Work Text:
I was helping a friendly young women checkout when the force of an explosion flung us both to the furthest wall in the gasstation. When I came too, my world was on mute as it was engulfed in flames. I was lucky enough not to get trapped under rubble, but I couldn't say the same for the poor lady next to me. She was still unconcious. I forced myself to get up and move towards her, sidestepping the debris and fires. I took off my button up and ripped it in half. with one half wrapped around each of my hands, I pick up the flaming beam on her legs. I throw it out of the way and go to her. I check her pulse and she’s still alive. I quickly examine my surroundings, trying to find an exit. The windows and doors that lead outside are blocked. The bathroom though it still relatively untouched by the flames. I carefully pick the young women up and tread to the bathroom, grabbing an untouched package of a blanket as well. I open the bathroom door, burning my hand as I do so. I ignore the pain and step inside quickly as to not let the smoke come in. I lay the women gently on the ground as I rip open the package. I go to the sink and drench the blanket with the water from the tap. Putting the blanket at the gap between the door and floor, that’s when I hear a moan from the otherside of the door. Fuck. I open the door and close it behind me, searching for the person. I come across 2 childran and a teen splayed across the beverage isle. The fire is still raging when I hear a creak above me. Shit, the roof is about to come down, I need to get them to the bathroom. I carefully pick the two children in a firemans carry and quikly bring them to the bathroom and lay them down. I look up and see the young woman is awake. “There was and explosion, watch over these two as I get the last one, do not leave this room.” I say quikly and leave the bathroom to grab the other one. I made it to him just before the roof collapses, I grab him and move to the wall, shielding the young man from the collapsing roof. I let out a scream as some of the roof hits my back, I keep my stance as to not suffocate the man. I still hear the fire raging as i’m struggling to keep the weight from collapsing on the both of us. I look down and see the young man stirring. “Whatever you do, don’t move. There was an explosion, the roof collapsed on us as I was trying to get you to safety. Your two friends are safe.” I struggle out, voice hoarse from the smoke. He nods, understanding the situation at hand. I see him look around. “I’m going to reach for that metal beam on the right, and prop it up next to your head to relieve some of the weight.” His voice scratchy from the smoke and debris. “Alright, but be careful.” I strain out. He slowly reaches out with his hand and grabs a metal pole. He gets it into position carefully. “On the count of three lift the debris as musch as you can.” The teen says. “One. Two. Three!” I strain to push the debris up with my back, screaming out as I do so. “Slowly come down.” The boy said. I do as he asks and it works. I no longer have to support the debris with my back. “Thank you.” I huff out as I collapse onto him. “I should be thanking you, you saved me and my siblings.” The teen says as he embraces me in a hug. “I don’t know how long we’ll be here, but lets hope its not too long.” I whisper.
“Yeah, what’s your name?”
“Oh, how rude of me to forget my manners! I’m Atticus Scott.” I say as he giggles.
“My name is Killian Bishop, nice to meet you Atticus.”
“Nice to meet you too Killian.”
Neither of us spoke for a while, just listening to the havoc ensuing around us.
“Just out of curiosity, how old are you?” Killian asks softly.
“I’m 23, you?”
“19.”
“Fresh out of highschool then?”
“No, I started school late, I’m a senior at Phesea High.”
“Do you know my sister Aleena Scott?”
“I know of her, yes. Wait, your the Atticus Scott? As in the prodigy volleyball player that disappeared?”
“Heh, yeah, yours truly.”
He pets my head, It was soothing.
“Hey, I’m sure you have your reasons.”
“Hey I-”
I was cut off by loud sirens and water gushing. We both tense up as the debris creaks above us. I lift my self back up, supporting the debris just in time as the metal beam bends and claters to the ground. I scream out in agony and determination. I will not let us die here, I will make sure of it.
The water stops and there’s shouting on the other side.
“HEY, CAN YOU HEAR ME? ARE YOU UNDER THE RUBBLE?” a strong voice calls out.
“YES! THERE ARE TWO OF US, THE OTHER PERSON IS CURRENTLY SUPPORTING THE DEBRIS SO IT DOESN’T FALL ON US!” Killian shouts back.
“JUST HANG IN THERE!”
“Your doing great Atticus, don’t give up now, help is right here.” He whispers sweet nothings into my ear. Even if they didn’t mean anything, it still gave me the strength to push further.
Slowly but surely the people on the outside started relieving the pressure, it got easier to keep the big piece from squashing us. I don’t know how long we were trapped under there, but we were eventually rescued from our prison.
As soon as the first responders relieved the debris from Atticuss’s back he passed out on top of Killian. They, and the other three in the bathroom, were rushed to the hospital.

The head doctor, Dr. Finn Thomas, decided it was best to put the victims of the explosion in the same room. Families were called and were waiting for they’re loved ones to wake up, from their medical induced slumber, by their bedsides, when Aleena spoke up.
“Hey, I’m going to go get some food from the cafe across the street. Anyone want anything?” She announced to the room. There were soft agreements around the room.
“Alright, my name is Aleena Scott. When I point to you your going to introduce yourself, who your here for, and give me your order.” She had said with confidence.
She first pointed to a man near the front of the room. His name is John Mitchell and he’s here with his daughter Quinn. Ophelia and Yvonne Bishop with their children/siblings Killian, Emlyn and Eugene. Freya and Rowan Scott with their son Atticus, and Darren Frazer with his best friend Atticus.
The tenseness in the air loosened to a comfortable setting after introductions.
“Alright, I’m going to be back.” Aleena says, satisfied.
“I’ll go with you.” Yvonne says standing up.
“Alright.” Aleena smiles.
They make their way out of the hospital and to the Cafe across the street.
“Your brother is the prodigy volleyball play that disappeared correct?” Yvonne asks as they cross the street.
“Yeah he is, why do you ask?”
“I was just curious, my younger brother, Killian, went to almost all of his games. He was so heart broken when it was announced that he retired.”
Aleena hums in acknowledgement.
