Chapter 2: Mr. Blue Sky
Summary:
We are introduced to some of the Toons’ relationships with Dandy. Vee hosts a gameshow, and Toodles and Goob play with Pebbles.

“What is Dandy’s full name?” Vee asked, then immediately threw the paper question card to the ground. “Next question. What is the highest grossing movie ever?”
“Dandicus Dancifer?.. Or.. I mean.. Titanic?” Brightney said, after pressing the button.
“Incorrect. Scraps and Astro, you now-“
“Hold on now, hold on! Why’d you skip-“
“Sorry, but not important nor relevant, Brightney,” Vee interrupted back. “Scraps a-“
“Vee.. do you really hate Dandy that much?” Astro quietly asked.
“Astro.. I’m..” she sighed, shaking her head. “He shouldn’t have left us like that. He’s suspicious for leaving so long, and he’s always been suspicious.”
“He’s only been gone for a month..” Astro mumbled.
“That’s a long time, Astro! How long will you let this go on for?!” Vee exclaimed, with a worried expression on her face.
“We have this conversation every other day,” Brightney complained, resting her head on the palm of her hand.
“Well, we wouldn’t if we could actually broadcast this gameshow! And we can’t, because Dandy’s missing!” Vee replied.
There was a silence that hung throughout the room.
Vee took a sharp breath and straightened her bow tie and her posture, putting on a smile.
“Scraps and Astro, you now have a chance to steal. What is the highest grossing movie ever?”

Toodles was running as fast as she could, the damp grass staining the bottom of her dress. The sky was blue with the sun hanging high in the sky, not a cloud in sight.
Just a few more steps..!
Toodles finally reached the top of the hill, gasping for air. “Yippee!”
She plopped down onto the grass, her hands and legs into a starfish sort of shape.
Pebble bounded onto Toodles, jumping up and down around her. “Arf Arf Arf!”
“Okay, okay, okay, Pebble, stop licking me!” Toodles giggled.
Suddenly, Pebble got whipped away from Toodles’ arms. “Pebble?!”
She looked to her right to see what had grabbed him, only to be met with Goob.
“Hi, Goob!” Toodles said, jumping up to her feet, the exhaustion seemingly gone from her body.
Goob walked up to Toodles, still hugging Pebbles. “Do you wanna roll down the hill with me??”
“OOH THAT SOUNDS LIKE SO MUCH FUN!!!” Toodles exclaimed.
Before they could do anything, Pebble squirmed out of Goob’s arms, soaring halfway down the hill from the altitude. He had no particularl reaction when hitting the ground and kept bounding on forward, determined.
“..What’s he doing?” Toodles asked.
Goob tilted his head. “Oh.. I’m not sure.”
Toodles squinted, trying to make out what Pebbles was chasing after. Her eyes shot wide open and she gasped when she saw it, slowly walking in her and Goob’s direction.
“Goob!! Goob!!!” She said, tugging on his arm.
“What? What is it??” Goob replied.
“IT’S DANDY!”
“Oh wow, really? No kidding??” Goob said, surprised.
“Yeah! Come on, last one there is a rotten egg,” Toodles chirped, laying down again and rolling down the hill.
*WEEEEEEEEE*
“Toodles? Goob? Are you alright?”
Toodles blinked repeatedly, trying to get her mind back together. “Bleh..” She felt dizzy from that hill. She shook her head, standing up, while Goob was still recovering.
“Worth it!” She beamed.
There was a pause for a moment, and then Toodles jumped when she realized who she was talking to. “OHMYGOODNESSDANDY???WHEREWEREYOU???”
Goob slowly got up. “You’ve been gone for a month… That’s so not cool..”
Dandy sighed. “Sorry, you two. I actually have some bad news..”
“Bad news? Oh no! What is it?..” Goob asked.
“I’ll tell you at the same time as everyone else. I’ll gather you all up in the building’s main entrance room and then i promise I’ll fill you in, ok?”
They both nodded. “That sounds good,” Goob replied.

i am physically dizzy from writing the characters being dizzy 😭😵💫 this is like me when I’m drawing a character making a face and i also do that face💀

I went on a road trip for a week! I was also sort of trying to put if off until the new characters came out so I could actually see them,, and know their personality n stuff,BUT the update came out a lot sooner than I expected and luckily I was able to incorporate them into the story easily!
Also I took adhd meds for the first time ever today, and honestly, they helped alot! I was able to start and finish a felted goob, which im really proud of, and hopefully the meds will help me upload chapters a bit more!
However, don’t expect me to upload chapters a lot,, I HATE having to put out chapters lots and lots, so expect extremely long breaks. I may even lose interest and just decide not to continue but I’d definitely tell u all if that happened! I don’t think it will though^_^
ALSO I FINALLY BOUGHT GOOB IM SO HAPPY HE WAS SUCH A GOOD INVESTMENT!!!

Chapter Text
Flutter was already in the entrance room with Goob and Toodles.
As Dandy walked through the building, he couldn’t help but smile. It felt so strange. He remembered everything about the whole building, but he hadn’t been here be-
in a while.
“I’m telling you, Rodger. He is in our walls . There’s no other solution. Where else could he be?”
“Glisten?”
Glisten looked at Dandy, blinking in surprise. He quickly stood up straight and tried to look unfazed.
“Oh.. Dandy. You’re back,” he scoffed.
Dandy chuckled. “Look, I’ll tell you two everything, i just need to gather everyone into the main entrance room.”
On the way out of the room, Rodger quickly poked Dandy.
“What?” Dandy asked.
Rodger looked away embarassedly. “Ah. Just wanted to check if you were.. real.. You’ve been gone for far too long- you’d better have a good explanation,” he remarked, half-jokingly.
Dandy only smiled wider. “Don’t worry- I will! Oh, and, where is everyone else?”
“You came at a good time, Vee’s hosting a gameshow, actually. Everyone should be in her gameshow room.”
Dandy nodded. “Thanks, Rodger.”
Dandy took a deep breath before opening the door. He hadn’t the faintest idea how any of them would react.
He gingerly pushed open the door, stepping in.
There was a collective gasp.
Vee’s eyes had fire in them. “You,” she hissed, her tail arched up defensively. “Where were you, Dandicus?”
Dandy frowned spitefully, a bit confused. “What is your deal? I’ll tell you everything once you all gather in the entrance area.”
Vee opened her mouth to speak, then desperately sighed when the Toons started crowding around Dandy.
“Dandy, is it really you?!”
“It’s so good to see you! (You didn’t have to leave like that..)”
“You must have been hard at work, I guess.”
“I HATE YOU DANDY!!!!!!”
“Dandy?..”
Astro was quieter, at the edge of the crowd. Dandy could only focus on him. “Hey, Astro.”
Astro smiled softly. “I missed you, a lot.”
“Yeah,” Dandy replied.
“Tell us the truth now, Dandy,” Vee interrupted, jumping in between them.
Dandy rolled his eyes. “Okay, okay, just follow me.”

Chapter 4: still can’t think of ideas 😍

Very short chapter - Dandy explains where he was this past month.

I think I might be spoiling too much with how suspicious dandy is already by chapter 4 lol-

Chapter Text
“Okay, spit it out.”
Vee waited for Dandy to speak, staring at him with hatred.
“Well..” Dandy cleared his throat. “I have quite a bit to say!.. You see, while you were all here, safe and happy, I was fighting for my life, just trying to survive… ”
He paused for dramatic effect, his hand on his forehead, leaning back.
He glanced over to the Toons.
“To survive.. the.. monsters..”
Silence.
“The horrible monsters..”
Vee felt like throwing herself off of a cliff with how much secondhand embarrassment she was feeling.
Dandy stood back up. “But Dandy, what monsters?” He said in a high-pitched voice. In his normal voice, he continued, “Well, you’re going to be terrified when I tell you this.”
“The monsters.. are YOU!.. sort of.”
Nobody seemed intrigued at that, in fact, very unimpressed.
Dandy sighed. “Alright. If that’s how it’ll be. Let me really explain. I went to Gardenview. It was just meant to be a vacation, a break. But I found out- something had corrupted the old mascot costumes, that turned them hostile. And funnily enough- it was Ichor. ”
The Toons now seemed intrigued.
“Wait, really? But that can’t be possible, can it? Ichor is what fuels us!” Boxten worried.
Shelly furrowed her brow. “Is it possible that it could have come from wilted or.. somehow poisoned Ichor plants?”
“Ichor plants?” Dandy mumbled.
Shelly looked at Dandy with a confused expression, like it should be obvious to him. “The plants that Ichor come from. Are you alright? Didn’t your Toon Handler tell you?”
Dandy chuckled nervously. “Ahaha, I must have forgotten with all that time away from here.”
Shelly looked at him with a dubious expression. “Oh. Right.”

either way I’ll post it sometime soon, I don’t upload nearly enough but once we’re out of the Boring Filler/Information Chapters I’ll prolly post more 😀
Chapter 5: Going Down

Only retcon is that the toons weren’t outside in that one chapter cus i lowkey forgot about the fact there’s like a whole ahh train 🙏lmao. Dandy wasn’t outside all this time, he was instead just MISSING ok. Like down inside of gardenview, NOT outside.
(To be fully serious though, thank you guys for all the love on this fic! Sorry to keep at least maybe one person waiting for OVER A YEAR just to find one chapter. like what the heck. Since writing the last chapter, I’ve joined about 4 separate fandoms and left 2 of them 😭. It’s been a while huh)

“Anyways,” Dandy continued, “As I was saying, these monsters have been roaming around the lower floors of Gardenview, that’s why I haven’t let you on any lower floors. I think it’s about time we investigate what these monsters can do. I’ve done a bit of researching myself, and it seems like the further the floor, the faultier it gets- Ichor leaks, blackouts, and more machines to support the old elevators. And the biggest of all, the elevators don’t even work until you’ve fixed every machine on the floor! I mean, thank goodness they installed those..”
“What is there to investigate? Why go down to any floors anymore if we’ve got monsters roaming around? We have bedrooms and a kitchen up here. We’ll be fine without visiting them,” Cosmo piped up.
Dandy didn’t seem to know how to respond to that. “Uhh… I mean.. Maybe we can find a way to get the monsters to leave if we go down there, right? We might as well check it out..”
“Well, I’m not going,” Cosmo said.
Dandy shrugged. “Okay. That’s.. Fine.”
“I’ll stay too,” Sprout said.
“No! No, no. You don’t need to stay. You should come with us!” Dandy quickly responded.
“Why am I so much more important than Cosmo?” Sprout asked.
“Well, no, I just, y’know, I think the main characters should definitely come, since this is such an important thing in Gardenview..”
Sprout sighed. “I’ll admit it, I do want to come. But if Cosmo isn’t-”
“No, Sprout, I’ll be fine. Go ahead,” Cosmo said.
“But-”
“Please! I’ll be okay! I promise!”
“..Alright,” Sprout said.
“So, I assume everyone else is OK with coming..” Dandy said.
“What happened to the weight limit?” Brightney asked. “We can only bring along 8 toons, surely.”
Dandy shook his head. “You’re forgetting that we have 3 elevators. We can go down in groups around the same time.”
“No way,” Brightney said. “Isn’t it safer if we just take one elevator with you for the first time?”
Dandy seemed annoyed at that. “Sure, sure, whatever. The first time. Anyways, then I guess we have to decide who’s coming with me. All 4- Uh, 5 of the Main Characters, me, and two others.”
“I’ll go! Please?” Rodger blurted. “I’d love to research this..”
“Yeaaah, fine.” (Rodger subtly pumped his fist in celebration.)
“I’ll volunteer,” Scraps said. “I bet I’d be great at surviving.”
“What about me?” Glisten added. “I’ll do everything well..”
“I’m fast, and.. I really want to clean those elevators anyways..” Tisha volunteered.
“No, I’LL go.” Brusha scoffed. “You’re going to need a real brilliant mind to help you.”
Dandy was hesitant. There were a lot of Toons, and he didn’t quite know which to pick. Scraps was pretty savvy and good at surviving.. Tisha wouldn’t be the worst choice, but all she’d do was clean, Dandy thought. Maybe even Boxten? ..He might be way too scared. Brusha? Gigi? Raz-
“Brightney will come with us,” Vee announced.
“What? You can’t just decide who comes!” Brusha argued.
“Who says I can’t? Dandy couldn’t decide, and I did, what’s the problem?”
Brusha rolled her eyes.
“Let’s just go already. I want to know what all this is about,” Vee said.

The elevator loudly descended. It was musty and old, but the Toons had been using these elevators all the time since Gardenview shut down. The weight limit had gotten lighter, and they’d gotten rustier, but they still worked fine. Something was different about the elevators now. The maintenance doors on the floor at the back didn’t have a padlock on them anymore. The TV in the corner that usually played cartoons was a quiet static, and the tape player underneath the monitor was intensely scratched up. Weirdest of all, there were claw marks. Claw marks underneath the door with dried Ichor deep in the grooves. So many odd, tiny details.
The elevator doors opened. “Okay, so as I said, the elevator doors don’t work until you finish all the machines. Then we can go back in and go further.”
“..What’s the goal?” Astro asked.
Dandy paused. “The goal? Well, the goal is to survive and research the monsters. There doesn’t have to be a goal. I- Maybe we should just try it for a bit.”
“Can you tell us more about the monsters?” Sprout asked.
“Well, for the earlier floors, there’s two monsters each. They can hurt you, but I don’t know how many times before you die.”
“DIE?” Shelly blurted.
“Oh, haha, don’t worry. When you die to them, you’ll just show up right back in the elevator back at the main floor,” Dandy explained.
“What do you mean? That’s impossible,” Sprout replied.
Dandy shrugged. “I don’t know. It just happens.”
Vee shook her head. “Dandy, this is so suspicious! You can’t just say we CAN’T DIE and brush that off! Isn’t any of this weird to you?!”
“Well, it was, at first, I guess,” Dandy said it like it was nothing.
“Come on, let’s go,” said Rodger. “I’m so intrigued!”
“Not like Rodger is handling it more serious than I am,” Dandy mumbled.
