A Moment of Care: Shun’s headache scene

Summary:

It is an elaborate scene from episode 2, when Shun had a headache and Dai got him the meds.

I have taken some liberties but tried to keep Shun as much of a black cat as possible.

Notes:

Enjoy reading.

Work Text:

The sun was setting, casting a warm, amber glow through the windows of the beachside house where the cast of "The Boyfriend" was staying. The cosy living room, usually filled with some kind of laughter and chatter, felt quieter today. Shun, seated on the couch, had his head resting in his hands. He had been feeling a headache creeping up all afternoon, making it hard for him to participate in the group activities and making him more grumpy. He was quite visibly subdued.

Dai, observing Shun from across the room, couldn't help but notice Shun lying down in an uncomfortable angle. Concerned, he made his way over to Shun.
"Hey, Shun. Get up, we need to go” Dai said, his voice filled with mild worry.
“Go where?” mumbled Shun.
“To brew coffee” replied Dai softly sensing the weariness in Shun’s tone.

Shun looked up, managing in a weak voice, "I have got a headache. I think I need to lie down for a bit."
“hmm maybe you're not getting enough sleep” Dai replied.
“yes I will go lie down for a bit” said Shun getting up.

Dai's eyes reflected his concern as he gently placed a hand on Shun's shoulder. "Do you need any help getting to your room?"

Shun shook his head slowly. "I think I can manage. Thanks, Dai. I just need to rest."

Shun slowly got up and made his way to his room, each step deliberate and careful. Dai watched him go, the worry still evident on his face. Determined to help, he quickly headed to the kitchen to find some headache medicine. He searched through the shelves, his mind racing. Finding the medicine, he poured a glass of water and hurried towards Shun’s room.

Standing outside Shun’s door, Dai knocked gently. "Shun, it’s Dai. I am coming in.”

Inside, Shun was lying on his bed, trying to find a comfortable position that might ease the throbbing in his head. Hearing Dai’s voice, he sat up slowly. "Come in."

Dai entered, the room softly lit with the evening light filtering through the curtains. He handed over the medicine and the glass of water. "Here, take this, I brought you some medicine. It should help with the headache."

Shun took the medicine, touched by Dai's gesture. "Thank you, Dai. Sorry. You didn't have to..."

Dai smiled warmly. "it is alright, Shun. Go ahead and take these for now."

Shun took the medicine and lay back down, the fatigue evident in his eyes. Dai sat on the edge of the bed, his presence providing a comforting and reassuring presence.

As the medicine started to take effect, Shun’s headache began to ease. He closed his eyes, feeling a sense of calm wash over him. Dai’s kindness and attentiveness touched him deeply. The silence in the room was comfortable, filled with unspoken understanding and care.

Shun opened his eyes and gave Dai a grateful look. "I’m feeling better already. Thank you."

Dai smiled, relief washing over his face. "I’m glad. Rest now, I’ll stay here with you for a while."

Shun, feeling safe and cared for, began to drift off to sleep, the weight of the headache lifting slowly. Dai watched over him, his heart swelling with affection. Shun was really adorable! He hoped that this small act of care conveyed some of the depth of his feelings for Shun.

In the quiet moments that followed, Dai reflected on how much Shun meant to him in such a short amount of time, how he has never felt like this with anyone.

As Shun slept peacefully, Dai stayed by his side, his thoughts a mix of concern and admiration. Dai hoped that their time together would continue to bring them closer, building a foundation of trust and love.

Hours passed, and Shun stirred, waking up to find Dai still by his side. He felt rested and more at ease. The room was now bathed in the soft glow of the moonlight.

"Hey," Shun said softly, his voice still groggy from sleep.

"Hey," Dai replied, his smile never wavering. "How are you feeling?"

"Much better," Shun said, sitting up and stretching. "Thanks for staying with me, you didn’t have to."

"Anytime," Dai replied. "You should eat something. It might help too."

Shun nodded, feeling a warmth in his chest at Dai's continued care. They headed back to the kitchen, where Dai prepared a light meal for Shun. They ate together, the atmosphere comfortable and filled with quiet companionship.

As they sat there, Shun realized how much Dai's presence meant to him. It wasn't just about the medicine or the headache; it was about the unwavering presence and care that Dai offered. It was about feeling seen. He hoped this lasted and he could keep Dai.

"Dai," Shun began, his voice soft but sincere. "Thank you for everything. I don’t think I said it enough, but it means a lot to me that you stayed."

Dai reached across the table, hands hover above Shun's. "You don’t have to thank me, Shun. I’m just glad that you feel better now."

They sat in silence for a moment, and smiled at each other.

That night, as they went to bed, Shun felt a sense of contentment. He knew that with time, he may be able to trust Dai and there might be a future for them.

The next morning, Shun woke up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day. He found Dai in the kitchen, helping making breakfast for everyone. Shun walked over and stood in front of Dai, saying nothing; just fidgeting on his feet.

"Good morning," Dai said, turning his head to smile at Shun.

"Good morning," Shun replied, a small smile present. "Thank you for taking care of me yesterday."

"Always," Dai said, giving Shun’s hand a reassuring squeeze.

As the other cast members started to gather for breakfast, Shun and Dai shared a look before joining everyone.
