Work Text:
“No, definitely no comms before Caf!”
“No, not now, need my cuppa first!”
“Caf first, only then can we talk.”
“Absolutely not! I cannot agree to anything before my Caf!”
“Don’t even bother! I just want my Caf first.”
“How dare you! Nothing, absolutely nothing comes between me and my cup of Caf!”
Yeah, Cody had it bad. Really bad.
Getting the man to do anything in the early morning hours before his Caf was absolutely impossible. Not even a small battalion of clankers could deter Cody of not getting his brew.
The enemy could wait, Caf could not!
And anyone who was anybody knew well enough to not to even try to bother the great Commander if he had not had at least one cup, preferably two when the day started.
As Hell certainly hath no fury like a Marshal Commander of the GAR left without his Caf!
And so , those closest to Cody all those working with him as well his closest friends always heeded this very fact. Their mantra of sorts. ‘Do not bother the Commander before his very first cup of Caf!’
Alas there was always someone who wasn’t up to par with the more, well, unofficial protocols of the GAR.
A new Sergeant who happened to have been assigned on Commander Cody’s and the Sergeant’s own team’s first mission together. The most important one as it was, first impressions and all that.
Eager enough to arrive early, the Sergeant was knocking on the door of Cody’s quarters.
Unfortunately, Cody had had a slightly difficult night, tossing and turning and not able to sleep and so being late for the day. Having finally managed to get to sleep, only to be aroused from it mid snore.
But most importantly, late for his shower, shave and especially. his Caf.
Getting woken up mid sleep was certainly never pleasant. But now in addition for being late to wake up, his alarm having gone off but ignored completely, Cody had to actually speak to someone, and before his first cup!
“Waddaya want???”
Cody was standing at the door looking rather dishevelled and annoyed too while staring at the younger clone daring to disturb him.
“Um… Sorry to wake ya up Commander. But me and the boys are ready and waiting in the Havoc Marauder. Have been so for a while…”
Cody could only stare at the man trying to recall the name of him, but also realising Cody himself really was late for it all!
“Hunter, right?”
“Yes, Sir!”
Cody realising whom he was talking to despite his cognitive thoughts not really up and running without the Caf. This was the special ops team leader and guess they weren’t aware of Cody’s routines.
Oh hell!
But Cody could not really blame them now could he.
“Give me a few and I’ll be right there.”
“We’ll be waiting for ya, Commander!”
Hunter saluted Cody and left.
Cody closed the door and sighed heavily. Guess there was always a first and this time he would simply have to choose between his morning ablutions and his precious Caf. Tough choices, true. But this, was war! Everyone eventually lost something precious in one1

“Figure out what Commander Cody’s morning routine is.” Hunter gave the order to Tech.
The Sergeant trusting his teammate could pull up the much needed intel. Hunter working on a hitch after having seen the rather distraught Commander at the door. Clearly, his routines having been messed up for whatever reason.
Alas Hunter, did not want to end up on Commander Cody’s bad side either. So, figuring out something was the plan.
“On it Sarge!”

Cody arrived to the hangar in no time.
Still seemingly off and perhaps a tad tired looking too. But they had a job to do. And Cody could not really blame the Bad Batch for his own tardiness for over sleeping. Nor having his morning Caf.
Just as Cosy was stepping into the Marauder, a very strong yet familiar smell greeted him.
“Is that…???”
“Yes Commander. Coruscant Brew. A special order.”
Hunter had a steaming hot mug already in his hand, offering it to the Commander, who looked baffled, confused and slightly less annoyed.
“How did you… know that…”
Cody did not finish the sentence, simply inhaling the heavenly smell of the dark brew.
“We have a few connections and figured you could use it.” Hunter smirked at the Commander.
Cody could not help but smile too. A most pleasant surprise for sure.
“Well, if you’re field work is anything like getting this, this Caf, we’ll get along famously!”
Cody sipped his Caf feeling really good. Taking a seat as the Marauder took off for their mission.
Indeed, Cody felt great about this new team. And the Caf, was heavenly.
