest when the reason for his suffering was standing a few inches away from him. The sun passed through the window slightly open, welcoming the fresh air into their face and moving the lost and messy curls owning the nerd’s face. Something was fascinating with the view of Izuku Midoriya being passionate about a topic, using his hands as a way to express the thought his mind could never describe or even the beauty of these emerald eyes.
The crimson ones found themselves lost in this ethereal forest accepting his presence, chasing the obstacles near its path to let this adventurer discover all the secrets residing in this magical place. The weather was announcing the summer season and the different path his classmates would take after graduation. The event of the previous war still echoed in their traumatized mind, being the origin of many nightmares that even therapy couldn’t heal. Everyone would speak at the end of the year, and Katsuki’s biggest fear was to see his childhood friend forgetting about the promise to open their agency together…the one they’d built since they were brats.
Beside the most mesmerizing man, was standing the two annoying shadows ruining the view. Round Cheeks, Icy Hot, and Glasses seemed to listen carefully to each of the nerd’s comments, making the jealousy rise even more in the blond’s chest. In another life where the blond has enough strength to confess, it would be him, being the center of Izuku’s world! The best thing to do was to stare away from this heartbreaking scene: the longer he watched this sad reality, the more he would suffer. After all, if his childhood friend wanted to play this game, maybe Katsuki could also pretend he’s not aware it’s his birthday. Unfortunately, a sudden hand reached his shoulders, making him groan when he recognized the familiar faces of his classmates.
“You look grumpy for someone who should be at a minimum happy for an important day like this one, don’t you think ?” Denki said as a joke, before facing a death glare coming from the crimson eyes. Pikachu always had an issue with the tone of his voice especially how loud he could be, catching everyone’s attention for a moment, including Izuku’s.
“Shut up,” replied the taller man with an annoyed expression drawing itself on his face, before deciding to calm down. He barely noticed the conversation and questions surrounding him, his crimson eyes too occupied to look into the emerald ones. It was now or never the moment to brighten his days with a few words…was it too much to ask for?
The seconds could be seen as endless minutes when Izuku was staring at him with an indescribable gaze, something he had never seen before. Before realizing it, the bell echoed In the room and let them escape from this temporary peace. Katsuki was good at pretending in public, but he couldn’t ignore how his heart was broken at the realization that his birthday was ruined by a simple selfish wish.
In a perfect world, the freckled man would’ve smiled at him and wished him a happy birthday…not staring at him as if he did something bad. However, it didn’t matter because his birthday wish was to end this day already, find his bed, and avoid any conversation about the green-haired man’s topic.
———
Izuku Midoriya had always been a shadow observing from afar his childhood friend’s adventures. Starting as strangers, before being best friends and facing the darkest period of their relationship…before finding each other and catching the lost time. Indeed, their paths met in the most unexpected way, starting as a simple “Hey, wanna be friends ?” Before turning into a whole complex relationship.
The freckled man was the one who always admired the blond, wishing to secretly be as strong and inspiring as him, in his younger days. Katsuki was all he ever wanted to be: he was the most impressive child in the neighborhood, the prettiest, and the best friend someone could have in their lives! Yet, there were no signs of jealousy…only awe and admiration toward the most important figure who made his childhood a safer place.
When High School happened, the sentiment concerning their fragile relationship ended up being the reason for their pain. Each of them took their paths in the opposite direction: Izuku described as the reserved soul and Katsuki the one catching the attention. Their previous laughs had been replaced by hateful memories based on dark glances and venom escaping the blond’s lips. That tragic day in middle school, Izuku realized how he was the only one keeping this relationship alive in his mind, especially when the other moved on….
Then, the slime accident happened and changed their fate. He got the most important gift he wanted as a child: a quirk from his favorite hero and a way to write his name in the history books. Yet, Izuku’s body moved on its own when he recognized the familiar figure of the blond in danger, signing the beginning of this new chapter. The most surprising discovery was how Katsuki stopped using him as a target for his insecurity and became silent until their paths met again in high school.
After that, their relationship started to improve as the two childhood friends created new memories. This time, something changed in these crimson eyes, almost like a part of the blond was missing this presence in his life. To this day, this impression grew stronger every time the two shadows caught each other in the room, even if Izuku never had the confirmation. However, his mind was unable to erase the previous frame of their interaction. He had the impression someone was stabbing his chest when he remembered the hope and pain mixing in the most mesmerizing iris he had ever seen. How could breathtaking jewels like these turn into faded colors, escaping from a painting and taking dust?
He would do anything to have the answer to his questions, occupying his mind the entire class. Don’t get him wrong, he was able to read like an open book in the other’s eyes but had never seen this heartbreaking expression on his face until now. Izuku wanted to have enough strength to ask him about the reason for this sudden distance between them, reminding him of the old days…but he couldn’t. Knowing his childhood friend, the blond might probably be mad and reject his attempt to make a conversation.
Izuku felt his instincts begging him to save the situation, screaming at him to do something instead of letting the other suffer….But how could he help when he knew this fight was useless with the stubborn personality of the taller man?
——-
Katsuki Bakugo didn’t show up to their casual training after class.
At this moment, the freckled man realized how something was off with his childhood friend. The blond let him know more than once that he would never miss a game to beat Izuku, even in their silly quest of rivalry. The previous hours spend like decades, waiting for a familiar shadow to show up and bring him back the hope in his chest, chasing the pain.
Unfortunately, the blond was out of reach. The memories of their past interactions resonated in his mind, noticing how the taller man was avoiding him. Izuku got an impression of deja vu, giving him a bitter taste of his own medicine without realizing it. He didn’t care, the only thing he wanted was to train with Kacchan, even if the two of them didn’t necessarily make conversation! Don’t get him wrong, the greenette wasn’t against the idea of training with some of his classmates, but the only one able to give him real advice was Katsuki. It might be seen as a selfish choice but he had no choice, so he decided to go against his will to help his classmates, hoping this pain in his chest would fade away.
———
How much time had passed since the crimson eyes were observing the slightest details about the roof over his head? Too long to count.
He was conscious about how his sudden behavior was worrying the extras, knowing himself he didn’t know if he would be able to handle a conversation without tearing up. The blond was casually this strong and stubborn presence in their lives, but always refused to express his vulnerable side. He wanted to welcome the tears and suffer in silence like he always did because of a selfish request.
The thing he hated the most was how, from all the people in the world, he had to fall in love with Izuku Midoriya. It was clear how this guy was too good for him. He was his opposite, and would never handle such a shitty behavior like Katsuki’s.
The blond was rude, direct, and aggressive while Izuku was gentle, caring, and discreet in each of his actions. After all, being seen with someone like Katsuki might be a shame for such a tender person like the nerd….but this still hurts. No matter how hard he tried, the taller man wanted to do his best to be the better version of himself, to please his childhood friend. They’ve been through a lot of obstacles, from the beginning to the current state, and survived on a thin string.
Katsuki thought things were getting better but he was lying to himself. Maybe the nerd welcomed him in his life as a close friend, but he will never be seen as more than a friend…which was rational. The only thing the golden-haired man was talented for was to destroy people and be ashamed of them or their reputation.
He would never be able to protect such an underrated jewel-like Izuku’s life, afraid of being hit with his rough hands. The entire time, the crimson eyes love losing themselves in the forest, falling for the unknown and wondering if he could be the one at the origin of some of the most beautiful smiles on the other’s face. The two men were supposed to be on better terms but it felt wrong to project themselves into a different kind of relationship if they still have a hard time figuring out their own today. The heavy sound of the pouring rain reaching the windows of his room caught his attention, realizing how his sudden absence might lead to some questions.
It wasn’t the first time the weather decided to make a selfish crisis and ruin another training that might’ve been important to their career, but the teacher preferred security over efficacity. His attention was now focused on the noisy sound escaping from the corridor, indicating how some of his classmates returned to their dorm already. These idiots were talking about everything and anything until a specific detail caught his attention, that did not leave him indifferent.
“-How unfair Aizawa ordered us to stop while we were doing fine. We have an exam to prepare and stupid weather won’t ruin my chance of getting an A. It’s my last chance to save the semester !” The voice echoed, their footsteps stopping next to Katsuki’s chamber.
“You shouldn’t be too hard on him, he’s only doing this for our protection. Consider yourself lucky you didn’t have to fight back against his order like Midoriya did. He looks different today but he should return before this weather becomes worse…” the other added with a sigh, before saying a quiet goodbye and each of them went to their dorm.
Katsuki stayed silent, trying to understand the previous revelations. Not only was he the one hiding away like a coward instead of facing the problem, but he was also putting Izuku’s life in danger! Knowing the nerd, he probably wanted to train more on himself, remembering how it’s one of their bonding activities. From the outside, the shadow of the training center reflected through the landscape, already marked by the obscure sky. It was obvious how the most rational decision was to wait for the nerd’s return…. but he couldn’t stand the idea of being the reason for the nerd’s pain.
Without thinking twice, his callous hands grabbed the stuff he needed to face this upcoming storm while his figure faded away in the corridor. Katsuki wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to do, but his day was already ruined so…he had nothing to lose.
——-
The emerald eyes glanced around the area, only to find complete silence. The previous welcoming atmosphere turned into dust due to the sudden sound of rain filling the background, reflecting the conflict inside Izuku’s heart.
He recalled the moment when Aizawa told everyone to leave this building for their safety, but the shorter man insisted on staying a little longer…using the excuse of training. Don’t get him wrong, he liked having company around but sometimes he was more of a solitary person. Being on his own helps him to handle his emotions and be alone with his thoughts and this crazy situation.
He caught himself mumbling a few times about how messy his movements were. They used to be precise and efficient, but today it seems like he was too weak to pretend. Indeed, he let the background noises protect him from the storms, while his figure rested hidden in the huge building.
He didn’t know when he started to cry, but the last thing he remembered was how he ended up putting his head behind his knees, letting his sobs resonate in the darkness. Breaking its shield had always been an easy thing when the world was observing your misery from afar, judging each of your steps. Izuku Midoriya wasn’t the exception to the rule, especially when his loved ones described him as a strong and inspirational figure. The bravest soldiers wouldn’t have a breakdown in the middle of a room too big for his small shadow, especially when it was related to their childhood friend.
Using the excuse of training was my way to change his mind and focus on something else, temporarily ignoring the pain in his chest. The freckled man hated the idea that the relationship they tried to protect for so long, ended up falling apart overnight. What was he supposed to do now? Wait a miracle with the hope of pretending this never happened between them? He was too naive. If Katsuki was distant on purpose, this implied that something was bothering him... If only the freckled man has enough strength to face the other and save this friendship that means a lot to each other.
Izuku Midoriya was a sensitive soul, but he felt complete when Katsuki Bakugo was by his side. The golden-haired man helped him in the most unexpected ways, no matter if it was by making him smile with a stupid comment or by comforting him with his presence. The taller man was stubborn on the outside, but he was the most caring man on the inside when no one was looking, despite his flaws…the same ones the freckled man adored.
He wished he could look straight into the crimson eyes and explain how Katsuki was the best thing that happened to him, despite the hard times. His lips wanted to spread so many truths and expose his unshredded tears. He needed to confess how being in love with his childhood friend was easier than breathing.
The freckled man stopped counting the number of times where his heart missed a beat when a stupid smirk met his adoring eyes. He dreamed so many times to make a proper confession, with a speech that would be naturally compared to the one he had made and repeated a million times. Izuku wanted to show the world how his heart belonged to Katsuki Bakugo…but he was too weak to do such a thing.
———
Izuku sighed, wiping the last drip of water on his body, due to the previous hot shower. He let his last tears mix with the water, before changing himself and taking a quick glimpse at the window, revealing how it was worse than he expected. He knew he should’ve returned earlier when Aizawa told him…
With a last breath, accepting his fate, he decided to take his umbrella and opened it when his footsteps reached the outside of the building. He didn’t know what to do, wondering why his childhood friend was hating him. The greenette was already anxious about tomorrow ... because it would be Katsuki’s birthday.
His scarred hands grabbed his umbrella, mumbling a few things to himself before taking a glance at the path under his eyes. It was a question of time before being safe in his dorms, but even here none of it felt like home, not when his childhood friend wasn’t by his side.
An unknown shadow appeared in the storm, even if this person was too far away to be distinctive, Izuku’s body rushed to the stranger, fearing the worst. Maybe this person lost their way, but it wouldn't make any sense, especially with chaotic weather. At first glimpse, it looks like this taller figure was shaking due to the cold of staying here for too long. Izuku raises his umbrella to discover the stranger’s identity…only to meet the familiar crimson eyes.
His heart missed a beat, his face turning pale when he realized how there were dry tears framed on his childhood friend’s face. At this moment, the previous doubts in his chest increased, letting his free hands cupping the blond’s cheeks. Katsuki looked terrible, almost like he was dead from the inside and this sight terrorized the freckled man.
“Kacchan,” he called in desperation, but the only hint of the answer was a slight movement of the other’s eyes. He hated how his instincts were telling the truth since the beginning. “Are you alright? Look at you, you’re frozen! Are you crazy, you can get sick and-”
“Why ?” Whispered the golden-haired man, letting his broken eyes meet the emerald ones. He didn’t know how much time had passed since he took this sudden decision, but it was too late to step back.
Izuku moved his head, only to find that their figures were the only ones in the landscape. The green-haired man’s fingers cupped the other’s skin, before checking if there wasn’t any fever. Hopefully, the blond didn’t show any sign of sickness but it was a question of time before saying their last goodbye under the terrible conditions of their conversation.
“When did you become so selfish to the point of making it the worst day of my life ?” Murmured the blond with a shaking tone, stepping back to take his distance. This sudden gesture was too much to handle for a broken heart like his, being too afraid to face the consequences of his unexpected confession under the rain. At this point, he wasn’t afraid of ruining his birthday, because someone already did for him…
Izuku shared a curious glance, facing another side of his childhood friend he had never seen before. Don’t get him wrong, he was conscious about how the blond was having a battle with his inner demons, but it was the first time he had enough strength to expose them to someone else’s eyes. “What are you talking about? Kacchan, you’ll catch a cold and we should-”
“I don’t give a shit about catching a cold,” he shouted with a sorrowful highlighting on his face, finally meeting the surprised emerald ones after this cat and mouse game. “Don’t pretend you care about me when you’ve been ignoring how I’ve felt the entire time. You have a fucking promise and betrayed it, so why can’t I trust your presence, giving me hell when I should ignore this pain in my chest every time you’re around ?”
This scene felt like a deja vu, a bitter frame of the past that opened a new beginning in their relationship. Years ago, All Might’s downfall was publicly exposed to the words, being an unforgettable reminder of how heroes behind their smiles, were simply humans with weakness. This impression of being a burden started to draw the blond into his insecurities, forcing him to explode at the slightest occasion when Izuku decided to play with his nerves. If the two childhood friends agreed to start a new chapter of their lives, it was a question of time before Izuku’s hugs replaced the worried question, erasing all the temporary worries.
“Kacchan…What do you mean ?” The freckled man asked, unsure about where this conversation was going. The background noises of the messy weather filled the silence, forcing them to raise their voice louder than the pouring rain, holding their umbrella tighter. “Please, talk to me, do something I can’t handle the idea of you being hurt again.”
“Stop lying straight to my face and pretending you don’t know anything! I’ve had enough of your shitty game because you created your own rules, ignoring my emotions on the line. If I knew I wouldn’t waste my time chasing after your heart and be the one you spend the rest of your life with,” he replied with a bitter taste as these words escaped unconsciously from his lips.
It’s been years and Katsuki was too tired to fight for this unrequited love. Izuku Midoriya might be the most important person in his life, but he hated the idea of giving up on him, even if this meant finding his happiness somewhere else. Katsuki Bakugo had always been sensitive when it came to love and showing his true self to his significant other.
He never projected himself in a future where someone was ready to potentially love him for his whole and not the illusion he was projecting. If one person could make him feel accepted despite his flaws, it was Izuku Midoriya…but he had enough of playing this game of waiting for the unknown.
Oh.
The freckled man immediately connected the dots and started to feel a sudden heat coloring his cheeks. His heart was beating faster, hands shaking to the point where he was barely able to hold his umbrella. His skin begged to meet the callous hands, intertwining their fingers and reassuring the other about how this impression was mutual. Izuku wasn’t sure if he was dreaming, but he noticed how there was a bittersweet sensation at the moment. Maybe he was the happiest man on earth now his childhood friend confessed his feelings…but something was off.
“Katsuki,” this time, the green-haired man used his first name, catching the other’s attention to indicate how deadly serious he was about the situation. “What day are we ?”
Katsuki wanted to run away and cry in his room, cursing the other’s name about breaking his heart in millions of pieces for giving too much hope. How could Izuku simply stare into the crimson eyes with such worries when he purposely hurt the most important person in his life? No matter how hard the golden-haired man was trying to fix the issue, he couldn’t ignore the fact he was a weak man when Izuku was around.
“You already know that, stop trying to save this situation to be the good guy when you know what you’re doing,” he objected his rough tone, revealing the exhaustion from this constant pressure on his shoulders. Loving Izuku Midoriya was considered a blessing…but the most complicated fight of his life.
“No I don’t,” answered the green-haired man with a serious tone. This time, both figures ignored the hint to go inside and protect themselves in case of a storm, being focused on each other like they were the center of each other’s world. “We already talked about how you shouldn’t keep this pain for yourself, the history might repeat itself if you don’t trust me because I sincerely want to help you.”
After all, they’ve faced this situation of misunderstanding too many times in the past years but it ended up being solved easily. What was different with this one and why does Izuku’s heart arched at the idea of seeing the salty tears rolling down these delicate cheeks he loved more than his own life? It was a casual day, so why does the blond was so vulnerable about the date-
“Today we’re the 20th of April,” he replied bitterly, without expecting anything any reaction from the shorter man next to him.
It’s been more than evident how this cat and mouse game reached its end with a final destination where the winner wins all the pride of playing with the other’s heart, being considered as a fool in love with the wrong person. After all, the nerd had been ignoring him on purpose and was suddenly acting all caring about his fate. Fuck Izuku’s empathy.
Oh.
Izuku’s shaking figure stepped back in the next second, realizing his mistake. His face turned paler, losing all his previous colors and scaring the blond who had never met such a stunned gaze with wide-open eyes. A part of him wanted to ask what was happening and if the nerd was alright, but if he was too late….Katsuki already put all his cards on the table and his last guard down, letting the freckled man put the fatal blow.
“Oh my god,” Izuku whispered to himself, letting the tears fall down his cheeks.
Without realizing it, he let his umbrella fall on the floor due to the shock and let the pouring rain meet his green curls. Under this sight, Katsuki wasn’t sure if the rain was mixing with Izuku’s tears or not…but he hated this sight. The expression on the greenette’s face transformed into a painful painting where the bright color left this mesmerizing face, turning into gray. Izuku's body didn’t know if he was shaking due to the cold or his shock, making him unable to stand correctly.
Callous hands grabbed him, bringing him closer to avoid any fall on the ground. His crimson eyes met the emerald ones and his heart broke the instant he caught the shaking figure holding tightly into his grip. The tears couldn’t stop falling down his beautiful cheeks, breaking the blond’s heart and making him feel guilty for the way he acted at the beginning of their conversation.
“I’m so sorry,” mumbled the shorter figure, too ashamed to admit his mistakes out loud. He reached the blond’s chest, scarred hands holding the tissue of his shirt tighter, too scared to let him go. “I’m so sorry Kacchan I didn’t know. If you had explained this misunderstanding to me earlier, maybe I wouldn’t have let you have the worst birthday of your life. ”
“Hold on…you lost me,” cut the other, waiting for the green-haired man to step back when he felt comfortable. He welcomed the callous fingers wiping the recent tears, even if it felt wrong to let the other comfort him when he was the one who caused this pain.
“I….” Izuku took a deep breath, ready to explain the point of view of this crazy misunderstanding that nearly ruined their lifetime relationship. “I thought it was 19th April and I swear I was about to wish you a casual happy birthday, but you started to stay distant and ignore me. I thought I did something wrong and agreed with myself that you didn’t want me in your life anymore…” He sighed. “I was scared you’d leave me behind. You’ve been such an important part of my life since our first meeting, and I can’t imagine building my future without you, the same man who supported me when no one was looking. I need you in my life like a painter needs a muse, like a writer needs his inspiration like a flower needs her sunshine to brighten the entire room.”
Oh.
Katsuki stayed silent, this time losing himself in the emotional speech happening under his eyes when the shorter man held his shirt tighter, almost like he was begging the other to listen to each of his words.
“I love you,” confessed Izuku with a genuine smile, the first one he had seen since the beginning of their conversation. It might be too early to express them out loud, but he was sure about how his feelings were sincere. “I’ve always loved you, even when the notion of soulmates was a crazy legend. I had a hard time figuring my feelings out due to our complicated past, but I’ve never been this happy now I know this is mutual.”
There was no way.
Izuku Midoriya couldn’t love someone like Katsuki Bakugo who only brings destruction everywhere he goes. Yet, he welcomed the scarred hands cupping his cheeks, wishing this fever dream was real. Suddenly, the worries about his birthday being forgotten were replaced by the tenderness of this situation. The green-haired man was standing under the same umbrella as him, protecting them from the pouring rain while their eyes refused to stay away from each other.
“You can’t,” answered the blond, forcing himself to reject this confession even if he sincerely wanted to accept it and be happy for once. “You can’t say these things without realizing the meaning behind the promises you’re sharing with me today. I wish I could bring the right amount of love you deserve, but I know you’ll never find your happiness with someone like me, who’s cursed to ruin everything I touch.”
“Katsuki Bakugo,” Izuku’s voice echoed in the small space, while their faces were separated by a few centimeters. “With me, you don’t need to pretend because I know every inch of your soul. I can recognize when you’re having a bad day by a single expression on your face. I can distinguish how you’re scared when you’re searching for my gaze in the crowd and secretly holding my hand. You need to authorize yourself to be happy and I’ll make sure to prove this truth even if you let me be a part of your world.”
Katsuki sighed, making a smirk and melting the other’s heart. It was heartwarming to see the familiar face gaining color, making Izuku fall in love even more with his childhood friend. He was ready to bring the world down just to bring this smile back, it was a promise he made to himself.
“You’ve always been a part of my world,” whispered the taller man with a soft tone. “You were just too blind to catch the hint.”
He welcomed the familiar fingers, intertwining their hands together. All their previous worries were erased the moment the blond’s umbrella fell on the floor, letting the pouring rain meet their two shadows in the landscape. Their faces revealed a bright smile, putting their forehead against each other as a natural movement, a reassuring gesture their broken souls needed.
From here, curious eyes were able to see the heartwarming scene between the two lovers reuniting in this hopeful promise. If some whispered about how these two students were about to get yelled at by Aizawa, the others decided to simply enjoy this scene coming from a romantic movie.
Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo were nothing but a mess with their sentiments, especially in this war of hearts. The freckled man had been reaching their childhood friend since the early days, being the shadow of his life. The blond might be the center of attention, but he will always have this prideful smile when the other is making progress. They’ve never really been communicative about their emotions, avoiding this topic with the fear of breaking this invisible string between them.
Yet, today signed the beginning of a new chapter for these souls who needed to be each other’s savior. All those years of suffering ended up being resolved with a chaotic love confession and delicate touch on the other’s skin, almost like it was written to their bones. The mesmerizing spirit was captured by the crimson eyes, letting the other know his presence by his simple aura. Izuku and Katsuki were two magnetic forces meant to be with each other despite the distance.
Their flaws were transformed by strength when their significant other was here by their side, making them see a new face of their personality they never knew until now. This relationship had been complex the moment love started to interfere with friendship, but the two souls agreed to lose themselves in this new journey. There were so many firsts the two childhood friends wanted to share, letting the story be writing itself.
None dare to speak, reading all the unwritten lines residing in the other’s eyes. Their fingers gently moved to hold this comforting warm closer, ignoring the pouring rain and loud sound surrounding them. Izuku’s heart started to beat faster when his eyes found the other’s lips, sensing how this sexual tension needed to be solved. However, both men wanted to make it right, especially for a first kiss under the rain like the cliches movies they used to watch in their childhood. Izuku used to envy the main protagonists for reaching such admiration from their partner, but years later it was his turn to create happiness with the only person he was able to trust.
“Kacchan,” his voice whispered in a gentle tone, indicating his hands intertwined tighter, hoping to never wake up from this fever dream. The scarlet color came to highlight the freckles on his cheeks, making the blond lose this fight, accepting his failure when the freckled man was making him fall alive for the first time in years.
“Deku,” he answered, letting his fingers leave the previous touch to reach his chin and face each other’s eyes. At this moment, the two men started to make a genuine smile, realizing how happiness was filling their chests, and decided to break this tension that was playing with their hearts.
In the next seconds, the scarred hands lost themselves in the golden spiky hair, holding them closer and realizing how their bodies were now glued together. They didn’t know who started to introduce this kiss, but the moment of realization hit them when their lips met each other in natural movements, making sure to have a reminder of this reality. The shaking hands held into the comforting presence of his childhood friend, being afraid of losing him. The callous one simply moved to caress the back of Izuku’s back, before holding him by the waist.
Their two shadows could be seen breaking the distance from afar, in the outing rain, and kissing each other like their lives were on the line. Their bodies spoke for themselves, letting their hidden feelings be expressed by the delicate movements, as their lips kept searching each other. A smile could be seen escaping from Izuku’s lips when they regained their breath, blush coloring his skin mixing with the cold, and losing himself in the beauty of this scene.
“I love you, Katsuki Bakugo,” he whispered, letting his fingers cup his lover’s cheeks in a tender gesture. He waited too many years to say those words and let the others know how loved he was. From now on, the freckled man promised himself to let the world know about this addictive love that ran in his blood. “I want you to be my first and my last, even if we have to fight the world’s toughest battles. My only request is to stay with me even when the obstacles bring us down because I know my love for you will never be enough for this decade.”
“And still, you forgot to wish me a happy birthday, freckles,” teased the blond with a soft tone, making the green-haired man laugh at his comment. The most impressive thing about their relationship is how they didn’t need to communicate with each other…a simple gaze was enough to read into the other’s mind.
Izuku rolled his eyes but decided to turn this situation to his advantage. “I’ve never been good at remembering people’s birthdays, but I know how to make it most unforgettable.”
With the other’s signal, the shorter figure let himself out on his tiptoe and crossed his atlas around the blond’s shoulders. The next thing they knew was how their lips met in a delicate kiss, before turning into something more passionate. The callous hands were both wrapped around Izuku’s back, holding him closer and hearing a quick chuckle from him. “Happy birthday, kacchan,” confessed the greenette. “Congratulations, you’ve got a boyfriend for this year but I’m not sure you can return the gift…”
“You’re such an idiot,” complained the blond before accepting how he completely forgave the nerd. “I’m not planning to return it soon, because I’m going to cherish it until the end…because I love you too, Izuku Midoriya.”
