Chapter Text
Let it not be said that my life was one of mere lawlessness. No, it is one of unyielding pursuit of that which all souls yearn for - freedom. A freedom purchased dearly with the coin of daring and the resolve of my soul. I find that freedom here, on this deck, under darkened skies and over deepening blues. Here, I live bound only by the chains I elect to accept, and break those I do not. Away from the choking confines of land and law, a person may truly wield their fate like a blade, sharp and shining.
Long have I commanded the Threadweaver, through tempests fierce and doldrums silent. And though our sails have swelled with the winds of fortune, it is the iron will of my hand upon the wheel that has carved our path. These pages shall bear witness to the truths of this life - the cruel splendour of our world, where the horizon forever beckons and the depths hold secrets darker than the night above.
There are secrets I hold too, shadows of a life once lived on land. The sea offers solace, but it can never fully wash away the stains of my past. I recall the faces of those I wronged, their eyes haunted by betrayal. The companion I maimed in a moment of reckless abandon, the life I took in self-preservation, and worst of all, the girl whose sight I stole in our desperate clash. These memories are chains that refuse to break, no matter how far I sail. As I set down these initial words, the harsh sun begins to crest the edge of the world, painting the sky with hues of fire and driving us back below decks. It reminds me, as does every rising sun, of the fires in our hearts. Some tempered, others raging, all seeking something more.
Thus, I begin.
