Work Text:
FRIDAY
“I swear to god, Beale. Did you call me just to rub it in my face that you can pull off any hair color?” Beca teases.
“I will not confirm nor deny.” Chloe shrugs.
Most weeks are typically pretty chill for Chloe. Given that she only really has three more units to finish so she can graduate college— when she’s ready, that is.
With all the other Bellas being in their Junior year, they’re pretty busy. Leaving Chloe in the Bella house all alone most of the afternoon. This particular Friday, however, she had driven to her favorite salon and made an impulsive decision to bleach her hair.
Which brings us to three hours later with Chloe sitting in her car on the mall parking lot, on the phone with her girlfriend. Flaunting her new do through FaceTime.
Beca sighs, smile still in place. “That sure is gonna take some getting used to.”
“But you like it?” Chloe asks knowing how much of a sucker Beca is for her red hair.
“I love it, Beale. And I love you.” Beca says. “I’d love you even if you were balled.” she adds.
“I would NOT look good bald.” Chloe argues.
“Oh c’mon, you’d look hot.”
“You’re such a suck-up, Mitchell.” the now blonde rolls her eyes.
“Only for you, Chlo.” Beca says.
There’s a few seconds of silence as they just continue to admire each other through their screens.
“God, I wish I could just leave work and run straight home to you.” Beca whispers.
“What’s stopping you?” Chloe winks.
In that moment, Chloe hears a faint “Becky, get back to work! Break time’s over.” in the background.
“That’s what’s stopping me.” Beca says as she points behind her, most likely where Luke’s at.
“Aww, it’s fine. I still have to call Aubrey and show her the results anyway.”
“Yeah, tell her I look forward to seeing her again. And good luck with the lodge and all.”
“Will do, babe. Love you.” Chloe says as she blows a kiss to her phone.
“Love you too.”
“Wow.” Beca walks in the kitchen as soon as she gets home. Leaning on the doorway, watching Chloe cook dinner.
Looking up at the sound of her girlfriend’s voice, she can’t help but smile, running her fingers through her hair and flicking it. Striking pose after pose as Beca walks closer and closer until there are hands on her waist, pulling her flush against the girl.
“You. Look. Beautiful.” Beca punctuates each word with feather light kisses.
“Mmm, yeah?” Chloe mumbles, resting her arms on the brunette’s shoulders before capturing her lips with her own.
They are brought out of their little make out session when they hear a loud crunch by the other end of the kitchen counter.
“Oh, by all means, continue.” Amy says as she brings another chip into her mouth.
“How long have you been there?” Beca rolls her eyes, taking a step back from her girlfriend.
“Amy! Save the snacks for after dinner. I’m almost done cooking.” Chloe whines.
“Cool your jets, ging-“
A pause.
“Oh, I guess I can’t call you that anymore huh?” Amy realizes.
The couple shrugs in agreeance.
“And I can’t call you blondie because that’s what I call Posen.” Amy mutters to herself.
She thinks. “…Barbie?” she tries. “No, doesn’t sound right.”
“Rapunzel?… no, your hair isn’t even that long.”
“… Bo Peep? Nah.”
“Are you done?” Chloe asks.
“Tinkerbell!”
“You do know the blonde isn’t permanent, right?” Chloe says.
“Just, think about it. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you two are like a miniature version of Staubrey. It’s perfect!”
“Mean. We are NOT that short.” Beca scowls.
“Mmm, yeah. Keep dreaming, chicken little.” Fat Amy says as she leaves the kitchen.
“Wha-“ the brunette exclaims at the unwarranted insult. Turning to her girlfriend only to see her giggling. “You. Shut up.” she pouts.
“Make me.” Chloe challenges.
SATURDAY
Beca wakes up the next morning to her alarm ringing throughout the room. “Motherfucker.” she mumbles, stretching her arms.
Blindly snoozing the alarm, she digs her face deeper in the crook of her girlfriend’s neck, tightening her grip on the girl’s waist.
A few minutes later, the alarm sounds once again.
‘I guess I should really get up now, huh?’ Beca thinks to herself.
Finally opening eyes, she jumps straight out of the bed when she catches a glimpse of blonde hair. “Jesus.” she breathes out, hand on her heart when she realizes it’s just Chloe.
‘I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that.’ she shakes off the shock as she finally turns off her alarm, walking to her closet to get ready for class.
MONDAY
“Excuse me, excuse me, excuse me.” Beca says as she runs through the throng of people at the quad. Having been caught up in her most recent mix, she forgot about her class this afternoon. She had already been given a verbal warning from her professor in this class, and she cannot afford one more tardy or she’ll be dropped. “Sorry, dude!” she says when she accidentally shoulder checks someone in her haste.
“Dude?” the person replies causing her to stop in her tracks and turn around at the familiar voice. “What happened to babe?” Chloe teases.
Beca breathes out a laugh, walking towards her girlfriend. “Sorry, I keep forgetting you’re blonde now. Anyway, are you on the way home?”
“Yeah, just finished Russian Lit. Where are you off to?” Chloe asks.
“I gotta get to the music and arts building.” she says, pointing in the direction of her next class.
“Oh okay, what time does your next class start?”
“Uhm, in about…” the brunette checks her phone for the time. “Shit.” she says as soon as she finds out. “I have 3 minutes! I really gotta go, babe. Love you.” she rushes out, giving Chloe a quick kiss in the process, almost missing the girls lips. “Sorry for slamming into you!” Beca calls out as she starts to run past her. “And forgetting your blonde!” she adds, turning her head to look at her girlfriend before quickening her pace.
All Chloe can do is shake her head, smiling as she continues her walk back to the Bella house.
Later that night…
“God, I love the sounds you make.” Beca sighs heavily as she crawl back up her girlfriend’s body.
“And I love putting your mouth to good use.” Chloe teases, grabbing Beca’s chin and guiding her mouth to hers, tasting herself in the kiss.
“That was a lot of cardio.” the brunette talks into the kiss. “Maybe I should skip cardio with the others tomorrow?” she tries.
“Don’t you dare take advantage of my post-orgasmic state, Mitchell” Chloe says, pushing Beca to her side of the bed. Trying but failing to look offended when a smile emerges her face.
“I’m kidding. I’m kidding.” Beca says, scooting back over to her girlfriend. “Hey. I had to try.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Chloe rolls her eyes and puts her arm around the girl. Their bodies clinging to each other.
There’s a silence for a few minutes as they cool down from their recent activities. Chloe’s fingers caressing brown locks while Beca traces well-defined tanned abs.
“I have a question.” the smaller girl breaks the silence. “I mean- I’m not criticizing you in any way because your hair is beautiful, it’s just how I would- how I think I’d would feel if I had my hair colored too. But honestly, I’m not complai-“ she tries to give an explanation before asking the question.
“Hey.” Chloe stops her rambling with a gentle hand on her arm. “What was the question?”
“Is it weird that your curtains don’t match your drapes?” Beca says the words as fast as she can, inching her way backward as if bracing for impact.
“What?” Chloe asks, wide-eyed, not believing the words that came out of her girlfriend’s mouth. “You did not just ask me that!” she laughs as Beca tries to get out of the grip she has on her.
“It was a genuine question!” she argues. “Ahh!” she shouts when Chloe starts tickling her.
FOUR DAYS LATER
It takes Beca about until Thursday to get used to Chloe’s new hair. This very Friday marks a week since Chloe dyed her hair.
Bright and early, Beca is walking to their favorite cafe just off campus. She had been happy that Jesse called this morning to ask if they could switch shifts. For what reason? She doesn’t know. But she’ll take whatever chances she could get at spending more time with her girlfriend.
Opening the door, coffee in hand, she catches a glimpse of blonde hair just above the kitchen counter, crouching to get something from the freezer.
Putting the coffees down, she sneaks up behind the girl, swooping in as she stands up. “You’re up early.” she says, putting her hands blonde’s hips, inching them up the expanse of her torso underneath her shirt while planting a kiss to her shoulder. “Breakfast for two?” she mumbles against it.
The girl squeals as she turns around, almost dropping the box of waffles in her hand. “Mitchell!”
“Oh shit.” Beca backs away quickly, almost tripping on her own feet. “Aubrey!”
Aubrey can’t seem to speak at the moment. Her feet planted to the floor as she looks at Beca in horror.
“Oh my god! I’m so sorry! I thought you were arriving tomorrow. And I- I thought you were Chloe. You know, because she’s like- blonde and you’re not.” the brunette rambles as she scrambles to get the coffees. “I mean- not that you’re not blonde, I meant that you’re not Chloe because you obviously are- blonde. Because how else could I mistake you for Chloe, right?” she lets out an awkward laugh. “I’ll just- I’ll just go.” she points toward the stairs before dashing out of the kitchen.
“You did not!” Chloe exclaims, not believing what had transpired downstairs before receiving her coffee. She can see just how red her girlfriend currently is.
“I did. I did.” Beca whines and stomps toward the bed like a baby.
She sees the smile on Chloe’s face widen. Which would soon, for sure, be followed by a laugh.
“Please don’t.” Beca begs, planting face first into Chloe’s bed when she does indeed laugh. “It’s not funny!” she cries, crawling up the bed, grabbing her girlfriend’s hand that’s not holding a coffee cup and putting it around herself as she cuddles into her, throwing what could only be described as a tantrum.
Chloe pulls the brunette closer into her. “I know! I know, it’s not.” she stops laughing, sympathizing with her girlfriend.
This only lasts a couple of seconds because Chloe is bursting out laughing once again beneath Beca.
“I’m sorry! I just-“ the laughing doesn’t stop. “You felt up Aubrey!”
“Shut up!” Beca whines even more. “Why do you two happen to be wearing the same Barden shirt.” she groans.
“I don’t know, babe. I only found out that she was here this morning.” she says, her laughter starting to die down.
“Why is she here so early anyways!? Didn’t you invite her for tomorrow?” Beca argues, quickly sitting up on her knees.
“She wanted to surprise Stacie late last night.” Chloe shrugs, reiterating what she was told this morning when she herself was surprised. “But I guess in your case, you surprised her instead, huh?” she teases.
“Stop it!” she whines, hiding her face in her hands.
Beca and Chloe go down for breakfast an hour later. Beca checking every room, making sure that the first floor is Aubrey-free to avoid any awkwardness.
“She’s not here.” Chloe calls out when she notices what Beca’s.
“Oh, thank god.” the brunette sighs in relief, walking back to the kitchen where her girlfriend is turning on the stove to cook some bacon and eggs. “Where is she?” she asks as she sits on the countertop.
“She said she was meeting Stacie for early lunch somewhere.”
“Oh okay, that’s good.” Beca nods.
Waiting for the stove to get hot, Chloe walks over to the brunette. “You know,” she says as she perfectly slots herself in between Beca’s thighs. “if I were the one you felt up in the kitchen this morning, you’d be eating something other than breakfast.” she winks.
And if Beca weren’t sitting right now, her knees probably would’ve buckled.
Later that afternoon, all the Bellas except Stacie (and Aubrey) are gathered around the living room as Chloe, with the occasional help from Beca, runs some moves by the others.
“Hey, sorry we’re late.” Stacie says as she walks through the door, hand in hand with Aubrey.
“Hey! It’s fine, just wanted your guy’s opinion on some of the steps we’ll be learning tomorrow.”
“Okay, lemme see.” Stacie says, sitting on the armchair of one of the sofas.
The couple positions themselves in a line facing what would be stage-left, Chloe in front Beca. They start the dance with a step where they’re popping their asses out and pulling their right arm back as if revving an engine on every other count. This step is followed by them facing forward and sliding into a line for the next step.
“I think it’s great!” Stacie says. “Hot even.”
“Aubrey?” Chloe asks.
“Hmm?”
“What’d you think?”
“Uhh yeah, it was fine.” Aubrey answers, trying to avoid looking at Beca and vice versa.
“Fine?” Chloe questions. “What would you change?”
“Maybe the part where you guys form your line. You could maybe wave your right arm and leg out as you get in formation. Kinda like-“ she walks forward, doing the choreography with Chloe but with her revisions. “Like that. Kind of like a jellyfish.” she says.
“I think I get it.” Chloe nods. “But I want to see how it would look like. Beca?” she looks at her girlfriend.
“Yeah?”
“Would you mind doing the choreo with Bree?”
Both Aubrey’s and Beca’s heads snap to each other, wide-eyed.
“Uhh yeah. Okay.” she says awkwardly. Getting behind Aubrey, they start the choreography. Only for Aubrey to slap Beca’s arm on instinct when her fingers accidentally brushes her thigh.
“What was that?” Cynthia Rose exclaims from her spot on the couch.
“Yeah, babe. What gives? You’ve been jumpy all day.” Stacie asks.
“It’s nothing.” Aubrey says, glancing at the short brunette next to her.
Stacie looks at her, arms crossed and eyebrows raised. “Try again.”
“Beca uhm…” Chloe starts, causing the all Bellas to look at her. “She kinda…”
“Spit it out, Tinkerbell!” Fat Amy shouts.
“She kinda felt Aubrey up this morning.”
All eyes are immediately on the two in front.
“What?!” Stacie asks, incredulous.
Beca raises both her hands up in mock surrender, her voice going an octave higher, “I thought she was Chloe!”
“Wait wait wait. But what do you mean you felt her up?” Ashley asks.
“Let’s just say that it’s a good thing she didn’t get too far because I wasn’t wearing a bra.” Aubrey answers nervously.
A loud laughter erupts through the room coming from Stacie. Soon, the other Bellas follow as Aubrey and Beca stay planted in front, embarrassed.
“You gotta admit, that is pretty funny.” the tall brunette says in between laughs. “I mean, if you wanted a threesome, Mitchell. You could’ve just said so.”
The two girls’ faces scrunch in disgust at the suggestion.
Giggling, Chloe walks over to Beca, bringing the girl into a warm embrace to comfort her.
“Or foursome. You could join us, Chloe.” Stacie adds, still laughing.
Beca’s head stays resting on her girlfriend’s shoulder as she flips of the Bellas laughing, more specifically Stacie.
“I hate you guys so much.” she grumbles.
