Chapter Text
“I really don’t want to do this.” Lee groaned as they exited the elevator. “We have to tell him, you know that.” Amanda said as they walked towards Billy’s office. “I know, I know. I just don’t want him to be upset that we hid being married for this long.” Lee sighed. “I think he’s suspected we’ve been in a relationship for longer than we have been.” Amanda said, making Lee laugh. “You’re probably right. I still don’t think that he’ll be too happy that we hid it.” Lee told her as he opened the door to the bullpen. “Maybe, but my instincts are telling me that he’ll get over it pretty quick.” Amanda assured him. “Let’s get this over with.” Lee said and held out his hand to her. She looked at him quizzically before happily threading their fingers together. They had never held hands in the office like this before. “No point in hiding it any more.” Lee said, knowing what she was thinking, before bringing their hands up to his lips and kissing her knuckle where her engagement and wedding rings proudly sat. She loved that she would finally get to wear them all the time. “I could get used to this.” she smiled at him. “Oh, you better get used to it Mrs. Stetson. I plan on doing this quite often now.” he teased before knocking on Billy’s door and pushing it open.
“Good morning, Scarecrow, Amanda.” Billy greeting them. “Good morning, Sir.” Amanda smiled. “Morning, Billy. Billy, I….. we, have something to tell you.” Lee stumbled over his words as he sat next down next to Amanda. “I gathered that much when you asked for a meeting, Scarecrow. What is it?” he asked concerned. He had never known Lee to trip over his words like this before. He had his suspicions but he didn’t want to jump to conclusions. “Well…. Today marks the first time I worked with Amanda.” Lee explained slowly. “Congratulations, Amanda. What has it been, 5, 6, years since Lee roped you into this agency?” Billy congratulated her, interrupting Lee. “6 years, Sir.” Amanda replied proudly. “The years sure have flown by with you around.” Billy told her as Francine walked in. “Oh, I’m sorry. I’ll come back later.” she said quickly but Amanda stopped her. “Please stay, Francine. Then we won’t have to tell you too.” Amanda said with a laugh. Francine nodded with a confused expression. “They were just telling me how Amanda’s been with us 6 years today.” Billy brought her up to date on the conversation. “That long already? I could’ve sworn it was yesterday you came traipsing in here.” she asked with a teasing smile, making Amanda laugh. “Let me finish this time, would ya Billy?” Lee huffed. “Go on then, Lee.” Billy told him. “Today also marks another anniversary.” Lee said, pausing to let Amanda finish the announcement. “Our 2nd wedding anniversary.” Amanda finished sweetly as Lee took her hand and held it up for them to see the rings. “I never thought I’d see the day the infamous Scarecrow would settle down.” Francine laughed before congratulating them. Billy also congratulated them before pulling out his wallet and handing Francine a crisp, $100 dollar bill. “What’s that about?” Lee asked curiously. “Well you see, we had a little bet going about when the two of you would tell us that you were together.” Francine said with a wink. “And here I thought we did a pretty good job hiding it.” Lee said shaking his head. “Well we are surrounded by people who spy for a living, Sweetheart. I told you that they would figure it out for themselves.” Amanda laughed. “We’ve suspected for a couple months, Lee. Neither of us thought that you were married though.” Billy chuckled. “Yeah, that was definitely a surprise.” Francine told them. “Well….. we have another surprise that I don’t think either of you will be expecting.” Lee said mysteriously. Francine didn’t miss the quick glance he stole at Amanda’s abdomen. She locked eyes with Amanda and she gave her a small nod. “You’re kidding me! That’s great news, guys.” Francine exclaimed before hugging Lee. “What did I miss?” Billy asked perplexed. “What Lee was trying to say, Sir, is that we’re having a baby.” Amanda said beaming as Francine hugged her. “That is wonderful news! But this means some big changes.” Billy said holding out a hand to Lee. Lee took it and shook it. “Don’t worry, Billy. We all ready talked about it and Amanda is ready to go on desk duty effective immediately.” Lee said with a wink. “That’s right, we don’t want anything happening to Baby Scarecrow or Mini Mrs. King that could’ve been prevented.” Billy said in a warm, fatherly tone. “Thank you, Sir. Baby Scarecrow…. I like the sound of that.” Amanda said contently before leaning into Lee’s side who wrapped his arm around her. “We’re not even to get a talking to about keeping this a secret?” Lee questioned. “No, it never affected your work and I know you didn’t have an ill intentions keeping it a secret. And seeing that you haven’t let it affect your work so far I’m not going to terminate your partnership and break up my favorite duo.” Billy said as he perched on the edge of his desk. “Thanks, Billy.” Lee said as he breathed a sigh of relief. “Since we have you both together… we do have a question to ask you two.” Amanda spoke up. “What’s that?” Francine asked curiously. “How would you two like to godparents?” Lee asked grinning. “Seriously?” Francine squealed. “Seriously.” Amanda replied laughing. “Well I know I would be honored!” she exclaimed. “I would be honored too.” Billy told them emotionally. “I bet your Mother is thrilled, Amanda.” Billy said. “Oh, Dotty is beyond thrilled.” Lee answered for her. “She’s already done so much shopping.” Amanda said shaking her head. “Billy, I’m taking the rest of the afternoon off.” Francine announced before rushing out of the office. “Where do you think she’s going in such a hurry?” Lee asked. “Shopping!” she called over her shoulder as she pulled the door closed. “Well Amanda, I think between Mrs. West and Francine you and Lee will hardly have to buy anything for Baby Scarecrow.” Billy said before they all burst into laughter.
