Work Text:
You've been an employee of the I.M.P for a while, after you were hired by Blitzø. Since you were still fairly new Blitzø was teaching you how to be a good assassin. So far all you've done was training, and you've never been on a real mission.
Today was the day for you to go on your first job. You were going with just Blitzø.
Now, you thought you would be terrified the day this happened. But you're actually quite confident.
This job was going to be easy! Sure, there's 2 targets, but they should be together. And all you have to do is kill one guy. Just one. Blitzø will get the other one.
You got this.
"You ready?"
You realize you were zoning out when you hear Blitzø's voice.
"Yeah. Definitely."
You guys arrive where the targets reside. It's kind of a busy place.. it's not crowded but there's definitely people around. It seems like a random street, maybe in Europe? You have no clue.
"Remember, you get the shorter one. The one with brown hair."
You nod, as you find a hiding place. It's behind a bush, but it gives you a clear view of the whole street. You could spot the target pretty easily. You remember to take deep breaths, and you raise your gun to get ready to aim.
Blitzø is way ahead of you, and he shoots a bullet towards his target. You were a bit caught off guard by the gunshot, it was a lot louder than you expected, which now the public is panicked. Your target, who you didn't know had a gun, whipped around, saw you, and shot you.
He shot you right in your side. Your ears started to ring, but you could hear Blitzø's muffled voice.
"Oh, fuck!"
Your eyes start to close. You just got shot! You just got fucking shot! This really isn't good..
You hear another gunshot, but this time it was from Blitzø's gun. He shot the target you were supposed to hit. As you're losing blood, Blitzø opens the portal back to hell, and puts his shirt over your wound to stop the bleeding. That should work for now, hopefully.
Once your eyes open again you can see that you're outside of the I.M.P headquarters. It's.. a lot blurrier than you remember. Maybe that's just your vision.. Gosh, are you dying? No, you can't be.
"Kid, you had one job!"
He touched his palm to his face, clearly disappointed. Once you snapped out of your anxiety-filled thoughts, he spoke again.
"Wh-what happened?! You could've had the shot!"
You definitely could've had the shot..You had looked up to Blitzø so much.. You feel kind of embarrassed to get shot in front of him. You feel embarrassed to get shot at all. Maybe being an assasin wasn't for you.
You weren't really in the mood to talk, but you clearly had to defend yourself.
"I- I'm not sure.. It all happened so fast after your bullet shot the other one had a gun, I didn't know he did, I-"
"You should've shot it earlier! Before he pulled out his gun! Then maybe we wouldn't be in this situation.. I don't want to have to deal with this right now!"
Blitzø grumbled to himself as he looked at your wound. Blitzø clearly wasn't feeling sympathetic. But that really isn't helpful. You're crying now, because of a mixture of sadness and pain. It's over now, there's nothing you guys can do to change what has already happened. You say one last thing to try to change his mind.
"Look, I'm sorry, okay?! I'm sorry.. I didn't know-"
Blitzø sighed. He carried you through the I.M.P doors. Your mind feels like it's spinning, you definitely can't think straight. Suddenly you found yourself terribly mad at Blitzø, not sad anymore like you were a second ago.
You decided to speak out, make him feel bad, since he's been so mean to you. It feels a little mean, but he was mean first. That.. makes sense, right?
"Maybe you could've defended me, like you're supposed to! Maybe you could've told me beforehand, 'oh they probably have guns by the way', or.. just-SOMETHING! You could have saved me but you didn't!"
You didn't really blame Blitzø. But he blamed you.
Blitzø stopped walking. He stopped for a good few seconds, before replying. You noticed his gaze soften.
"I did all that I could."
You looked at him. You clearly weren't thinking straight in the moment.. Then he started walking again. You reply, suddenly feeling a bit more woozy now that you were moving.
"I tried my best, okay?! Yes, I could've been better but so could you! And it's over now! I can't do anything, we already messed up! Maybe you shouldn't have brought me on this stupid mission anyway!"
Why did you say that last bit? You've always wanted to go on a real mission. You begged Blitzø to let you come with.
Blitzø seemed to have stopped talking completely as he brought you inside, and to your room. On the way there you saw Loona still awake, on the couch. What was she doing awake at this hour?
Blitzø brought you to your bed, and wrapped some gauze around the wound. He also put some other stuff on it, which you weren't sure what it was, but you trusted Blitzø enough to tend to your wounds.
Although, judging by what you've been saying to him tonight, it sounded like you didn't trust him one bit. You really do trust him, though.
After Blitzø treated you, he walked out. Well, he went to walk out. But then he looked back at you a couple of times, like he wanted to say something. But then he finally exited without saying a word.
"It's about time he shut up and left."
You mumbled to yourself. Then you got curious if he was talking about you to Loona. He definitely would.
You decided you would go up next to your door to try to hear something. There was no way you were sleeping anyways, not with all that you just went through.
You got on the floor and started to sort of crawl over to the door. There was no way you were walking.
Then you heard Blitzø talking to Loona. It was faint, but you could make out what they were saying pretty well.
"I can't believe they got themself shot like that! The task was simple! Even moxxie hasn't been shot before!"
He compared you to moxxie? At least moxxie became a really good assassin even after he fumbled a shot like, one time. What if you never become a good assassin? Are you even going to become an assassin after today? Suddenly you hear Loona's voice.
"Blitzø, not everyone is perfect. Not everyone's gonna pass with flying colors on their first mission. Give them a break, dad."
Blitzø paused for a second. You weren't sure if it was because he was actually thinking about his actions, or if it was because Loona called him dad.
Although, Loona did have a good point.
"Well, then they were saying it was my fault! That I should've been better.."
You could hear him sit down on the floor, leaning against something. You sort of feel bad for saying those things. They really weren't true. He did all he could in the moment, you were just.. mad.
"I really should have kept them safe. And I shouldn't have given them a job with multiple targets involved. And maybe the rest of the I.M.P should've came. It was too ambitious thinking they could do this with just me."
Loona sighed. Knowing Loona, she just wants Blitzø to shut up and go to sleep so she could go back to whatever she was doing. But she also definitely wants her to dad to feel better.
"Gosh, blitzø, it's nobody's fault! Accidents happen."
Blitzø seemed to be listening now. At least, that shut him up for a second. And Loona didn't even call him dad this time.
"I'm going to go for a walk."
You heard him bolt out of the door. Loona sighed. But after that, suddenly everything was quiet. It was kind of weird. The only noise in the entire building was the ac.
Now that you were alone with your thoughts for basically the first time since you got shot, you weren't really sure what you felt. Tears started coming from your eyes, and a lot of them.
Finally you figured out what you've been feeling. You felt sorry. All of this was caused by you not shooting in time.. You really shouldn't have said those things to Blitzø. It is your fault.
Then you remember what Loona told Blitzø. About how it was nobody's fault. You know, Loona seems to be the most stable one in this situation. You and Blitzø both have so many different emotions about the whole thing that it's hard to be rational about things.
You slowly open the door out of your room. Maybe Loona could help. You figure you won't talk about it unless she brings it up. You just need some amount of comfort, even if it's just being near someone comforting.
As you tiptoe through the hallway, careful to not wake up the other employees, you find yourself next to the couch, where loona is. She's watching some television show you've never heard of. She clearly noticed you, but didn't say a word.
"Hey, Loona? Could I sleep on the couch with you tonight?"
Loona shrugged.
"Yeah, sure, knock yourself out."
She turned off the TV, then she moved to one side to let you crawl on next to her. You thought she would say something, but she didn't say a word. You just laid together in silence, as you drifted to sleep.
It was actually pretty peaceful. You didn't have to worry about explaining yourself or anything. You could just sleep with the warmth of Loona's fur against your skin. It was nice.
While you were fast asleep, Blitzø got back from his walk. He saw you and Loona, which was a bit surprising to him. You two never really hang out or anything. But Blitzø was just glad you seemed to be happy in the moment.
Blitzø thinks that the walk really helped him. He thought about everything that he could've done better and that he will do better. And he really does feel bad.
He figures that in the morning he can apologize, check on your wound, and everything will be fine again. And he can take you on another mission someday, and just be more careful. Well, that is if you even want to go on another one. That mission might've scared you away from your dream.
But if you do, Blitzø will help you with whatever your new dreams are. Everything will work out in the end.
You and the rest of the I.M.P will figure everything out together.
