Chapter Text
The wedding of the Hatake clan would never lack of important guest of Konoha city. The Senju clan, Uzumaki clan, Uchiha clan, Inuzuka clan etc. all invited for the ceremony of two houses marriage, their chosen children would tie knot together, received the blessing from the gods and bringing the two family closer than before.
Everyone here gives their blessing and congrats to the both families, rejoiced for their union. Some takes their seats with their partners while others chatting with their friends.
Only one person stands near the altar, expression aloof as if this wedding has nothing to deal with him.
His hand strokes the small box in his pocket, thinking if he should just leave. But even if he did, would his love come back to him? Would he still have any place in his heart?
“Kakashi, my rival, are you… good?”
Good? He feels like shit.
“I’m good.” He replies, not bother hidding his true feelings to his friend.
Gai is a good friend, he really is, but there would always be a line drawn between them; a line made by him, to distance himself from everyone else even it was unintentional. He never lets anyone get close to his heart.
Until he met him.
His hand unconsciously tightens the box, how ironic, despite the richness tying to his name - every fortune he has only fit in his palm.
He wonders if he should leave and get lost on the path of life again, maybe it would lead him back to his love.
When the music begins, it doesn’t sound much different to the last nail hit on his coffin, ready to seal his fate.
The bride, hidden behind a veil, appeared in a beautiful, glamorous wedding dress. Of course, he would appreciate it more if it wasn’t his funeral day. Her father takes her hand, leading her to the altar and lets her go, standing right next to him.
Even without looking, he's already known what the bride expression be like; a shy smile with blush on her cheeks, an image like that would have made the groom swoon if that groom wasn’t him.
Maybe he should leave, he knows his friends will help him escaped despite his head already lied on guillotine machine, ready to take his life away.
“We are gathered here today to witness the union of Hatake Kakashi and Jomae Ha-”
Suddenly the door bursts open, everyone turns their heads; some was displeased, some was confused, some was obvious pissed while his friends are either surprised and lets out a small cheer.
There stands the love of his life, looking as beautiful as the first time he saw him. His brown skin shone gold under the sunlight with sweat cling to his face, long black hair he loves to caress when they spent the nights together is tied up in high ponytail, his pretty dark eyes that he’s observed many times - knowing they are deep brown with hidden cyan in them, are blown wide open.
Many emotions quickly run through in his eyes, and Kakashi never miss any single of them.
Iruka stands there, speechless with many feelings and questions run through him all the same time.
From the first time he heard Kakashi had a fiancée, he was mad because he felt cheated, being a third person ruined someone else relationship. Even when Kakashi said it was just an arranged wedding from both families, it never sat well with him. And what if Kakashi didn’t love the soon-to-be his wife? Iruka still wouldn’t stand a chance.
Arranged marriage from both long generation families is not something to sweep under a rug.
So without trying, he gave up.
And it’s hurt, it hurst so much, he knew it was selfish of him because Kakashi is more hurt by him, betrayed by his love. When there are many things they haven’t done, haven’t gone or explored yet, Iruka's already let go without a fight.
But here he is, about to ruin someone wedding, like a homewrecker, a wedding crasher and forces Kakashi to choose without consider his feelings like his clan did to him.
Shame and guilt quickly hold him, he forces himself not to cry and utters. “Sorry, wrong room.” Which is total bullshit because almost everyone in the room knows who he is, some even threaten him before.
Just like when he gave up first, he runs away again.
“Iruka, wait!”
Kakashi quickly steps down from the altar without any hesitation, he grabs Iruka’s hand. Even if his lover gave up first, even if he wants to run away at the moment, but it didn’t change the fact he still loves him, his presence here is the proof.
“I, I…” He should know how to say it, should know what to say but whenever he stands in front of Iruka, he can't help but be speechless every time, as if his words alone won't be enough to convert his feelings for him.
So he knees down and takes the box out, he opens it and reveals the ring inside. It's a small silver ring, not expensive like what the clan gave him, but the ring is what he had earned through his part time job at a convenience store because of boredom, and it was also the first time they had met as customer and employee.
The simple ring has words engraved inside, “I love you forever”.
Kakashi whispers, “Will you marry me?” through sickness and poor.
Soon enough and as predict, there are whispers soon turned shouting, it's all but loud buzzing in his ears and from the corner of his eyes, his friends are trying to stop others intervene. Kakashi silently thanking them all, he focusses back to Iruka who has tears in his eyes and waiting for the answer.
“Yes.” Iruka lets out a choke, “Yes Kakashi, I will marry you through sickness and poor.” His eyes filled with tears as he gives him a gently smile.
Either Kakashi is delusional or he can hear the bell of the church ringing for them.
He puts the ring on his finger, the buzzing sound is getting louder – serving as a background noise for them. Both of them looks at each other, hands intertwined with a smile on their face.
With one look, they both run away, together.
Outside, instead of the beautiful wedding car waiting for them, Iruka leads Kakashi to the motorbike, it’s Kakashi motorbike that he finally has a courage to ride it.
“Maa sensei,” as usual, teasing Iruka is his favorite hobby, “wedding crasher and now motorbike rider? How naughty.”
Iruka gives him a deadpan face. “Say that again and I won’t hesitated leaving your ass here Hatake,” he hands Kakashi a helmet, “I’ll also take the ring with me.”
Kakashi lets out a dramatic gasp. “Stealing now? Now that’s very naughty.”
“First strike, Hatake, don’t make me regret saying yes.” He growls, only received a hearty chuckle from his idiot of soon to be husband.
Ignoring the shouting from the others, Iruka settles down on the bike with Kakashi behind. As the sun slowly set for the day, the two-shadow meshed as one, the engine of the bike kicks off, driving away from the scene and along the coast.
Kakashi’s arms wrap tightly around Iruka’s waist, head resting on his shoulder while he watches the sunset.
“I can take your family name instead?”
Iruka didn’t miss the melancholy in his voice, even after what happened, it’s still his father family name, no matter how many times he said he didn’t care.
“So you want to stop being a farmer and work as a fisherman I see.” He chuckles, starting with a light joke.
“Hmm, maybe, I don’t mind living near the sea since the view is very beautiful.”
Iruka blushes, knowing what Kakashi implied but refused to react to it. “Well, if you really want to, sure!”
Kakashi smiles, pressing a light kiss on his lover neck. He can taste the sea on his skin, the smell of the ocean in the air, the saltness of the wind and every scent of Iruka.
