Chap 1: Promise
"Keep running, don't look back!"
In the darkness of the forest, a girl in dress yells to her other sisters as she hugs the youngest one. Behind them, a large column of smoke can be seen.
Their village is attacked by a group of hunters. An hour ago, they came into the village and started to terrorize everyone. They rob, kill, kidnap the villagers, and burn the village. Cahaya and her siblings luckily ran away to the forest, but the hunters found and started to run after them.
The village keeps burning, and the fire becomes bigger while the screaming voices of villagers can no longer be heard. Instead, the siblings can hear the rushing footsteps coming closer and closer. They ran as fast as they could until one of them tripped and fell off right before the hunters arrived.
"ANGIN"
"JUST KEEP RUNNING I'LL BE FINE"
Petir bit her lip as she continued to rush to her other sisters.
Unfortunately, they got separated and lost.
Now, there's only Tannah and Cahaya, and the hunters behind. Cahaya panicked, and she tried to find a way for them to escape, but before she could think, Tannah put her into the cave nearby.
"Cahaya, you stay here, don't make any sound. I'll try to distract them."
"BUT-"
"Do you believe me?"
"I do but-"
"No but's. I promise we will survive and we will meet again, you, me, and our sisters. I promise."
Tannah said to Cahaya softly as she landed a kiss on her sister's forehead.
Cahaya's teary eyes stick on Tannah as her sister runs in another direction. Just a few minutes later, the hunters found Tannah and chased after her.
Cahaya can't do anything but shrink deeper into the cave, trying her best not to cry out loud.
She stays there for hours. She can feel the fire weaken and when the forest becomes quieter.
She falls asleep.
