Chapter Text
Your dad is one of those fancy rich people. Apparently he's friends with one of the royal goetias, so he gets to go to a bunch of fancy parties with a bunch of other rich people like him. Which that also means that you have to go with him.
You've never liked these parties, at all. It's just full of rich assholes! Rich assholes who only care about themselves. The only good part about them is the free food, but other than that, the parties suck ass.
So, here you were, on your way to this stupid party. Your dad says that this is a privilege, and some kids your age wish they could come to a goetia party. You think they only wish that because they think it's some extravagant, fun thing. Well, it isn't. It's way more boring than it sounds.
Once you arrived to the party, you broke away from your dad as he started to talk with the others. You decided to head over to a food table to get some food and punch. Even though you said that the food is the only good part, it's not like the food even is really that good. It's mediocre at best.
Once you grab some food, and begin to turn around to leave, you feel someone tap your shoulder. You turn around fully to look at them, and it's some.. bird girl. She has long dark hair, a beanie, and she looks around your age.
"Can I help you?"
You ask, slightly impatient. You just want to enjoy your food in peace. She looked a little bit scared to continue to talk to you after you said that to her. But she decided to continue on talking anyways.
"Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like you don't want to be here either?"
You blink in surprise. Did you really give off those vibes? I mean, she wasn't wrong.
"Yeah, my dad forced me here."
She smiled slightly and let out a laugh.
"Yeah, I don't want to be here either. My mom says hosts these parties, but it's just filled with rich snobs. Plus, there's usually nobody around my age at these parties."
She looked like she was trying to stop herself from rambling on for too long.
"Look, uh, the reason I'm talking to you is, I wanna see if you want to hang out or something. Or do anything besides just sit here all bored."
You're a bit hesitant, I mean, you've never met this girl before and now she's asking you to hangout? But, having someone to hang out with would be better than being alone at a stupid party.
"Yeah, sure."
She smiles, and starts to walk over to where she usually hangs out at the parties.
"I'm Octavia by the way."
You introduce yourself as well. You guys eat food, and chat for a bit before she asks you something.
"Hey, wanna get out of here?"
You were caught a bit off guard with that question.
"Like, leave the party?"
"Yeah. I know a beautiful spot we can go to. We'd just have to sneak out and be back before anyone realizes."
You look over towards your dad, who seems drunk and very occupied talking to his new friends. You shrug, thinking that doing something new could be fun.
"Yeah, sure, I guess. You lead the way."
She grabs your hand, and pulls you out of the main party room. She seems to be leading you to her room. Once you get there, she opens the window.
"Come on. All the other exits are guarded by my families guard imps."
You look at her in the eyes. You're really about to sneak out through her window to go somewhere. And you just met her today!
She waits for you to react. After you nod, she hops out of the window, and lands in the bushes below. It's not that far of a jump, at least.
You sigh slightly and mumble under your breath.
"This better be worth it."
You hop down, and she unexpectedly catches you. Once she sets you down, she grabs your hand again and starts running.
"Come on! It's this way!"
Struggling to keep up, you hold on to her hand as tight as you can. Her hand is warm, it's kind of nice, especially since the air is getting colder as the sun is starting to set.
For some reason, you think you could trust this girl with your life right now. You've never really trusted anyone this much before, why do you trust this girl you only met a few hours ago?
"We're almost there!"
Once you both arrived, you were on top of a cliff, with a singular bench facing the edge.
"Wow. You can see the entire pentagram from up here."
Octavia smiled.
"I go up here a lot. Mainly to get away from my family. You know, everyone thinks that the goetia family is so perfect and great because we're royal. Being 'royal' doesn't mean shit. My dad cheated on my mom, and now they fight all the time."
She walked over to the bench and sat down.
"They don't even love eachother. They never did! Even at the parties I have to hear how much my mom hates my dad, and how horrible he is.. That's all I ever hear at home."
You go to sit down next to her. You feel terrible, you never really thought the goetias would have any family trouble.
"I'm really sorry about that. But hey, you shouldn't be thinking about that right now. You get some time away from your parents and you're stuck thinking about them? Let's just enjoy ourselves and not be thinking about bad things."
Octavia nodded slightly. Then she scooted closer to you, and pointed to a star that was faint in the sky.
"Stars are coming out. The stars from up here are absolutely beautiful."
You followed where her finger was pointing, and there it was. The first star of the night. You would never expect hell to be pretty, but it really can be. Well, if you ignore all of the fucked up shit going on below in the city, then it can be nice.
Suddenly, Octavia laughed.
"It's crazy how focused those snobs at the party are. There's no way they've realized we're gone yet."
You laughed too.
"Yeah, I bet my dad would get so drunk he'd put a pillow in his car and think it was me."
Octavia laughed even more and put her head on your shoulder. You tried as hard as you could to not move, so you didn't disturb her.
"Hey, do you ever wonder what it would be like if you lived in heaven instead? Like, if you were born in heaven."
You asked her. You've always thought about that, and honestly you wish you were in heaven.
"No. But if I was in heaven maybe I'd have a better life. Parents who don't hate each other, and it would be an overall better experience walking through the streets.."
She paused for a second.
"Do they still have metal music in heaven? Or is that just a hell thing? Because I'd like to keep the music.
You laughed.
"Well, if there wasn't metal music you could make your own. You could even make your own music here. I bet you'd be good at it."
"If I made metal music in heaven I think I'd scare all the angels away. I'm not sure if heaven is ready to handle that sort of music yet."
Then she thought about the last thing you said.
"I've been thinking about making music. I really want to, it's just I can't get any instruments. My mom says they would be too loud and annoying."
You don't respond for a second. You're not really sure how to respond.
"Well, you'll get instruments some day."
She smiled.
"Yeah. Someday."
