Work Text:
Komori was both scared and nervous and, to be fair, who isn't when planning a proposal?
Usual one-on-one proposal's are hard now imagine a double one, the charms of being in a polyamory and all, it comes with double the work, he has to plan something that they both would love and he still wasn't sure he picked the right ring, and maybe he should pick something different for each and- but it didn't really matter, the brunette was lucky to have them and he wouldn't change them for anything in this life or any other.
It's been five years since they finally got together after so many misunderstandings and heartbreak and a week after their anniversary came an idea. Back then both Suna and Osamu had taken the first step and confessed their love to Motoya so it was only fair he was the one to propose. He knew a wedding would be hard for them, being not only a poly relationship but also a gay one at that, truly he wasn't even sure it was possible on Japan or anywhere really, but even so Komori wished for them to know how much he adored them, even if symbolic, a ring would be tangible, it would bring them back to his arms when in solitude, a silent reminder of their love if ever in doubt.
Just so you know, Motoya is all about big gestures, he wanted to make their lovers know indubitably that he loved them, he wanted to show them also in the lost endearing way possible, he knew Suna would probably want something domestic and private while Osamu, the family man he was, would want his mom and his brother there, he'd want to keep these memories with the people closest to him, to them. So he settled on a mid ground of sorts, something domestic and private with a big meaning and memories to cherish behind it, and so his plan goes as follows:
- Step one: Go ring shopping!
Motoya was not by any means a connoisseur in the engagement ring department, he wasn't really a jewelry guy even so, he called people that… maybe weren't any of the above either but they were married, Which was probably the next best thing.
“Hey ‘Toya! Yer’ savior’s are here!”
If someone knows both of his boyfriends like the palm of their hand it's none other than the one and only Atsumu Miya, and honestly him being married to his cousin was just a plus. He'd been waiting for them for around ten minutes by now and honestly he was so glad they arrived because Motoya was about to die due to the nerves from the whole situation.
“What took you so long? Can't you see I'm borderline having a panic attack?” “Motoya, since when are you so dramatic? We're only like ten minutes late”
“Kiyo, when did you get so
mean!?”
After visiting at least three jewelry stores and many, many failed attempts at picking something that Motoya really thought fitted his lovers, something that really represents them to their core, finally after searching for so long, he found them, the perfect rings. For Osamu he chose an oval shaped opal stone, settled in a silver band with simple yet intricate abstract flower motifs with small stones in their center, something he thought represents Osamu's reserved but loving nature. For Suna on the other hand he picked a garnet stone, cut in the same shape as Osamu's just smaller, this time the gem settled in a thin gold band adorned with smaller ovals with gems in their cores , something simple that showed just how more laid back Rintaro was.
Motoya loved his choice and he truly hoped his lovers would think the same way once they see them, truth be told, anxiety was consuming Komori whole and really he thinks he knows what they like, right? He shouldn't be so anxious plus, he's got Atsumu and kiyoomi’s help so that was double- no, triple the security, three people can't be wrong at the same time, right?
“Do you guys really think they'll like them?” The brunette says while staring deeply at the shopping bag in his hands, they didn't only weigh because of the rings but it's also the real, tangible love he feels through them. “Of course they will Motoya, I honestly think they'll worship anything you give them” kiyoomi's tone is something close to both endearment and sarcasm, and Motoya knows that his sharpness is a way of measuring the shorter only by looking up into his cousin eyes and seeing in them a « you've got this » kind of look in them. Even so… "Come on Kiyo, this is serious! Are these really good picks?” Motoya questioned, still anxious despite the reassurance he got from his cousin, and suddenly, a hand grabbed the brunette's left shoulder, it seems atsumu is going to give his verdict.
“Toya let me tell ya’, I know those two like I know myself, and if I'm sure of one thing is that they're gonna love those rings until the day they die.” The blonde did hand gestures that were honestly a bit too dramatic, even for him. But nonetheless the way he spoke and just how sure he sounded, the brunette supposed he just needs this, the constant reassurance and silent you've got this, it all makes him feel complete and confident and it's like the best of both worlds were there to help him.
Yeah he loves their rings.
- Step two: pick a place!
You see, the brunette knew what place he wanted to propose at since day one, the magical place was none other than the location they had first got together, it was exactly in a December night, Motoya remembers how it was already snowing and the, former, couple had called him to none other than onigiri Miya and then the rest is history, they've been in love ever since.
Of course making a “reservation” for them only would raise his partner's suspicion, so he came up with a plan, you see the best way of hiding something is doing so in plain sight. He contacted two of his partner's best friends, Aran Ojiro and Kita Shinsuke and asked them to aid him in his predicament.
You should know that faking a proposal is out of the charts, after all the older two are already happily married and have been for years, so they came up with a plan, a simple and sweet, Aran called Osamu and asked him for a full restaurant reservation, saying both him and Kita planned for something akin to a Inarizaki volleyball team reunion after so many years, it was of course the perfect excuse to gather the people closest to Osamu and Suna, a perfect plan really, Komori mentally patted himself on the back for coming up with it.
Once he heard back from the older couple and got the green light to continue his plan he passed on to step Three.
- Step Three: propose!
Okay, maybe there were steps in between that Motoya would rather not to remember, like the way he almost got caught while trying to gather everyone close to his lovers because, dumb old Toya could help it but to make a list with everyone's name and titled “proposal step 2.5” and, he also couldn't help it but to forget it on the counter, believe him when he says that his heart stopped for a second when in the middle of practice he remembered his mistake and really, he had been lucky to be the last one to leave their apartment that day. In the end he'd had to make up an excuse to leave early to get that stupid list. But now all that is over, the day is finally here and he'd make sure to get everything perfect, he even bought train tickets so Osamu's mom and Rin’s little sister could be here to share the happiness of the day.
Motoya had told his lovers that he would be arriving a bit late to the reunion, after all he was their supposed plus one, he didn't really give them more reason other than “I have to pick something up at the store”. In reality he'd gone to pick up mama Miya and Rin's sister from the train station. Once they were close to onigiri Miya he could feel the dread of rejection rain over him, he was really doing this, he's got everything planned but what if, and only if they didn't like this? What if he'd fucked up somehow or he might have assumed something that wasn't there and he isn't an insecure guy by any means really, but maybe…
“Oh dear, ya’ have nothing to be afraid of, y’know?” Miss Airi, Osamu's mother, must have sensed his anxiety and placed a reassuring hand over his shoulder while saying those words with a soft voice and her familiar Kansai accent that made Motoya think of how a mother's reassuring words are supposed to feel like. She was next to him on the passenger seat and looking at him with a smile, “I know Miss I just- I can't really help it…”
Motoya pulled up at onigiri Miya’s tiny parking lot and sighed once the car came to a stop.
“Miss Miya’s right Toya! You better give Rin the best proposal ever !” Megumi, Rintaro's sisters screamed from the back seat, she had taking a liking to call Motoya by as many nicknames as possible and even though her reassuring were screamed suspiciously close to his ear he could still find himself endeared by them. He thought about this, about how these people would soon, hopefully, become part of his family too and his heart grew warm, he could do this.
He was ready.
When the three of them stepped inside the vibe of the restaurant changed completely, his partners were obviously surprised but happy nonetheless, and confused too, but everything became clear once Motoya asked for a minute of silence, he had something to say.
The brunette asked his lovers to step closer to him and in front of their closest friend and family he kneeled to the ground and pulled out the rings, watching intently at the way Rin covered his mouth with his hands and how Osamu’s eyes grew wide and, with a shaky voice recited the words he'd so carefully practiced:
“Suna Rintaro, Miya Osamu, I want you both to know that- that ever since the day you asked me to be part of this amazing relationship I've been the happiest man alive and that, if I had to put a name to love it would be yours” His breath shaked and his eyes watered a little. “The only thing that would make me happier than having you both by my side would-” The brunette realizes now that no amount of practice would make this easier. “would be to know that you would marry me so… Rin, Samu, will you marry me?”
One second…. And the another one… and then…
Then Motoya got forced to his feet by his partners powerful arms and then pulled into a hug, a tight warm hug.
Rin was the first one to speak, his voice just as shaky as komori’s was. “toya! God Toya I love you, fuck of course I will marry you” the taller of the three pressed a kiss to Motoya’s cheek and snuggled closer to him.
“Do we really make you that happy love? Of course I will marry you, love” Osamu was the next to speak, he looked so soft like this, starting at Motoya and Rin, who had buried his head on the shorter’s neck, there was this feeling between the three of them, even if they were surrounded by their loved ones this moment, this second it just felt like they were the only ones in the world. Osamu then closes the distance and preses his lips against Motoya's, it feels so warm and so good.
Having both of them in his arms, knowing they're his to keep, the warmth of Rin's body against his and Osamu's consuming and breathtaking kiss it's, in Motoya's dictionary the definition of perfection.
He loves them like he never loved anything before and will never love anything other than them.
They're his and he's theirs.
There is nothing more to say.
It's just love.
